I've heard varying things regarding the pronunciation of the letter 's' in Spain. However, no one was willing/able to explain this to me.
How is the letter 's' pronounced in Spain compared to its usage in, say, Mexico?
A good analogy is that the difference is like those in British and American English, but what are those differences exactly? Is Spanish in Latin America a branch from that in Spain?
for example, I live in Madrid, Spain, and I think my answers would be more useful if the person is interested in castillian, not mexican, that sounds quite strange to me (and i to them)
@Richard can you elaborate on "thumbed his nose at them"? Maybe an example or something. I get the meaning, but a full context would help with the translation.
