I hate constantly asking you guys for help, but in SQL Server procedures, how can I store the resultant two-column dataset from a query in a variable so I can do something with that small subset of the data?
or should I ask this over at SO?

@ThomasWard in a temporary table. Or a table variable

A: What's the difference between a temp table and table variable in SQL Server?

Martin SmithContents Caveat This answer discusses "classic" table variables introduced in SQL Server 2000. SQL Server 2014 in memory OLTP introduces Memory-Optimized Table Types. Table variable instances of those are different in many respects to the ones discussed below! (more details). Storage Locati...

Q: When should I use a table variable vs temporary table in sql server?

ymanI'm learning more details in table variable. It says that temp tables are always on disk, and table variables are in memory, that is to say, the performance of table variable is better than temp table because table variable uses less IO operations than temp table. But sometimes, if there are too...

Both answers by Martin Smith explain many details - which you may not need at the moment.

indeed.
@ypercubeᵀᴹ thank you once again for assistance :)
@ypercubeᵀᴹ you are one of the most helpful people I've met when it comes to SQL Server, so far :)
you deserve a medal.

6:10 PM
@ThomasWard I don't know about medals. I'm into hats now ;)

:P
You deserve a hat with a medal on it.

BAM!

6:55 PM
@TypoCubeᵀᴹ the annual name change is in effect apparently

A: But it is summer!

TypoCubeᵀᴹI suggest the name to be changed to Christmas-Hats for next year. We can keep the WinterBash as a second name and in the tags. (and chsristmas-hats as synonym).

and I didn't avoid the typo!

@TypoCubeᵀᴹ I was expecting the "other beliefs" comment somehow before I even clicked the link
It's becoming more and more difficult to not offend anyone

7:58 PM
@TomV I find that remark insensitive, and offensive
😀

@PaulWhite If it weren't for that smiley I might have felt insecure by your comment

That's the world we live in, apparently

Unrelated, a broken toe is much more painful than I expected

Not as painful as living in a repressed region like the Southern Hemisphere :) How did you break your toe for goodness' sake?
I'll be impressed if you managed it with SQL

@PaulWhite Well it did have something to do with a table
4
In a really dumb way just half-tripped over the cat and hit it against the living-room table
it's now JOINed to the toe next to it with some tape :)

Would you say your VIEW of the table was obstructed at the time?
Or of the cat perhaps
Also: is it a left or right join?

8:44 PM
@PaulWhite I'd call it a semi-join perhaps
I suppose it means I'll be home with more time for hats :)

8:57 PM
@TomV Yeah, it didn't take them long.
@Ghanima so you are saying that some people don't mind if they celebrate Hats which just "happen" to be the same time as Christmas and (some countries') New Year season but they would be offended if the Hats celebration name was making the relation obvious? Because the choice of 19-Dec to Jan-3 is not coincidence, I assure you. — TypoCubeᵀᴹ 4 mins ago

@TypoCubeᵀᴹ I can't figure out a term that would fit the entire world, Seasonal, Christmas, December
Even the hats could be considered offensive some place I am sure

Less than 3 hours by the way

From now on we can call them The-Day-Tom-Broke-His-Toe-Celebration hats and hope no one is offended

9:14 PM
@TomV definition of dash: merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dash
> to break by striking or knocking
and bash:
> to strike violently : hit; also : to injure or damage by striking : smash —often used with in

The obvious solution is to have two Winter Bashes/Dashes per year

@PaulWhite Brilliant
@TypoCubeᵀᴹ 's anser is now -1 :)

A: But it is summer!

Tom VCan we have 2 winter bashes then? One for each hemisphere so we could limit participants based on where they are visiting from.

Downvotes incoming I expect

I AM BACK
