@AndyD273 Do you have any advice for how I should phrase this question when posting it?

2 hours later…
4:17 AM
@James Um, documentaries on Viet Cong mantraps would probably be delightful source material.

4:33 AM
...with the added benefit of knowing that the traps are terrifying effective.

@JasonClyde Not really... It could easily go a few different ways depending on how much you want it to disrupt things.
Also, if someone happens to be in the antarctic when it happens, will they be asleep for the many weeks that it takes for the sun to come back up? If so, then they all freeze. Unless maybe it's somewhere after September 21st when it happens.
oooh, that could be interesting, a base set up in Antarctica during southern spring/summer when the sun almost never sets.

2:48 PM
@AndyD273 Oooh, good point!

3:01 PM
In that case it could also be interesting if it also worked the other way, where it's impossible to sleep while the sun is up. Most of the world wouldn't have a problem with that particular part, but if you effectively had insomnia for a week that could also be rough

@Green My goal ins't to murder their characters outright. :D
I mean Ill throw a fireball at them but jeez the Vietcong were hardcore.

3:17 PM
@James was it you that had the one about the button that kept resetting the countdown timer in the room?

@AndyD273 no...but I feel like every time you hit the button you should get hit by a poison cloud...

@James IIRC the group enters a big white room with no corners or any decoration. On the far side is a doorway that is sealed to all magic or force. Above it are a bunch of numbers from 1 to 60. In the middle of the room is a pedestal with a big red button on it.
They try all kinds of things to get the door open, finally they decide to push the button. The numbers above the door light up, and then flicker out as they count down. Someone pushes the button again, and it resets and starts counting down again.
When it gets below 30 the numbers turn orange. when it gets to 15 they turn red. At 10 the lights go out. At 5 a siren starts. After many many resets they eventually let it run out, and the lights turn back on, the siren stops, and the door is open. Nothing else happens
So then you put a twist on it by having a duplicate room much deeper in the dungeon, or maybe on the way out, that behave exactly the same, except that when it hits zero a lot of small doors open and dozens of kobolds run out.

1 hour later…
4:37 PM
Although, as I think about it, having a penalty for pushing the button could also be interesting. Something mild that becomes more dangerous each time it's pushed, so that eventually they have to decide between the known danger of pushing the button one more time, or the unknown danger of letting the timer run out.
Maybe something like the poison gas, or the room begins to flood 1 inch each time the button is pushed.

What is unreality that is not any of these: imaginary, fictional, surreal, virtual, dream, nonexistent, changing, contingent, dependent, immaterial, negative, unknown, philosophical zombie things? what is the essence of unreality?

5:49 PM
@Secret So I guess the first question is "what is reality?" with the first answer being "everything you can see, touch, or otherwise interact with." So unreality would be something you can't see, can't touch, and can't interact with in any way through normal means. Something like the spirit world, or higher dimensions that our normal 3+1 senses can't do anything with.
I have a personal theory that the spirit world is the higher dimensions that we can't detect or interact with through any known natural scientific methods.

My sister didn't get the memo about the world being overpopulated. She's inflicting another brat on the world as of today...

@Hosch250 It's not overpopulated yet.

Just in the cities.
Lots of space left in the country.

That's true

So now when Trump writes an executive order to prevent federally funded universities discriminating against Jews, this is conclusive proof that he's an anti-Semite? That's some impressive spin, even for the NYT.

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica The outright dishonesty any time and of those places report anything on Trump is ridiculous to an extreme.
I mean, they (the collective media machine) are willing to praise terrorists to try to steal some of Trumps thunder.

holy shit??? a chatroom with real actual people that isn't blocked by my high school??? its a christmas miracle lmao

heh

@SamiNo Oh, we're not real people, sorry to disappoint.

F, guess i'll have better luck next time /s
I'd say that whoever is in charge of the web filter at my school just hates fun, but I'm pretty sure whoever is in charge of Lightspeed Web Filters throws darts at a board covered in names of websites while blindfolded, and they just block whatever the dart lands on.

