@Taryn What hardware problems are you having?

@dezso yes, but thinking in terms of "service" maybe the question could be similar to: how can I force a service to close before shut down the OS?

@dezso There are subtle differences in stopping SQL Server explicity vs stopping via Windows shutting down
Normal service stop
> The SQL Server Network Interface library successfully deregistered the Service Principal Name (SPN) [ MSSQLSvc/BLAH.BLAH.com:BLAH ] for the SQL Server service.
Stop via OS shutdown
> The SQL Server Network Interface library could not deregister the Service Principal Name (SPN) [ MSSQLSvc/BLAH.BLAH.com:BLAH ] for the SQL Server service.
Error: 0x6d3, state: 4.
Administrator should deregister this SPN manually to avoid client authentication errors.
Dunno how much this matters, or what else differs

Q: Server sizing for Database

edmoncuaftI have been looking for an online calculator that will provide me the hardware needed if i need X-amount of transactions/sec for my database server. Is there such an online calculator? If so, can you provide me with one? The databases I am interested in are MariaDB and PostgreSQL running under L...

Have you updated all firmware and reseated all components?

Yup, went through all that. We have open tickets with Dell and Micron to determine issue and fix

@Taryn We had the same problem with Broadwell CPUs in a Dell R530.
A slightly older server with Haswell CPUs in a Dell R730 was fine.
We swapped CPUs for Haswells.
No problems so far.
Wonder if you're hitting the same bug?
There are others out there with the same problem.
Dell and Intel are clueless to fix it.

We had a similar problem with a R740

We're hoping to get a bit more resolved today.

And to be clear, this has nothing to do with the Microcode update reboot problem from a while back.
@Taryn Which model CPUs are you on?

These are brand new R640's. Trying to find the spec sheet from our order

@Taryn Skylake architecture, which followed Broadwell.
Hope you find a solution soon!

@Colin'tHart I feel good on Haswell v3 :D

Hello everybody
I was trying to convert datetime to varchar in mysql and I was following this
45
A: Convert DateTime Value into String in Mysql

ChordsThis is super old, but I figured I'd add my 2c. DATE_FORMAT does indeed return a string, but I was looking for the CAST function, in the situation that I already had a datetime string in the database and needed to pattern match against it: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/cast-functions.ht...

but when I retrieve in java, it shows still timeStamp instead of String
any idea?

@SpringLearner You probably shouldn't

@SpringLearner that might come from your JDBC driver, too

This needs just one vote if we want it brought over here:

Q: VARCHAR memory buffer appears to be breaking in ChineseTaiwan Collation. - SQL Server

minchul.kangIt is difficult for me to write something in English. I hope you understand. I used a translator and reviewed it. I created two temporary databases. The collations are 'Korea_Wansung_CI_AS' and 'Chinese_Taiwan_Stroke_CI_AS' respectively. I created a temporary table with a column of type VARCHAR...

Q: Make "log" a synonym of "transaction-log"

Michael GreenI propose making the tag "log" a synonym of "transaction-log". Looking at existing questions, most that use [log] have the meaning of [transaction-log]. For those questions about a time-ordered, human-readable archive of activity there is the tag [logging].

@TomV Thanks for replying but are there any reasons ?
@dezso In MSQL server, I did CONVERT(VARCHAR(23),C.createDate,121) AS createDate, and in java , I can see String but for mysql I was having proble

@SpringLearner have a look here: stackoverflow.com/questions/3323618/…
Why convert to strings when there are proper datatypes to handle datetime values?
