Am I overdoing it? Is this better or worse?

@balpha Nice. I like it.
Now if you can change the background to something more board-like...
Though I think we should not try to create a completely realistic picture but a symbolic picture, so a mixture of both would probably be best
As for the stones, I think they're already there with this latest chang

Ah you're right, thanks :)
So, as for the board, maybe change the background color
to something more wood-like
or possibly, if that's not too difficult, add a slightly wooden texture, not too much though, it should still look symbolic
yeah, I think I'd rather keep a solid background color to avoid distracting

Great, perfect :)

@balpha Also loving the coordinates :) Will make discussion much easier.
Is there an SE-Employee-of-the-Month award we can nominate you for or anything?

You mean for wasting time with polishing a fun side project? :)

We're an extremely niche site, and so far we've had more dev work put into us than anyone except, like, math.
That's awesome
Do you play Go, out of curiosity?
I played a little bit with a couple of guys in college, but never to a noteworthy point
hardly ever on anything but 9x9

Well, if you ever want to get back into it, you know where to go ;)

diagrams look pretty broken now
strange board color and no stones displayed
at least in Firefox. In Opera it stopped working at all.
@balpha
looks good to me in FF, but Opera is indeed broken
@CodeInChaos Opera is fixed; I couldn't reproduce in FF, but might have been the same issue -- can you confirm it's okay again?
20:58
the board and the labels show up in FF. The stones don't.
cleared the cache
what OS?
what question precisely are you looking at?
hmm it works now
everything looks good to me in FF both on win7 and Fedora 15
21:02
ah no I mixed up browsers. It works in opera, not FF
FF version?

update didn't help
any javascript errors?
21:08
only css warnings.
disabling all extensions didn't help either
can you post a screenshot of the question in go.stackexchange.com/questions/192/…?
that other question looks pretty much the same
chromium is even buggier. There the correct image shows up for a fraction of a second, and then the background (the outer, lighter brown) hides it.
but that might be because it's likely not a stable version of chromium
very weird
I can't reproduce any of that
anyone?
Chromium 17.0.938.0 (Developer Build 109835 Windows)
The old version, without the fancy stones worked
21:30
Chrome 15 works fine
guess it's just my system being strange today
22:31
works fine for me, too
23:03
works fine for me. it's beautiful actually. i spent ages trying to tell people to join the area51 proposal... so glad it's finally happened. nice to see yall.

Q: What is the practical difference between Mini Chinese and Mini Mini Chinese?

mafutrctThe mini mini Chinese fuseki is similar as the regular Mini Chinese except the extension is slightly closer to the corner. Both the regular and the more tight version are common in recent pro games. $$ --------------------------------------- $$ | . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . | $$ | . ....

Does anyone want to explain me how the mini mini chinese fixes the cut?
23:38
I can't reproduce any of CodeInChaos' problems either, @balpha
