@Charlotte Great museums in Edinburgh and Glasgow
Edinburgh - National Museum of Scotland, Surgeon's Hall Museum, National Galleries, Toy Museum, War Museum, Writer's Museum etc etc
Glasgow - People's Palace, Kelvingrove, Riverside, Burrell Collection, Gallery of Modern Art, St Mungo's Museum
Edinburgh has loads of ancient buildings within walking distance of the castle - the city centre is very small. Glasgow requires a bit more trekking, but has some lovely cathedrals and other buildings
As you are probably aware the UK doesn't have a great culinary reputation - but we take a lot of good ideas from other countries, and align them with Scottish delicacies, so we have places like Arnamurchan in Glasgow, or Amber , La Garrigue or the Gallery in Edinburgh
@Emerson Your peaty whisky preference, means Islay and Skye are definitely good for you, but also Orkney (where I was born) beyond the northern tip of Scotland is worth a visit.
There is a route called the North Coast 500, which takes you round the northern half of Scotland - with a useful base in Inverness.
If you come to Scotland via Glasgow or Edinburgh you can have a loop past/through a lot of whisky areas - Highland, Islay, Speyside that joins the NC500 loop
