morning

@bilbo_pingouin is Karma alive? Just checking if its worth to also join Worldbuilding Robots

yup she is

yaaay

2 hours later…
8:30 AM
So how's life treating everyone? Looks like summer finally arrived here in England.

same here... but rain should pop back... this week already

I got treated in best way possible today
I won 150 000 Euro!!!
My e-mail was randomly selected from all the e-mails on the internet and I did win!!!

do reply to win more often :)

I already did
They just need my credentials to my internet banking so that they could easily deposit the money in
Which I did. Now I just wait till money will be deposited :D

should not last too long until there's some movement on your bank account

8:43 AM
^^ lol
On more serious note, it already happened to me
My credit card got copied
And someone in Phillipines withdraw all my bank balance
Luckily, banks are insured against this, so I got my money back
But still, the feeling is really bad

9:00 AM
yeah, I can imagine the feeling of casually looking at your account's content... and the despair of reading a 0...

Especially seeing that your balance is negative because of the withdrawal of money combined with fees for using ATM in foreign country

they could have calculated that... and only leave it at 0...
pff... those lazy blokes...

maybe we should ask our mods how they feel about it?
@TimB ^^^

The question is, if we can deploy KarmaBot to this room

I believe the main issue with KarmaBot was being able to ping absolutely everyone in the room - that's fixed now, moved to operator-only.

second issue might be that someone will want to play with bot while others are chatting
but I feel thats general moderation issue

I guess we can leave the WBR room opened for more testing, feature dev, etc. while the stable Karma would be here

and it does have a disable command

10:47 AM
nice
so, do we have three tokens in my idea?

I'm sitting on the fence

I think that would be generally nice... Chemistry have their interactive bot on their main chat.

Does it hurt? :)

a few others have just passive bots like CR

exactly

10:50 AM
@PavelJanicek yeah, it's one of those spiky fences
0/10 would not sit again

So long as the bot doesn't spam the room or ping people I don't have a problem
So lnog as it doesn't become a problem then it's not a problem
2
and yes having a separate test room and a prod deployment here makes sense

@TimB that's a pretty good way of dealing with most things...

yep. Agree
As long as Karma is not causing a problem, she will be here
I hope

Cool :)

11:05 AM
so, @ArtOfCode do it
DO IT NOW

no can do now

Oh my god, I am worse than ten year old a day before christmas

haven't got my private key on me

And I have been naughty

Bot started.

^ Bot is now running in here. $>listcommands will tell you what it can do. Ping me with any problems.

@Mods: you're all deliberately bot operators, so you can $>disable it if it becomes necessary, without me around.

yaaaay
@KarmaBot hi

@PavelJanicek Hello, young Padawan.

12:56 PM
I suspect none of you have any idea how much of a scientist's job is really just data entry.
Which if just a different way of letting you know that I'm procrastinating because I don't want to be doing data entry right now.

Last time I was dealing with data was my college project
and at the end I had to use Student's constant
Which is constant made up specifically so that crappy measures match the expected ones
Also, in least interesting news: Today I learned, that professor I had for statistics is still teaching. This proffessor is active for 51 years in field of statistics

That's quite interesting. You could even say it's a... statistical anomaly! i.imgur.com/BbgL7x3.gif

@MikeL. I have a fair idea :)

1:19 PM
Zou can also make a study about how much people care about data
Because you can always post: "The scientists discovered that banana peels cure cancer"

@PavelJanicek Probably, but I don't suppose a graphics conference would be particularly interested in that.

And I bet no one will care about data :D

@PavelJanicek Also, I have 29° in my office.

of what? :)
Visiting US site made me learn that I always have to specify what degrees are we talking about
And visit to my brittish colleague learned me that soemeone still measures weight in stones :)
300.15 degrees here :D

@PavelJanicek 302K, if you want to be that way.

@MikeL. yay! Thank you. And as I posted, 300.15 K here

@PavelJanicek This is in an attic office in the New Town.

Fifth level of office building in Hradec Kralove here

1:52 PM
@PavelJanicek Panel building?

Did not check, but I guess so
Luckily, it got bit renovated, so we have AC here

@PavelJanicek So do we. It's just not nearly powerful enough, and since we're immediately below the roof (a slanted one, to boot), all the walls are radiating heat.
@PavelJanicek Are you getting any work done or did you just bring up a kiddie pool or something?

@MZeinstra What ho old bean!

no problem
but I can assure you Karma was heavily tested
mostly by me >D

hehe
I'll invoke the powers of Sauron upon the bot
and empower it ;p

The goal is to keep Karma low here, as a helper

@KarmaBot help

user153821
1:57 PM
@TheHunter I'm KarmaBot, ArtOfCode's chatbot. You can find the source code on GitHub. You can get a list of all commands by running $>listcommands, or you can run $>help command to learn more about a specific command.

I have a feeling Karma is going to cause a lot of disruption here
@KarmaBot say you agree with me

user153821
@DaaaahWhoosh This chatroom is just a Richard hive of scum and villainy.

she will, because people will be curious

Heh, I bet I know where that last say came from
Mos Eisley

aaand I have to leave

user153821
1:58 PM
@PavelJanicek Leaving already?

yes, I am

@PavelJanicek Are you trying to hold a conversation with your own bot?

@KarmaBot breakingnews

user153821
@ArtOfCode BREAKING NEWS: DaaaahWhoosh found solution to '^'. It is: 'I've got a one player pong on my calculator and everybody thinks I'm a god at school.'

So I feel like I'm gonna have to lay down some bot rules.

2:01 PM
@DaaaahWhoosh I think she will at first... but that will die down... the dedicated chat has been less active in the last weeks... as most of the testing was done already

Playing with bots is cool, human social interaction is cooler. If someone's trying to have a conversation, please don't start messing with the bot and disrupting that - people take precedence.
3
And secondly, bot operators get the say on misuse - if you're asked to stop doing something, please stop. I'd rather not have to make use of the ban commands.
And lastly, mods get the final say on basically anything, 'cos they're the ones with the shiny buttons.

maybe Karma should say something the first time a user makes a command
which makes me wonder, does Karmabot have a preferred set of pronouns?

that... would be difficult
@DaaaahWhoosh he/she/it, depending on how human it sounds

for some reason, I think she's a she, I can't tell if I'm picking that up from somewhere or if I'm just AI-sexist
@KarmaBot say what gender you identify as

user153821
@DaaaahWhoosh ted is back

2:07 PM
so I guess she's a man now?

@DaaaahWhoosh it was established by Serban that Karma is to be referred as a "she"...
on WB Robots chat's history one might still find the reason

2:22 PM
@bilbo_pingouin eh, I looked, but I did not find anything
@KarmaBot hi

user153821
@DaaaahWhoosh Hello!

@bilbo_pingouin oh, well that's overactor then, not Serban

yeah who started...
but I might misremember
ah not Serban in any case
I meant Pavel
sorry

oh, yeah that would make more sense

Q: Moderators using their powers on their own posts

T.J.L.The question "You can control a Demon by knowing its True Name, but why?" has brought some controversy, as discussed in the meta "Closing of True Name question". I was looking at it further and realized that the original question was asked by a moderator, and later protected by that same moderat...