Many websites are blocked as mature content despite all the mature content on there being user generated and having warnings. They blocked Neocities, Weebly, and Wix, all for being "mature websites", when they're all website makers. Toyhou.se, a database for people's characters and designs, is blocked for being mature as wel
Also once I went on a shady website to download some music because all the normal websites to listen to music on are blocked, and I got an ad for a pornographic game. Nothing happened to me, but when I accidentally clicked a page with one (1) swastika, I got my internet temporarily turned off by school administrators

8:09 PM
@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica I'm just trying to figure out what the hell the point was?
Like...can I ask him to sign an executive order that says "Italian" is a nationality? I mean it is...but seriously what is the point?
Jewish /= Israeli.
Israeli is the nationality. Cause there is no Jewishstan or Jewmaica or whatever. The country is Israel. The nationality is Israeli.

@James Anti-semitism is a thing though (there have been more hate crimes in the US against Jews than against black people recently), anti-Italianism is... not really a problem as far as I'm aware.

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica Fine. But hate crimes are already illegal.

I will agree that "race" would be a better category to put them under than "nationality", but that seems like a kind of unimportant semantic point to me. Does it really matter, since the outcome is exactly the same.

Since...you know they are crimes.
...but its already illegal to discriminate based on race/religion so what value does this executive action have?

Now if there are reports of anti-semitic hate crimes on a campus, and the university doesn't do the things it's supposed to do, the university loses funding. The hate crimes thing was just an example of how anti-semitism is a thing, this law doesn't impact how hate crimes work.
That was already how it worked if, say, there were reports of sexist or racist attacks on campus, and the university didn't do anything about it. This just added "Jew" to the list of protected groups.

8:17 PM
I heard it has something to do with the boycott Israel stuff...which...If I want to boycott a nation I am going to do that...you can't force me to spend money on a product from a certain place.
@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica Wouldn't it have already been racist?

@James I think there's a specific list of races and nationalities it applies to, and this just added Jews to the list. And afaik, it has nothing to do with boycotting Israel.

I think the concern is that the Boycott Israel movement shows up pretty strongly on some college campuses. And replublicans do have a tendency to equate calling out the Israeli government with anti-semitism.
So if this order is used to tell people they can't boycott Israel on campus because its anti-semitic...that'd be some BS

@James Just calling out Israel isn't anti-semitism. Calling out Israel for stuff you'd never call any country that wasn't Israel out for is probably anti-semitic.

8:33 PM
@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica I agree, but I often see people equating the two.

@James It is an issue, but there is definitely a problem with anti-semitism on the left. Ilhan Omar, for example, is a Democratic congressperson who is blatantly anti-semitic, with no apparent repercussions.

9:17 PM
Also Burnie has Linda Sarsour on as one of his top people, and she's had more "anti-semitic gaffs" than your average neo-nazi.
At some point it stops being a gaff, and just shows the true nature of her heart
Plus all the other racist people he's had to fire from his campaign.

And it's not just the American left, either. Labour in Britain is so anti-semetic that one of Britain's top Rabbis has actually called them out on it.

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica Plus, like you said, actual attacks have been on the rise. Which mostly go unreported.
But you know what, it's something Trump did, so it must be evil in some way. Quick, everyone denounce Trumps anti-racism! /s

@AndyD273 I think it was yesterday that a couple of black supremacist guys went into a kosher supermarket and killed 3 jews and a police officer. And the mainstream media isn't going to make it a big story. Imagine if a couple of white supremacists had gone into a black supermarket and shot the place up. It'd be all over the news for days.

Yeah. Hypocrites.
But I gotta go meet the bus. Adios!

1 hour later…
10:44 PM
@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica That was probably the most interesting thing that happened this election just from pure surprise value.

@Bellerophon Your election is tomorrow, right?

Yeah, I really need to work out where the polling station is.

Good luck, and hopefully whatever government ya'll end up with doesn't ruin the country too badly.
