@User1234 This chat is still there!
hey how are you?
hi! pretty stressed out from school, but otherwise good!
you?
I'm good too, thanks. Deadline on project. This is my first project , and programming experience
but have this blocked issue
Yesterday I saw one guy gave an wrong answer. I commented, but today answer was deleted
Yeah, I guess he deleted it since it was nothing new for you
So, basically, you can migrate your question again, to Stack Overflow. First I would delete all comments that are not necessary anymore
I just deleted mine
Let me explain again what I want please, might you will have some idea
how it is possible to do in different way
ok?
19:31
ok
The point of application. - It's utility Application. That let's user to select any folder, and to share it (I already now how to do that, programmatically, running bash commands from App)
ok
AFter App share that folders, using SMB. it sends information over Upnp to Server . So server knows new shared folder
This part already works
but now they want, to have some password, and username for all shares. So not everyone can access that shares
So you send to server - PAth, username, and password
hmm and you can't do that by changing some samba configuration on the mac?
I think the best idea, is to create user, add it to Staff group. and enable SMB sharing on that account
19:35
hm
is SSH not an option for you?
To be honest, I don't know what iti is. I'm new in programming
what is SSH?
SSH is the native protocol to connecting to a Unix/Linux machine remotely
but it depends on what kind of share you need
Ok. It's regular folder sharing.
if you need SMB, and the server can't use anything different, then SSH won't work
And server reads that shares
yes I need SMB
19:37
ok then SSH is no option
it doesn't use anything different
I spend lot's of hours to figure out how to create share from terminal, on all 3 previous version of MAC using SMB, now it's work
ok, but why is that not enough?
why can't you use this for sharing?
So now this part, is about permissions. Because they don't want, that everybody have access to that shares, it must be username, password protected
ok, and the simple shares all have no username/password, right?
Do you have Windows computer at home as well?
When you share folder, you list users, that can have access to it. Default is Stuff, Everyobody, and Owner
But still you need to go to Options, and enable Account for SMB
It's like the same thing if you try to connect from windows
19:39
yup, I see
I don't know why MAC did it, why you must enable SMB on that account.
separetly
So you can use that account, username and password, for accessing
ok
probably it's just simple one line command. But this is what I need
the rest is done
hmhm
I am creating user, and adding it to group Staff. After I just need to check that check box for that user from Options SMB
19:41
soo, wait a second
like this?
exactlyyy
ok :)
I'm creating user, and need just to enable that thing
for giving ACcess
I don't know how it is possible to give access without enabling it
It's the same if you try to access from Windows computer to MAC shares
Don't you think it's something really not hard tricky command?
19:44
I don't know much about the internals of OS X programming
it might be possible to do that with some OS X programming API
or even by modifying some file on the system
Oh. beleive there are so not many API on OS X
even Sharing a folder it's big deal
I'm running bash commands from APP to do that
Yes but I can't find what happens when you enable it
yeah, I thought about that too
just watching all files
and see if some file is modified
If you find something PLEASE help me
I did huge work, and can't find this thing. :(
I edited your post … it just needs to be approved
I wasn't really happy, first programming experience, and working on project alone
19:47
included a screenshot, restructured it
hm, don't you have anyone who can help?
anyone in real life?
or are you completely alone for this?
no
I work in company. But I'm alone in this project
And all people from our company have no idea how to do that
Sharing folder was big deal too, but I figured it out
I mean … maybe you can use your own Samba service on the Mac?
And it's like deadline for this project
own Samba service is not good idea in this case too, because on Lion it works differently. and if user try share folder just regularly from System-PRef it will mixed up
Samba now is working fine. Just that checkbox....
I see
Thanks a lot for help, and editing question
It must be approved, after it will be migrated?
19:52
no, my edit will have to be approved
I'd just wait until the bounty's over, then you can migrate it to SO
Ok thanks a lot. How can I migrate it?
just use the "flag" link below your question, and tell a moderator you want it migrated
Can we stay in touch over skype?
(just tell them that it needs more attention and it's a programming related question)
sure :)
19:54
yeah, sure, add me as werner.robitza
just added
