@TheProfessor This reminds me of a time when I was paid to spend 2 hours browsing porn on the Internet.
It was on an IT security course. We were split into 4 groups. Each had a clean install of Windows. We used the default browser (IE), and VPNs to ensure we had different IP addresses.
One group browsed sport, another shopping sites, the third News & current affairs, and we were allocated porn. We were issued with lists of suggested topics & left to our own devices for a couple of hours.
After 2 hours, we all carried out the same series of online searches. The results were compared with the other groups and with those obtained on a 5th computer that had never been used online.
We compared the results. Interestingly, everyone found that the results returned on their 1st page were also returned on the first few pages of everyone else's results. However, the order in which the results were returned was very different.
It was not immediately obvious why the order was different. For example, our group didn't see porn sites on the first couple of pages for most of the searches, even though that was all the computer had been used for up to that point.
But it did illustrate the effect of search history on the results returned by the search engine.
We then went on to look at the malware that the computers had picked up while we had been browsing. That was also informative!
I also added several new words to my vocabulary that day! All things considered a very ... er ... educational ... experience!
