Uh... what happened to the "this has nothing to do with world building" close reason, and what do I use instead of it? The migrate option doesn't have any legitimate options yet...

5:15 AM
@Aify sorry, not sure what happened there. I've put it back. Eventually when we have a full slate of custom off-topic reasons we might have to deactivate it again, but so long as we only have one other, we've got room to have this catch-all one.

Thanks @MonicaCellio

Public Service Announcement: I'm beginning a cleanup of the tag, making sure that only questions about the Solar System have the tag. Phase 1 of this will include a lot of retagging. If you see questions that you think need that tag, ping me by replying to this message with links to those questions. In the meantime, try to not use the tag, just so I know what my progress is to date. Thank you.

Phase 2 will consist of the creation of the and tags to be used in cases where there are groups of planets or stars that are not related to the Solar System. I will be working on those shortly, again with requests for pings. Do not start using these tags yet.
Sorry about all of this boldfaced text. I just need to keep this is smooth and organized as possible. cc @MonicaCellio.
Oh, and if you have any questions, comments, concerns, etc., ping me.
Don't try to go to my mailbox on a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelgeuse.

@HDE226868 brb; reloading the front page now so I don't miss recently-active posts before retagging. :-)
Actually, just had a thought: presumably most of the questions with the solar-system tag aren't about our solar system and so would get retagged. @HDE226868, before you start replacing the tag on a bunch of questions, how 'bout taking a quick look at whether it'd be easier to retag (without creating a synonym) and then manually put the solar-system tag back on the few that warrant it?

@MonicaCellio I already checked; it seems about 50/50, at best. There are a fair amount of questions about colonizing the Solar System

@HDE226868 You do not check your Betelgause mailbox? What happens then if they send you the plans about building a galactic highway or something?

@HDE226868 oh, ok. In that case, proceed!

@Hohmannfan I refer them to a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying "Beware of the leopard".

Okay, looks like I'm done. I removed the tag from 21/56 (37.5%) of questions containing the tag - so actually under 50%.
Whoops, missed one.

Hey @HDE226868 (or anybody else), while we're bumping all these questions anyway, does some subset of them provide input for an interesting blog post, either a "selection of interesting Q&A about X" post or a deeper dive inspired by one question and its answers? (We've had both types of blog posts in the past.)
I lack the science knowledge to do it justice.

@MonicaCellio I've continuously thought about putting together a blog post on the stability of planetary systems, but it would basically lead to "We can't accurately figure out the stability of most $N$-body systems."

@HDE226868 yeah, the big, general article would be hard to write, but maybe there are some interesting case studies that can be talked about? (Like I did with my questions on that binary-star system.)
You've done some of this anyway; your "day on Planet Sitnikov" post is one of our most popular posts!

@MonicaCellio I could go after the Earth-with-two-Moons scenario that's gotten tossed around a bit.

@HDE226868 that would be interesting. Feel free to cast it as a "what-if" post in the style of this one. Or not -- your choice.

@MonicaCellio That would be cool.
I can draw from a couple of answers I've written for it.

@HDE226868 yes, I figured you had work on the site that you could reuse. :-)
Oh, I just looked -- Planet Sitnikov isn't merely one of the blog's most popular posts; it's the most popular. Congrats! Readers do seem to like the harder-science posts, so it's always nice to have more of those.

11:25 PM
@MonicaCellio Really? Wow!
Where are those stats?

@HDE226868 main page, "manage" menu, stats.
I don't see any way to sort the list; I just scanned it.

Thanks.
