Quite a good blog on MySQL, written by one of its [ex] developers blog.sesse.net/blog/tech/2021-12-05-16-41_leaving_mysql.html

@Philᵀᴹ awesome
chuckled at
> Don't believe for a second that MariaDB is any better. Monty and his merry men left because they were unhappy about the new governance, not because they suddenly woke up one day and realized what a royal mess they had created in the code.

There are people at our shop who believe MariaDB is better than MySQL, because it performs better.

A chairde - Morning all!
@Philᵀᴹ Wow - I just hope he never has to look for his old job back! Though with this c.v., I doubt if he'll have trouble finding a place to work! It's kinda nice to see what I've thought for a while being confirmed by an "insider". When I first came to dba.se, most of my work was with MySQL - I've gradually moved over to PostgreSQL and I see it as vastly superior in many ways. Of course, it's not perfect (Oracle is!:- ) ), but I really like the "feel" of PG.

Yeah, I feel the same. PG is great. I use Oracle a little in my day job these days, but I can't see it ever being a full time thing again. Which is s shame, as it's a great RDBMS

@Philᵀᴹ Oracle is, IMNSHO, the best commercial RDBMS - but it's a bit of a kitchen sink - I kinda like the "bare-bones" nature of PostgreSQL - and there are the contrib extensions. I would like to see (either native or contrib) a proper temporal and bi-temporal table implementation (and VIRTUAL generated fields). I suppose we could be here till the cows come home with what feature(s) we'd like to see implemented...
I know there are 3rd party ones, but I'd like the "reassurance" of it in the main tree (or at least as contrib...)

@ypercubeᵀᴹ Well, here, I thought great, but then I had a look here - looks anything but cast-iron to me!

5:08 PM
@Vérace-getVACCINATEDNOW not sure what you mean. It is being developed, you can see there was a patch in August.

@ypercubeᵀᴹ Yes, but the guy who wrote it (AFAICS) says there's still lots to do and that he's not going to take it further... Not exactly sure. And it only appears to be system-versioned tables...

yes, there are still lots to do.
thread-2 is related to your links
