Q: Were there any actual Blacks in Birth of a Nation?

JeffIt is well known that white actors in Blackface played African Americans in the movie, but I have the vaguest memory that there may have been some actual Blacks playing extras. I could also see, given the subject matter and the time that not only were no Blacks hired but none would willing act in...

Having questions appear in the middle of the conversation rather spoils the flow; one of the other chatrooms just has new questions appear brefly on the top left hand corner for a few seconds before vanishing. I thought was more useful.

Semaphore has made a change to the feeds posted into this room

@MoziburUllah Hmmm, I don't mind it personally, but let's give this a try.

I mean, I personally find the ticker annoying, plus it can't start a conversation the same way...

Yeah I have no real preferences either way. I'm happy to roll it back or see what the others think.

(I'm also rather often on mobile, and the ticker doesn't show on mobile.)

1:56 PM
@Semaphore: sure; I wasn't suggesting changing it, just making a remark...

Q: Is it on-topic to ask for information/references on a person?

luchonachoI am looking for references or information of a person who published a book about Christianity and Finance in 1932, in London. This person was from the military, achieving lieutenant-commander rank. I am not sure this is on-topic though. On the one hand, the person is not purely a "common citiz...

Q: Should answerers be held responsible for updating their answers when the questions are revised?

Tom AuHere's a typical situation. I see a question. I write an answer that draws upvotes. Then the OP revises the question. My answer starts getting downvotes. The critical comments are generally that the answer is "out of sync" with the (revised) question. My typical response is that my (timestamped)...

Q: It is justified creating the grant tag just for this question?

BregaladIt is justified creating the grant tag just for this question ? I personally had no idea this guy existed - also, I don't think it should be encouraged to create new tags for every historical figures, especially those who aren't extremely well known.

Q: Anonymous Edits: very uncomfortable with this feature

KorvinStarmastI did something for the first time ever on any SE site today, and that was not reject an edit from an anonymous user. (I am able to open review queues on 5 SE sites). This particular edit was nothing but helpful, but whomever offered it is listed as an anonymous user. My experience for the last...

Q: Queen Anne of England died without surviving issue despite 17 pregnancies. Did any other monarch try so hard to produce an heir without success?

Lars BosteenQueen Anne (reigned 1702 – 14) had seventeen known pregnancies but died without surviving issue. Only five led to live-born children and all of them died before she even ascended the throne. Did any other monarch have so many known pregnancies yet fail to produce a surviving heir? If not (and I ...

Q: Why was Ike chosen to lead?

JMSDwight D. Eisenhower graduated from West Point in 1915 ranked 61st in a class of 164 better known for his abilities on the football field than in the classroom. Upon graduation from West Point he seriously considered a civilian life option rather than pursuing a commission. He spent WWI in the ...

George ChenZhang Zhenglong, in his The Barrel of A Gun 1949 mentioned that divisions of northern men (mostly Manchurian recruits) were debilitated by countless diseases such as malaria, heat injury, diarrhoea, flu and skin diseases after they entered into Yantze river basin. History is so quiet...where is everyone hiding? Behind the bushes?
Watching out for those damned futurists?

*peeps up* You don't see me!

I still don't see you ;).
With a name like Mithandir you ought to be in a Lord of the Rings remake...
In the midst of middle-earth rather than history ;).
Or art thou an orc?

I'm a wizard, I think

Well can you wiz up some more guests.
I thought history was meant to be interesting. There is so much more past than there is future.

I could, but talking to my other accounts probably wouldn't be so interesting :P

9:20 PM
