3:07 AM
hey there @Green

@Shalvenay hey!

how're things going?

3:26 AM
@dot_Sp0T that reminds me: what do they call spring break in Australia? Fall break, or first-semester-break, or what?

2 hours later…
4:57 AM
Are we allowed to have more than one Sandbox draft open at a time? I've got one in there already I'm still working on, and another potential one that I think is much closer to being able to be asked on the main site.

5:09 AM
@Shalvenay Pretty well I think. I'm figuring out where to go looking for a new job.

5:21 AM
@Pleiades it's allowed, if you are using it actively. Old drafts you stoppedwork on should be purged.
@Green where a in geography, or which job boards are worthwhile?

@JDługosz That's what I thought, but I wanted to be sure. Thanks!

@JDługosz I'm looking for remote AWS architect work. My search is still new so I haven't posted to a ton of job boards yet.
@JDługosz Every job I've gotten so far has been because I know someone. It seems the best approach to continue looking.
I don't have any friends who can hire me so I gotta go make new friends :)

@Green I know the feeling. I'm looking for more short term work rather than a major long term — do the specialty stuff but not get shunted over to maintenance after a few months.

@JDługosz My forte is not running things. I can troubleshoot just fine but day to day running of things....not for me.
@JDługosz Have you found that to almost always be the case? If you stay long term, you get stuck running the thing you built?
@JDługosz What's your speciality?

6:19 AM
@dot_Sp0T I could not find you on LinkedIn.
@Green C++ software development; clean design; robustness; refactoring. Complaining about legacy code and being able to do something about it!

@JDługosz My specialty is to see why things are the way they are, to see things as they are and to make an optimal plan for how to go forward. My current area of specialty is IT infrastructure architecture; the difficult matching of what the business tells you they want, to what they actually need to what the technology can deliver.
I've been spending a lot of my time thinking about why organizations make really dumb decisions and the incentives that are satisfied when those decisions are made.
...because the decisions aren't dumb to the people that make them. I'm trying to figure what their perspective is.

7:03 AM
They don't seem
also, most organisations end up being dumb in aggregate

@Secespitus I like the sound of Beauty Beast for the very least as a working title. How about I name a character after you?

2 hours later…
8:47 AM
@JDługosz no idea, I'm not from there^^

What's going on?

@JDługosz dang; I use my nick almost anywhere, use real name on linkeding - but real name again is found on the twitters
@JDługosz shall I look for you?

@dot_Sp0T On Twitter I saw Michael MESS Stocker but couldn't find variations of that.

@JDługosz Glad you like the title (no need to name a character after me :D), best of luck with the project

@dot_Sp0T Yes. easy to find.
@Secespitus I'd like to though! I'm always short on good realistic names.

8:50 AM
@JDługosz make it all lowercase, remove the clutter and replace it with a dash and you'll have me ;)
Also just messaged u on there

@JDługosz In that case feel free to do so. It would be interesting to see my name in a book

@Secespitus BTW, I squezed out two pages of the opening scene, so it's officially a work in progress now. Want to see?

@JDługosz Sure

@Secespitus adobe.ly/2pk5QPm

@dot_Sp0T feel free to look, too.
I need someone to do an illustration. Cool, unique, heroine!
@dot_Sp0T There are 129 matches to Michael-Stocker.

@JDługosz yeah but only one that claimed it as his linkedin address ;)

9:01 AM
@dot_Sp0T Hmm, the person search didn't seem to care.

@JDługosz i know, it's a weird site

@Secespitus That file work OK?

"Yes! one at a time, please." <- Capitalization of "one" (and a space too much I think)
Very interesting start and I like the slogan :D I had to look up "corpsing", is that a well known phrase?

@Secespitus It is hyperlinked. Nice thing about ebooks…

@JDługosz The hyperlink doesn't work for me as it's just an image, but yeah that's probably a good thing to do for the final product.

9:10 AM
@Secespitus What PDF reader are you using?

@JDługosz Firefox
Okay, when I download it I can click the link. Interesting.

@Secespitus Works for me. Did you open the PDF, or just read the Adobe formatted page. Yipes, it looks awful for a non-logged-in user! I wonder why they use different engines for anonmous browsing vs people logged into Cloud?
@Secespitus So, you'll see the text is a lot nicer that way too! Actual truetype fonts rendered on your system.

@JDługosz Indeed, I'll download it from now on when reading stuff from you... Normally I don't have such problems with Firefox and PDFs

@Secespitus I have to decide when to give a full description of Ann. Should it just be narrated, or how better to work it in?

@JDługosz Good question... There is always the "looking into mirror" option. Or you could for example have someone be a bit stumped when first seeing her and then she or Blue explains what is going on - in a marketing speech style advertising their brands maybe?

9:19 AM
Mirror is one of those "don't" points given to writers.
@Secespitus Yea... from the "reality star" persona it makes sense to have an interview or something.
Starting the story when she goes off to college, she's around new people and gets a fresh start in a lot of ways. But I figure this scene is a ways into the second semester, end of spring.

5 hours later…
2:50 PM
hey there @Secespitus

Hello @Shalvenay.

how's it going @Bellerophon?

@Shalvenay Pretty good. Looking at joining an RPG with a few friends.

nice, what system and setting, and in-person or online?

Stars Without Number, online.

2:54 PM
ah, interesting, mind giving me the premise then?

Not sure yet, I've never played it before but a guy dropped out of their group so I'm probably going to take his place.

3:47 PM
@JourneymanGeek Yeah, that's a much better way to say it.

3:57 PM
@JourneymanGeek There's gotta be a way to avoid that outcome. I realize it will take some really careful management but there's gotta be a way to do it.

4:12 PM
hey there @Green and @Mithrandir24601

@Shalvenay hey!

how're things going?

@Shalvenay question for you. How do you go about job hunting?
@Shalvenay still looking for a new job :)

@Green ah. where are you on this planet and what are you after?

@Shalvenay Ni hao! Got another concert tonight! :D

4:14 PM
@Mithrandir24601 nice

@Shalvenay Northeastern US, AWS Architect, remote highly preferred.
I'm not particular to AWS specifically, it's just where I have my certs at the moment. My skills are general to any underlying compute infrastructure.

4:53 PM
ah. not sure if I can really help you much then :/

5:13 PM
@JDługosz An illustration you say? Is that your book, btw?

hey there @Aify pets

5:31 PM
mewls Actually I also love headpats irl lmao

6:04 PM
hey again @Green

6:15 PM
@Shalvenay Ah, that's fine. I spread my intent around, like seeds on the wind. Somewhere it might grown. No worries :)

@Green Well, if I ever need an AWS architect you'll be the first person on my list.

@Bellerophon Thanks! It doesn't have to be AWS, I can work in any kind of IT server environment.

7:17 PM
@Green -- yeah, the biggest problem for you would be remote/relocation though (my employer's off in the middle of the country and only rarely does remote stuff)
@Green -- could you give an old VAX the TLC it deserves? ;)
(yes, we still have those where I work)
