Why not? In our modern age, doctors perform what one might reasonably refer to as "counterfeit resurrection" *literally every day.* It's even frequently referred to, in the vernacular, as a "medical miracle" or "miracle of modern medicine."

Jesus cured the sick. We can do that today. Jesus reattached a severed ear; we can reattach *entire limbs* today. Jesus was born to a woman who became pregnant without ever having sex. We can do that today too.
If you're trying to build your faith off of miracles, that's a very good way to be deceived, and is the precise opposite of how Christ told us it's supposed to work in Mark chapter 16: signs will follow those who believe. Signs and miracles do not precede and create faith; they arise as a result of it, and Jesus specifically called out those who demand a sign as a condition of belief as "wicked and adulterous" in Matthew chapter 16.

Instead of quoting the first verse as it reads in our books, he quoted it thus:

"shall be stubble" vs "shall burn as stubble"

Stubble can be saved in the original version, (it is not God's will that any should perish but that they repent)

Now the second change might not be such a big deal, but the first one where all the wicked ARE burned as stubble instead of "are stubble" has implications for the ability of the wicked to repent and turn back to God.
The "evil side" would benefit from discounting repentance.

Fifth verse...

The angel Moroni adds "priesthood" to the verse... which doesn't make sense. The entire chapter has nothing to do with any coming preists. There is the messenger, the warning to not rob God, etc... and the great day of God. No Priests mentioned, in context it doesn't fit even with the altered 6th verse.

Well... It seems sinful to change the part of the verse that would refer to God turning his face toward his children.
This is not simple "I forgot a half a sentence or a phrase but the meaning remained the same" this is full shifting of things away from forgiveness and God.

The wicked are burned by those who come, instead of are helpless and would burn on the day of the Lord. (note changed version removed God from the meaning replacing it with "they")

We have some kind of prophet and a priesthood... instead of just a prophet.

and the last verse removes the Father's heart turning toward their children, how cruel and dark.
It does not look like a translation error, it looks like what the forces of evil would do
And all the teachings from this source make it more difficult to challenge or defend against daemonic visions, etc.

The "divine glory" sourced from the Book or mormon isn't really valid "before" the book of mormon is proven to be the Word of God. And even if you say the Bible might have errors it has repeated sections on how to ensure that it is God/God's angels and not Satan or his fallen angels.

Answer: Well... Jesus specifically mentions false teachers 5 or so times. And there are the warnings of the "false teacher who will come at the consummation of the age" in revelations.
And the "persecution" of Joseph is biblical as well... The Church views are clearly stated by Peter.
So false prophets also came from among the people, just as false teachers will be among you, who will introduce heresies of destruction, even denying the Master who bought them bring upon themselves a swift destruction. And many will follow in their sensualities, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. Considering the translation "destructive heresies" is actually not strong enough. The genitive modifier (ἀπωλείας) is not a simple adjective but a genitive of object. These heresies lead to destruction. The teaching itself destroys.
And the general manner that these things occur is also clearly stated in the verses. The future tense verb (παρεισάξουσιν) means “to introduce” with the idea of bringing a new idea in addition to what exists.
Usually these things are slow, similar to how governmental abuse of power is a slow process. (you pick away at rights one by one until none are left)
Anyways, what is the church response to heresy? Well... they call you out about it. I believe the protestant churches failed here.
Well the church holds that the sin of heresy is more severe then murder. (Fear not those who can kill the body... fear... who can destroy the soul)
The pastors responded the worst way possible. They seem to have denied the vision occurred. As I stated before, the visions clearly did occur. But by denying them outright, the pastors firmly slammed the door in Josephs face.
Now... idk if you were a young boy or if you were a girl. But I was a young boy and what do you think the reaction of most young boys who want to tell something very very important to someone else important, but then that person dismisses and denies them?
(shut up little boy, let the adults handle things, etc)
This action definitively slammed the door on any possibility of correcting any possible issues. (in either direction, if Joseph was correct or not)

I'm saying nothing of the sort. I'm saying that many of the miracles associated with Jesus can be easily counterfeited today with modern medical knowledge, therefore it's a mistake to use them as a foundation for your faith and claim that they can't be counterfeited.

If you neglect the second, you are making the argument that Jesus was a charlatan with Sufficiently Advanced Technology (n.b. Clarke). (For that matter, even in the case of the ear example, modern technology isn't at the point you can just pick it up and stick it back on.)

Re: Matthew 6, I've had this conversation in the Creationism chat room also. It's problematic, because if that's the only criteria, then not only are many non-LDS who denounce LDS as heresy true prophets, so was e.g. Buddha.
