12:54 AM
@NeilFein W00t!
@Jed I haven't seen you in ages.

Oh. Hi there @Kit
I suppose it has been ages hasn't it.

Kit
What's new with you?

Not especially much. I had an overriding desire to sit down and write something and after I beat my creative instinct to death I decided to visit Writers.SE and its affiliated sites. You?

Kit
I've been writing a lot more than I thought I ever would. More regularly.
That's been nice.
So what did you write?

1:09 AM
Yeah. I'm trying to get in the habit everyday myself instead of waking up at 3am in a cold sweat with an idea that won't quit until it gets itself represented in ones and zeroes.

Kit
Yes. That has been a nice benefit.

I am gearing up to abandon and eventually delete a story of debatable length about a realistic portrayal of Santa Claus, if I'm to be honest.

Kit
OK, I'm lying. I still have those days.
@JedOliver Don't bother deleting it. There is no need for that.
Just start something new.

Typical average Joe becomes Santa and saves Christmas story, but with a twist.
Turns out that Santa is more FedEx than fairy tale and he decides to retire, etc., etc., etc.
May start something else.
Oh, and @Kit, whats up with this weekly writers thingamajigger?

Kit
You can always come back to it later.
@JedOliver We do writing exercises and chat every Tuesday.

1:14 AM
Yeah. 3-5 P on punishment. Saw that. I don't imagine you post that much in chat. i imagine you post it on your blog or whatevs and provide a link?

Kit
That's right.

Kit
Mostly blogs, but some people have used Pastebin or Google docs.
I like having the blog.

yeah. I know Neil has used google docs
I've got a very anemic blog that needs some tlc where I can post it and host it
And then you discuss it like normal reasonable people, as in, like, a writers group?

Kit
Yeah. Kinda. Depends on who's here.

1:19 AM
I saw there was like 15-16 people signed up for next week. Do that many people bail? And aren't you the EL&U mod anyways?

Kit
Yes and yes.

I see.

Kit
Sometimes we have a good size group of about 6 or so. Other times, it's pretty much me talking to myself.
In October and November, the groups were much bigger because of NaNoWriMo.

That should give an idea about how long I've been away from SE. The last thing I remember participating in is the EL&U moderator elections.

Kit
Oh. You mean when I got elected? Or the priors?
;-)
I didn't realize you'd been away from all of the sites.
You have a little one, right?

1:24 AM
You. I won't tell you who I voted for but have I ever told you of the leadership qualities of the vulpes family?

Kit
I don't believe so.

I have three. well, five if I'm to be honest. but two live with their mom.

Kit
Oh right.

I believe you also have a handful of handfuls yourself, correct?

Kit
Just two.
Very sweet and charming children.

1:27 AM
I can only use those descriptors when they're unconscious.
I believe my ceiling has muddy footprints sometimes.

Kit
Hahaha.
I feel very privileged that mine are so restrained.

Does the Olympic committee give awards for furniture jumping? If so, I may actually just have a small collection of world class athletes.

Kit
Long jump, perhaps.

Well, it's more of a combination of long jump, cliff diving and lucha libre.

Kit
Is it fun?

1:34 AM
Not for whomever is on the floor. I tend to be a bit agnostic about it. Their mother, on the other hand, tends to have small coronary events whenever the little ones get 'active'.

Kit
That's unfortunate.
Sounds like you need a good supply of Xanax.

At any rate it's just about dinner time where I'm at, and until the 6-year-old starts making better empenadas I guess I'm going to make dinner

Kit
OK. Later! Come to the chats.

[sighs] yes, mom
Oh, Hi @NeilFein

Hi!

Kit
1:38 AM
And sometime I would like to hear your thoughts on the leadership qualities of Vulpes.

sometime...

Kit
Hi @Neil.

Hey, @Kit

Kit
I still haven't recorded those lyrics.

Okay. I'm not gonna make you sit in the corner.

Kit
1:43 AM
I didn't figure it was urgent.

No, but if we can get more projects going with the "band" it'd be nice.

Kit
Pansexual Fleshlight.

I'll see if I can dig up any other song fragments. I was working on some soundtrack cues that I ended up not using, I'll see if I can find the disc.
Imaginary Pansexual Fleshlight.

Kit
I'm neither a good lyricist nor a good melodist.
I mentioned that, I'm sure.

We don't need it to be good, just finished.

Kit
1:46 AM
Intergalactic Pansexual Fleshsquad.

Oooh, I like that.
Fleshsquid?

Kit
IPF.

The Israeli Pancake Force.

Kit
I'm off. Night!

Night!

@jgbelacqua: if you wrote a novel where you gave the heroine a different name and ethnicity on every page, this would also subvert the dominant paradigm, but I doubt it would add to its legibility. — Peter Shor Jun 8 '11 at 0:36

@Kit Hey Kit, I was wondering... Do you know of any resource around the internet that helps you through the creation of characters (it reminds you what things you need to consider to create a full character)... I'm especially interested in: how to decide what characters are going to be good or bad. Now, I know I'm the one who decides, but a nice resource with tips to go through that phase would be nice.

6 hours later…
5:29 PM
@Alenanno Maybe the generator mentioned in this question could help?

5:55 PM
@NeilFein That's nice. But I was thinking about deciding "Should this character be good or bad?" I think I finally decided it, but thanks for the tool anyway, I'll need it when writing about the characters. :)

There are a few other questions about character creation and management on the site. I'm wondering, maybe Scrivener does something like this?

I don't know, don't have it... :D

Then it writes your book for you, does the laundry, and paints your house.

Wow, I must buy it. :D

Seriously, they have a downloadable demo. It's good for thirty days. You can use it for a week, do nothing for a month, then you still have the rest of the time left.
