@BESW Attack the Block! Me! I saw it!
Sorry, was looking at Jugendstil.
So: pheromones.
A case of mistaken identity is a perfect justification to focus on the party without caring about them.
Anyway, how'd you like the film?
It was REALLY well done!
I enjoyed it a lot
I think I missed some of the societal commentary, and I know some of my friends did when I showed them.
11:56
@BESW was there much?
Well, the very premise of the piece is a social statement, about the potential of the marginalised and discarded.
yeah that's true - and about the kids being kinda nice, despite mugging a nurse at the beginning
The people society has given up on as irredeemable, shoved away into projects and forgotten, are the heroes. And yes--despite winding up as heroes, they are portrayed optimistically but not ignoring their real... problems.
What did you think of the monster design?
12:08
@BESW It looked very cool. And even in well-lit rooms, it helped them stick to the rule of showing as little as possible.
The thing was pure bigness, frighteningness, and teeth
It reminded me of the xenomorph from Alien: "This is a thing which is a mouth. It is here to eat you."
That is it
There are no unnecessary parts in its design
It is "perfect," as Bishop would put it: perfectly designed for its function.
Also it's fuzzy.
I liked that.
I liked that too.
(And I liked that that helped them hide its shape further. No clear silouhette.)
Overall, a really great example of How To Horror.
And they didn't do much with gore, or jump scares, and nearly everyone lived!
It was all style, and very textbook style, but with a few twists. Don't show the monster much; we'll make 'em shadows. Focus on the visceral horror of being prey; the mouth is the only detail.
I think it's a good primer.
(And the acting was spot-on from everyone involved.)
12:30
@BESW The acting was out of this world
Sorry, I know I'm gushing.
I am super impressed
This is something that is 100% okay to gush about, haha
It was just so good
12:45
Did you notice that everyone who got out as fast as they could survived?
Nobody who ran died.
13:04
@BESW that's true!
They definitely knew their horror tropes and played into them as much as subverted them.
