Upvoted a mongo question. Feeling dirty.
@dezso is there a difference between regclass and oid of a table? Regarding your comment here:
The --oids flag does something different, it is related to the (discouraged) usage of oid columns. — dezso 55 mins ago

yes i want to modify SSMS behavior, and i don't have access to all users machines — mehdy 13 mins ago
No luck I suppose then.

@ypercubeᵀᴹ in theory yes, in the recent versions in practice no
but those OIDs are the ones in CREATE TABLE ... WITH OIDS, not the ones in pg_class

@dezso ah yes, right!
Somewhat interesting question though, what types of backup/restore would keep the regclass ids intact.
pg_dump no, pg_basebackup yes I suppose.
logical replication ?

the latter I have no clue
I'd guess no, but never tried it

My guess would be no as it is "logical" after all.
You can replicate only parts of a cluster (dbs, tables, etc).

@ypercubeᵀᴹ yes, decoding the stream to get the logical statements, basically

and from multiple sources I think as well.

Imagine an earth quick happens and my coworkers can't log of their Management Studios, And some bad people like zambies, attack my office, and use their logged in sessions to steal data. so i have to kill idle sessions automatically, and force users to login again. — mehdy 14 mins ago
some people have lot of spare time
If both zombies and earth quick (sic) hit me, the least of my worries would be data loss.

Has there ever been a reasonable post where the pronoun "I" has been written in lower case?

1:10 PM
@PaulWhite ha, hadn't noticed! 3 I, 2 i in the post.
... and many more in comments.

Q: Management Studio saves user credentials

mehdyI kill user sessions, in activity monitor, but still users who was logged in by Management Studio, after click new query, they have new session! I want to kill sleep sessions periodically during a day, but Management Studio saves their credentials, how can I do it?

@ypercubeᵀᴹ 1 vote short of being migrated here
As usual someone on SO commented that the question belongs on dba so the user copy and pasted.
Correcting "zambies" marks a new low in my moderation career.

SO has much more questions from users not completely educated about the way the network works. Can you seriously expect SO veteran users suggesting a question be migrated to waste their precious seconds on informing the poor OP of all the fine points regarding the process?

Searching for "zombies" shows zombie queries, zombie databases, zombie processes, zombie connections, zombie indexes.
Zombie people are a first
Edit document for proper handling of SSMS sessions.
- kill sessions
- change credentials
- kill sessions again (wait, they're zombies, they can't die, they are already dead)
- restart with ZAP (Zombie Attack Protocol)

@AndriyM I can when it's a high-rep dba user (marc_s)
How sweet was that message relocation!
I think a RO should be able to it as well. Move to trash, edit message.
Never occurred to me to try it before

@PaulWhite but relocate? I mean up and down. I haven't seen any option for that.

@ypercubeᵀᴹ Yeah just a normal move to trash. Message removed, replaced by later "message moved to Trash" message which can be edited. Net effect: relocation.

@PaulWhite wouldn't that change the user attached to the comment if it was done by someone else and not you?

@ypercubeᵀᴹ Yes but I just moved my own message
Try it with your voodoo message above if you want to

powershell is the worst

live blogging is worse

Live blogging?
Live blogging?
Live blogging?
Sorry but what's the point or use of live blogging?

New Post: Live Blogging: Erik vs. PowerShell https://www.brentozar.com/archive/2017/07/live-blogging-erik-vs-powershell
@AndriyM Don't know. I just saw the tweet.

3:30 PM
@PaulWhite there is an i in that post. Admittedly, only in screen copies of chat.

So there is!

slack mode: disables shift and punctuation keys

@PaulWhite Thanks, at least I can now try to wrap my head around it.
And I now understand the reference too, of course

@sp_BlitzErik That's an enjoyable read.
I love things that are completely counter-intuitive and make you feel dumb when you can't make them work immediately like everyone says you can.
I was left wondering why you had to use the -Force at the end though

Indeed. His name isn't even Luke

3:44 PM
I can't even comprehend how bad the emoji movie must be

3:58 PM
@AndriyM entertainment!
@PaulWhite it's there to overwrite an existing file. I think. Maybe.
@PaulWhite I'll live blog it for you and @AndriyM

ack

4:21 PM
@sp_BlitzErik I feel honoured
No, I feel singled out
To be the only person mentioned alongside Paul White, for whatever reason

I'm surprised that trigger question got answered with no mention of all of the issues in the code

Didn't read the code.

lucky you
did I miss the live blogging?

4:48 PM
@JoeObbish which one? I can live blog brunch with my kid if you're interested.

@JoeObbish I think we all did. The transcript is very entertaining reading though
On the trigger question: I only saw it because I was processing a flag. The answer was obvious and I didn't even bother to read what the trigger code was doing. Please feel free to cover that in a separate answer. Or direct them to Code Review SE maybe.

if I had to watch the emoji movie I would question my life choices

One of the few sites that allows cross posting

interesting, I didn't think that you answered many obvious questions
wasn't sure what the right protocol was
could fit in a comment

Not often no. But I felt obliged on that one for whatever reason
You're welcome to edit it into my answer if that's more convenient

4:57 PM
ok, I will probably do that
thanks
I put too much milk in my oatmeal :(

Edits are encouraged

We don't seem to do it much in answers as a community, for whatever reasons

That's people for you
Tbf the system could probably do more to encourage it but maybe it's too late to change it fundamentally enough now
If nothing else, people expect to be rewarded for their contributions

Should just be another badge

I wonder if Erik is really going to see that movie or if that was just for comedy value
Oh I thought you'd left

5:10 PM
yeah that makes sense
and who has the courage to edit a Paul White answer?

The movie starts at 2:15 (about an hour)

It's all in the mind

@sp_BlitzErik Don't you mean "film"?

We have roll back

I am currently out to lunch with the dauphine

5:12 PM
I should ask Erik to do a stupid edit to one of my answers so I can get the rollback badge

I can't wait to hear what you make of it

Is it a film for small children?

@JoeObbish link one
@PaulWhite she's 4, and she lives with me, so she's probably ready for cgi poop 💩

arguably it's not a film for anyone

5:15 PM
@sp_BlitzErik Ah that's different then. And quite cute

Check out this guy with the feelings

Someone gave us an emoji version of Pride and Prejudice recently

I felt nothing
too early for feelings

I'm going to live blog in emoji next

That's so modern

5:21 PM
and so ancient!

Ok that's me for a while. Have fun all
