@SirPython I was experiencing lag last night with VSCode running a local Node.js server to run the React app, but I think it was mostly my PC. I did a bunch of much needed cleaning on it and gave it a good night's sleep turned off, and now it works just fine with the Node server running
Unfortunately I don't know of another way to shut down the Node server than to go to task manager and end the Node.js process :/
IIRC Cardshifter is running on Apache rather than Node... or something. I'm really not sure how to run the client in dev environment

4:13 AM
@SirPython I'm going to try out this TDD React/Redux To-Do List tutorial. It uses enzyme for tests rather than Mocha

enzyme looks pretty nifty, simple enough
import React from 'react';
import { shallow } from 'enzyme';
import App from './App';

it('App renders without crashing', () => {
  const component = shallow(<App />);
  expect(component.exists()).toEqual(true);
});
 PASS  src\App.test.js
  √ App renders without crashing (6ms)

Test Suites: 1 passed, 1 total
Tests:       1 passed, 1 total
Snapshots:   0 total
Time:        1.739s
Ran all test suites related to changed files.

Well, done with part 1/4, got UI testing setup with Selenium, which I'm ecstatic about!
Now's a good time to call it a night

Hey everyone :)

hey @Marc-Andre

Hey @bazola :) ! How are you ?

im doing alright! how about you

1 hour later…
2:44 PM
The kid and the GF is sick, so I hope to not catch it :)
WE will have a new provider for internet/phone adn tv :) So that's great! I'll have faster internet and the GF will have tv again (we only add internet). And it will not be too pricy

3:38 PM
@Marc-Andre Nice!

Yep I'm at 30mbits currently and I'll have 300mbits :) a good upgrade :) With unlimited
data

@Marc-Andre 300 Mbps is very nice indeed! Who is the new provider?
@Feeds Mwahaha

4:11 PM
ESLint is driving me slightly nuts lol. You start typing and immediately everything is red because "that thing you just declared is never used", and I think like "I know, I just made it, give me a break!"

4:22 PM
Oh man I'm digging this UI testing
const expect = require('chai').expect;

describe('TodoList App', () => {
  it('Should load with the right title', () => {
    browser.url('http://localhost:3000/');
    const actualTitle = browser.getTitle();

    expect(actualTitle).to.equal('Todo List');
  });

  it('Should allow to create a Todo', () => {
    const todoText = 'Get better at testing';
    browser.url('http://localhost:3000/');
    browser.element('.todo-input').setValue(todoText);
    browser.click('.todo-submit');
    const actual = browser.element('.todo-text').getText();
It's so cool to watch Chrome just drive itself
I think this will come really handy for Cardshifter @SirPython ^

4:52 PM
@Phrancis Bell

5:16 PM
@Phrancis Maybe there is a way to trigger it on save instead of all the time

@Phrancis That's what Visual Studio yells at me... I start writing a method body, then I see a warning/notification, hover over it and it says "not all paths return a value"... Really? And then I realize I fell for it again

@Marc-Andre Maybe. Doesn't bother me too much, but took a bit to get used to at first
@Marc-Andre Is it ADSL or cable Internet?

@Phrancis Fiber :)

@Marc-Andre oh shit, very nice!

Yep theoretically I could have the fiber internet but it's not worth the price atm.

5:24 PM
My employer is starting to test Fiber to the Home just now in a small market
Since the infrastructure is so expensive, they don't want to deploy over a large area until they work out the kinks and make sure it's something people actually want vs. cable

Yeah Quebec was the first city to have Fiber to home, it is really nice :)

Is Bell still using the public telephone network in other places? (I'm guessing Videotron probably has sort of a monopoly over cable networks)

Bell is now, at least in Quebec City, only using their fiber network. The tv and phone are over that network as far as I'm aware

What about outside of Quebec City?

I really don't know sorry

5:35 PM
Part 2 of tutorial is done, and looking spiffy. Now Part 3 introduces Redux, maybe this will help me understand how it works a little better

Which tutorial ?

I have to say, React/JSX code probably looks really weird to programmers who use more traditional languages/platforms

Thanks

5:59 PM
import actions from '.';
import types from '../constants';

describe('Actions', () => {
  const todoText = 'A Todo';

  it('Should create an action to add a Todo', () => {
    const expectedAction = {
      type: types.SUBMIT_TODO,
      id: 1,
      text: todoText,
    };

    expect(actions.submitTodo(todoText)).toEqual(expectedAction);
  });
});
Makes sense so far, now let's make the test pass

6:49 PM
Did it pass?

Oh yeah
This TDD method really seems to make it easier to focus on what the code should do!

7:19 PM
That looks near identical to Mocha, AFAICT

I thought it looked familiar
Much recommend that tutorial btw
I think Redux is finally starting to make some sense

The cartoon tutorial, or the one about to-dos?

The one about todos
Hm I think the author accidentally omitted something in Part 3
/* global document  */

import React from 'react';
import ReactDOM from 'react-dom';
import { Provider } from 'react-redux';
import App from './App';
import store from './store';
import registerServiceWorker from './registerServiceWorker';

ReactDOM.render(
  <Provider store={store}>
    <App />
  </Provider>,
  document.getElementById, ('root'),
);

registerServiceWorker();
That registerServiceWorker is not explained anywhere that I can tell, yet it crashes because it can't be found
And without it, nothing shows on the page when you run it
Nothing about it in Parts 1, 2 or 4 either
@SirPython any idea what I'm missing here? ^
Is that registerServiceWorker something that is supposed to be automagically created or something?

7:41 PM
No clue. I haven't gotten a change to look at the tutorial yet.

8:04 PM
And they say Lisp has a lot of parens and brackets
const TodoList = ({ todos }) => {
  const todoItems = todos.map(todo => (
    <li key={todo.id}>
      <span className="todo-text">{todo.text}</span>
    </li>
  ));

  return (
    <ul>
      {todoItems}
    </ul>
  );
};

TodoList.propTypes = {
  todos: PropTypes.arrayOf(PropTypes.shape(
    {
      id: PropTypes.number.isRequired,
      text: PropTypes.text.isRequired,
    },
  )).isRequired,
};
Hmm I would never have caught that error without the test... Correct PropType is text: PropTypes.string.isRequired,

8:28 PM
@SirPython I left a response on the article, hopefully the author notices

8:55 PM
What this author says makes sense to summarize in the last section, perhaps we should use that method. Note that this is after writing the UI test that is ran using Selenium/WebdriverIO
> I like to implement functionality by writing the action, the reducer, creating the component, then adding it to the App.
