@PaulWhite Can somebody explain why SQL always has to have weird syntax for everything? Why couldn't it just be three parameters: (fromPosition, string, characters)
? And just to confuse you, they've updated RTRIM
and LTRIM
to exactly that: LTRIM ( character_expression , [ characters ] )
, so it's in the other order to keep you on your toes.
Why is AT TIME ZONE
like that, why not just an ATTIMEZONE
function? Why is OFFSET FETCH
so verbose, and why IS DISTINCT FROM
? Why, why why? I've never seen another language with such a penchant for wordiness, even VB isn't as bad
If AS
is optional, why does it exist? Or the first FROM
in UPDATE
and DELETE
, and the INTO
of INSERT
and MERGE
?
What is the *
in COUNT(*)
doing to improve your life, why can't you just COUNT()
? Why does CAST
have an AS datatype
parameter, but CONVERT
puts that at the beginning? Why are there even two different functions?
What can you COMMIT
apart from a TRANSACTION
? (and yes I know about WORK
which is the same thing)
Sorry rant over. It just really bugs me, and I wish someone would sweep away the whole thing and give us a proper modern database language.
