Just earlier I was about to mention to somebody in Spanish that I was in a Stack Exchange chat room and I realized I didn't know how to say it in Spanish. There's a bunch of words for "room": cuarto habitación sala salón There's also at least a couple of words for "chat": charlar platicar ...

In German you have to use modus, in English tempus for verbs, to mark indirect speech. There seem to be no detailed rules for Spanish when I look it up on Wikipedia. So are there any common/non-mandatory rules/ways how to mark indirect speech? Or can I use any modus/tempus in a He said that....
