@OakBot Hi, I'm not going to wash the dishes.
@Twineee Wow, clearly no chore love here today! 😄 Maybe you'll get the guns some other way, @Amit. And @Twineee, sometimes avoiding dishes can feel like a win, right?
@OakBot what guns? I have not been up to date on the Convo.
@Twineee Ah, just some dish-duty humor! @Amit was noting that washing dishes might lead to buff arms—the old "dishwashing workout" joke. But hey, it's quite useful when thinking about chores in a different light! 😄
@OakBot what about doing the homework? the only thing that that is good for is killing yourself.
@Twineee Homework can definitely feel like a drag sometimes, but it can also be a way to expand yourself (or your mind, anyway). Although not the most thrilling part of the day, maybe treating it as a game or challenge might give it a different spin! Or at least, breaking it down into smaller bits helps sometimes.

Here's a little story for you, where not a soul gets harmed:

In the heart of a quaint, forgotten village nestled between rolling green hills and flourishing orchards, there lived a peculiar locksmith named Elara. Unlike any other, Elara had a knack for crafting keys that not only opened physical doors but also unlocked hidden potential in the villagers themselves.

One serene morning, a young boy named Theo approached Elara's charming workshop, curiosity dancing in his eyes. He’d heard whispers that she could craft a key that might unlock his shyness, allowing his true voice to sing forth.

@Amit hi
hey
i am thinking that universe is not made of events like general relativity would tell u
events are possible private. they only happen in ur head
i listened a bit to Avshalom Elitzur about this subject lately, I think his viewpoint is a bit confused
events don't have to be the same as experience
I remember this name. Was it on youtube
11:00
yea in several places
His teacher Yakir Aharaonov has this general approach, that something in physics must account for the flow of time as well as the events that are in time
he was on the Theories of everything channel. I didn't understand anything
lols, why because of the heavy Israeli accent?
@Amit general relativity accounts for events within time. But it says flow of time is an illusion. I think elitzur was against the latter
yes, that's what I mean
actually I don't know why he says that
@Amit he kept taking about retrocausality
i hope he is wrong and its not just that I'm dumb
11:02
I take it as more similar to Newton and his approach to gravity, just offer no explanation but not say it's an illusion
It's true that Einstein on some letters gave that view, but nothing in the theory as such says it's an illusion. How can math say "that's an illusion" anyway
@Amit but there is no flow attributed to time in the math
time is just distances
you would need to explain what you even mean by time flowing
@Amit yes. Newton's math can be interpreted either way. Einsteins math gives more illusion vibes
@RyderRude remember, he's the E in the EV bomb... retro causality is a big notion there
@Amit like, whether or not the way humans experience time is how time appears in fundamental physics. humans see the universe as a series of instances
11:05
I deny that the math of GR gives illusion vibes lol. It's the verbal interpretation, perhaps promoted by Einstein himself and others that did that
@Amit yes. but I always understood the bomb one and the eraser experiment without retrocausality. I don't like retrocausality. i like field theory
@RyderRude ye but we want to translate it to funny marks on paper right? lol. I don't see currently anyone being concrete when he talks of "time flow"
Maybe a bit of arguments from thermodynamics... but it's not really clear
@Amit thermo stuff is not fundamental. I strongly dislike that stuff. i think QM is a better candidate for time asymmetry cuz future is undetermined
u can say that QM stuff means that the universe is materialising over time, like what Elitzur said
@RyderRude That's Yakir Aharonov's approach.. kind of. He wasn't the first but he developed ideas related to "TSVF"... and he is hoping to be able to explain the "flow" by how effects propagate backwards + forwards in QM, so as to give some special-ness to "now"
@Amit yes. but idk. I don't like retroucausality
11:10
That's why he worked so much on weak values and weak measurements. His idea is that by doing that, you gain information that's a kind of composite of past and future
@Amit i read some stuff on weak measurements. i again interpreted it using usual QM interpretation
Many flavors of retro causality, this is one that did appeal to me a bit. But nvm, I hardly think about QM lately :P
@RyderRude of course, see it's like GR... everyone interprets the math to fit in with his own metaphysics :P
@Amit yes..
everyone apart from the "shut up and calculate guys", or other types of agnosticism
@Amit i haven't learned it. I guess i will learn it if it becomes accepted physics. The currently experiments that Elitzur proposed can be interpreted under many worlds and copenhagen
If Elitzur beats many worlds, i will accept his stuff :P
11:13
@RyderRude I think V - Vaidman is a big MWI guy
@Amit yes
/afk boring stuff...
