@gerrit No, it would be way too broad. It's also not very clear what you're asking, I read the question and couldn't understand what you were describing.

hey there @Era and @Aify, how're things going?

1:08 AM
I'm exhausted, as usual lol

Era

doing pretty dang well for once actually (no jinx), you?

alright here, learned some atmospheric science (apparently methane isn't as stable in the absence of combustion as I thought :P)
hoping to get some D&D back going soon

10:03 AM
@dot_Sp0T It's nice not having to worry about exams :P (OK, apart from the extremely important one that's going to take place in about 3 years or so if all goes well)

@Aify To clarify, it's not my question, but I'm a mod on Earth Science so I could have migrated it.

@sphennings Are you around? Remember that one time we were talking about the new casino in Everett. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Massachussets Gambling Comission is thinking about not granting a license due to the sexual whatever allegations against Steve Wynn.
The best part is that I was reading up on this, and the city of Everett has already used the first $8 million of their projected $125 million payout from the casino to reduce property tax bills

I hadn't heard about the tax bill.

So, because of #MeToo hysteria, the poor people of Everett have to fork over $8 million, and assuredly the Mass Gambling commission will spend millions defending their breach of contract in court
Local government, ladies and gents!
Yeah it was for the 2017 tax year, I guess.
Do you own or rent?

I'd need to see the contract to know if it's been breached. The impressions I was given on the news was that since the payout wasn't disclosed during their initial assessment the gaming board is wanting to know why it wasn't disclosed and want to reconsider their decision in light of this new information.
I rent.

@sphennings Ahh, interesting
The payout wasn't disclosed to the Gambling Comission?

@kingledion That's correct.

6:13 PM
Lol
Someday, when I'm rich, I'm going to be local government anti-corruption activist.
Which means, I'm going to bribe people to be less corrupt.
@sphennings Here in Fairfax county, there is so much money going around and the county government has basically no oversight.

Not the payout for the Casino. The $7 million payout Wynn made to settle the allegation claims out of court.

Oh oh oh
Well, I think the point is that Wynn has already paid the city of Everett and probably some other local governments money. I have to imagine that if the Gambling Commission doesn't license them, they can sue for their money back.

That would depend on the contract. Construction hasn't stopped, that's for sure.

Yeah, there is too much money involved. I'm sure its just posturing. They're not going to leave a half-finished abandoned building, this isn't Everetty SSR.

Heh it's not the best office space but it would make a cheap headquarters for Amazon...

6:18 PM
True on all counts

40% voted to revoke gambling licenses in the state last election. This will probably bump up that number.

Oh wow, referendum ban on gambling is a risk that you can't sue your way out of.

Worst case scenario is that another casino conglomerate will buy it from Wynn re-brand and open a year or so late.
