@PaulWhite How do you differentiate between chips (BE: crisps) and chips (BE: chips) then?

@JohnK.N. fries

I mean you do have Fish 'n' Chips in N.Z.

Yeah that's true

Or you did the last time I was there.

I guess context is important

8:30 AM
hahah

Where it could be ambiguous, people say fries
very rarely does anyone get fish and crisps

A chairde - Morning all!
Re. Scottish cuisine - deep fried haggis is kinda cool - real après-pub stuff! I just couldn't stomach the idea of a deep-fried Mars bar dessert though... (barf...)!

3:48 PM
I claim no part of my people's cuisine which is disgusting and an offshoot of eating not to starve

@bbaird Irish cuisine (probably for the same reason - the filthy Sassanach) isn't great either, but we do have a few tasty items!

A: Correct way to get metrics from DMVs

ik_zelfYou could take a look on zabbix for monitoring in general and zbxdb, a plug-in for zabbix specifically for rdbms monitoring.

And it's not even that good of an answer
Like, whatever guy, you got your clicks have some downvotes

@bbaird - all the answer does is point to his own tool! 8====D! Forgive the pun...

@HannahVernon Regarding your comment on this one, while what you said is fair, the way that is enforced is disproportionate sometimes and troublesome. Your point is the question OP asked is not appropriate, yet OP was only downvoted once and the question remains open and someone with a fair answer (though I don't agree with the means of how it was answered)...
...was downvoted 7 times. While I understand voting is subjective, when utilized this way, it is destructive not constructive to this website and it's objectives. If someone asked for the best way to anonymize execution plans, and Aaron Bertrand himself recommended SentryOne Plan Explorer, the outcome would certainly be different.
Please don't take this the wrong way, as I don't disagree with your point, but want to make clear its evident sometimes the way things are handled on this site, e.g. downvote first, provide constructive help second, is not conducive to the goals of the site, and understandably frustrating to those who are just voluntarily contributing.
Also just generally throwing my thoughts out there on this, for all mods, such that perhaps you can consider a better checks and balances implementation for the future. Take from it what you wish.

10:23 PM
Oh, @J.D. - it's a spam answer - it's lucky I didn't just delete it. The question is specifically about DMV's, not "how do I monitor my SQL Server instance."
Also, if @AaronBertrand had posted an answer promoting a product from his client Sentry One, it would be subject to the same scrutiny.

10:37 PM
Again I'm not saying I agree with the means of the answer, but we both know while Aaron Bertrand would be open to the same scrutiny, the outcome wouldn't be the same. Yes perhaps it should've been deleted as opposed to being downvoted disproportionately to the question OP asked, and perhaps OP's answer should also be closed, especially if you're hinting at it being a shopping list question. Either way, I stand by my point that the way the voting system is used sometimes is not conducive...
...to improving the quality of the site overall, rather it detracts from it. And numerous times has been used in a discouraging manner to even non-spam answers. It goes both ways too, there's answer I've given that I'm surprised were so heavily upvoted, and honestly don't get it.
Again I'm not trying to debate you on what you said, I don't disagree and this isn't directed at you specifically, rather just openly ranting on my thoughts on the voting system as it stands currently.

11:17 PM
In that case I would encourage you to seek the opinions of those on meta.stackechange.com 😉

👍 cool, I'm getting better, at least this wasn't a comment rant. 😉

And just FYI, if the answer is self-deleted, they'd get back all the lost rep. In light of that, perhaps the link from our site to tbeirs is worth more than the 70 lost unicorn points.