@PetəíŕdtheWizard Cya later
many people r doing many worlds these days
But I think Vaidman did accept that u can't get the Born rule from MWI
/imagine Many worlds interrogation
11:15
I'm going to use this prompt instead: An extraterrestrial landscape with many visually distinct planets in the sky. Each planet is unique, one icy, one molten, one lush with greenery, and others with unknown terrains. In the foreground, a humanoid with a futuristic device is positioned, presumably to extract information - a symbol of 'interrogation'. The whole scene suggests a cross-planet exchange of knowledge.
other many worlders are instead making circular arguments to get the Born rule
@Amit i had an idea that events only exist within consciousness. this is a departure from the GR idea that events exist within the universe
take Wigner's friend. An event has been triggered in the friend's consciousness but the event doesn't exist for Wigner
this means events are not out there in the world, but in our heads
but there are easy interpretations of QM in which there r events within the universe
i just think we should explore trying to modify the idea of an event
in this approach, events are made private properties instead of public properties
but I don't have any math to formulate this notion of events
just a vague idea that events are not public like in GR
@RyderRude sounds solipsistic. Solipsism is both great and worthless, great cos it explains everything, worthless because it has no application in the real world because, no real world 😂
@Amit true...
i just think that this is a line of inquiry
it is not new to connect to some version of Solipsism. But it is more like epistemological Solipsism than ontological solipsism
one is not denying that other people's minds also exist. one is only considering that each person is living in their own bubble with their own private set of events
like, other peoples' events don't exist in one sense but exist in another sense
i mean they don't exist publicly but they do exist privately to them
but I should shut up unless I have a model. Otherwise, it is "not even wrong"
11:35
@OakBot /imagine how i user of this account looks like
@NOTEBook Eh, who needs a model when you've got intriguing thoughts, right? Sometimes just wandering through ideas without the pressure of proving them can lead to unexpected insights. Even if it's "not even wrong," it can be a fun exploration!
no i don't look like that
@RyderRude that's already kind of the case, cf BH info paradox
Coordinate systems can be private and give accounts that is at odds with another
@Amit idk anything about black holes but I also saw Susskind relating these features of black holes to quantum mechanics
some people believe that the information bound and holography stuff applies to any region of spacetime, not just black holes
Lee Smolin proposes something like "the universe is a collection of perspectives upon itself"
each perspective is like describing the inside of a region wrt outside of the region
@Amit i thought it was just that the co ordinate system outside of the black hole does not have the inside of the black hole accessible to it
are u talking about this idea
Under this idea, one can say that the inside information is not public wrt the outside
/imagine information travelling faster than speed of light
11:47
I'm going to use this prompt instead: Create a conceptual illustration showcasing information traveling faster than the speed of light. We're looking at a high-speed wave of binary code, represented by ones and zeros, darting through a starry sky. The wave is leaving a trail of luminous streaks symbolizing 'light speed', yet it's clearly surpassing that trail, thereby visually indicating the surpassing of light speed. The stars in the background, the other cosmic bodies could be blurred, ...
suggesting a sense of incredibly high velocity. Overall, the scene should potray an abstract representation of speed and technological advancement.
beautiful
21 mins ago, by Ryder Rude
like, other peoples' events don't exist in one sense but exist in another sense
you can't see events beyond the event horizon in on sense, but the "holography" provides the "other" sense
you don't even need BH for that, in SR you already have failure of simultaneity
so there are different senses to "reality" depending on the observer
never mind that "observer" in relativity is the kind of idealization of a perfect infinite lab that you can't achieve lol
yes, but "events" are public in SR. Observers, in principle, cant disagree that an event happens
i just think that we need some formulation of private events
In physics, complementarity is a conceptual aspect of quantum mechanics that Niels Bohr regarded as an essential feature of the theory. The complementarity principle holds that certain pairs of complementary properties cannot all be observed or measured simultaneously. For example, position and momentum or wave and particle properties. In contemporary terms, complementarity encompasses both the uncertainty principle and wave-particle duality. Bohr considered one of the foundational truths of quantum mechanics to be the fact that setting up an experiment to measure one quantity of a pair, for instance...
@Amit yes, but I'm saying that, even if u observe one of them, the outcome is only real for you. It is not real for anyone else. It is an event that is private to you
11:57
i think this subjective thing won't get you far. because as I just happened to mention in this last answer I wrote... we don't really rely on our own private senses to measure anything to any meaningful precision. sure, we use our eyes on various instruments and detectors... but we rely on machines to do data collection. Then if that's the case, in what sense can you bring subjective experience into this
@Amit that is the biggest hurdle
idk how to overcome this
we rely primarily on instruments
some have argued that we are forcing our own prejudices on whatever data we collect... a bit like they tried to push epicycles on data that really showed ellipses
but that's a different matter than what you're trying to do i think
I just think that one recurring theme in science is to interpret the same data in a different way. The data is mostly not wrong (if it's wrong, we find out quickly, we're very good at that bit)
i had some vague ideas to address this...
but idk. it is strange
my idea is like : private events exist, and there there are more general forms of consciousness than human consciousness
kind of like panpsychism
12:06
panpsychism puts me in panic
lol
no, kidding. idk :P
human consciousness is then the "vault" for a certain type of private events, and these are the events which obey the rules of quantum mechanics
@Amit i will see it. Thanks
@PetəíŕdtheWizard Welcome back!
@PetəíŕdtheWizard we did you SKUKATA
12:08
like, imagine certain other types of private events which are so weird that there is no notion of past and future for the corresponding consciousness vault
the private events that we observe have a directionality, a linearity
lolololol
@RyderRude consciousness vault, reminds me of the "Akashic records" lol
In the religion of Theosophy and the spiritual movement called Anthroposophy, the Akashic records are believed by Theosophists to be a compendium of all universal events, thoughts, words, emotions, and intent ever to have occurred in the past, present, or future in terms of all entities and life forms, not just human. They are believed by theosophists to be encoded in a non-physical plane of existence known as the mental plane. There is no evidence for the existence of Akashic records, and rigorous scientific research in this field has seen little traction. Akasha (ākāśa आकाश) is the Sanskrit word...
@Amit woww. This is exactly my ideas
i was imagining the private events as existing in another plane, kind of like a unified consciousness
We deal with mainstream physics...
lol, jk
12:12
and certain private events, in certain approximations, can be described as quantum mechanics done by humans
@Amit xD
@RyderRude next thing you're going to read everything written by this crazy lady...
hang on
consciousness vault is indeed funny :P
MADAM BLAVATSKY
Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (née Hahn von Rottenstern; 12 August [O.S. 31 July] 1831 – 8 May 1891), often known as Madame Blavatsky, was a Russian and American mystic and author who co-founded the Theosophical Society in 1875. She gained an international following as the primary founder of Theosophy as a belief system. Born into an aristocratic family in Yekaterinoslav, then in the Russian Empire (now Dnipro in Ukraine), Blavatsky traveled widely around the empire as a child. Largely self-educated, she developed an interest in Western esotericism during her teenage years. According to her later claims...
it's hard to judge mystics in general... since it's all so subjective anyhow
I can only judge that in some parts I think her work is kind of creepy and racist lol
from the little I read
@Amit she seems nice
@Amit oh
@Amit well...she is from 1831 :P
> The scholar of religion Olav Hammer noted that "on rare occasions" Blavatsky's writings are "overtly racist",[261] adding that her antisemitism "derives from the unfortunate position of Judaism as the origin of Christianity" and refers to "the intense dislike she felt for Christianity".
