Isn't cloud seeding spraying aluminum dust over an area to prevent hale and such?
HAARP is the modification of the ionosphere by shooting different forms of energy at it. Research TESLA for some of the original concepts.
WHAT they spray in the clouds IS a conspiracy theory of sorts. But that is still left for debate.
Tesla was born not too far away from me and is quite well known. Unless you mean Tesla coil?
I just can't wrap my head around the real reasons for HAARPA, conspiracy or not it's still interesting to have a project that's (supposedly) capable of influencing ionosphere globally and so few people really concerned about its (possible) implications
Governments around the world have nuclear weapons capable of wiping out all of humanity.. I think there are bigger things to worry about than HAARP.
I mean, how many studies do we have on implications of a long term exposure to 0.1Hz radio waves? I bet there's none
@TildalWave Obviously not, it's designed to be awesome
20:06
Yes but they'll never use those unless they're absolute morons (not saying they're not) but they are using HAARP all the time, it's easy enough to detect such large electric grid user
@TildalWave The reason why no-one is asking that question is because it can only cost money and cannot bring any proffit
@TildalWave Do you know the size of the antenna you need for .1 Hz?
@this.josh Neah but it wouldn't be difficult to calculate
if any of you are SC2 players, you might wanna hop over to twitch.tv/starcraft
they're about to release the official Vengeance trailer for Heart of the Swarm
just sayin'.
was due to air 10 minutes ago but due to tech problems they're delayed. should be on any minute now :]
@this.josh You need as big of an antenna to cover the whole wavelength, so 'speed of light'*10s
20:10
and now I'll leave you all alone :)
@Polynomial NICE! been trying to get my 1v1 into master league =/
@DigitalFire I'm barely a bronze. I just like playing the game even if I suck.
used to be in silver but I can't be arsed to keep up any more. too many kids playing it 6 hours a day.
@JeffFerland How has it gone? Tweets about it sound very positive
yeah, but once you learn the basic mechanics down... its pretty str8 forward.
I'm not good either, hence why I'm not in the master league. But still hella fun.
I'm good at remembering counters, but I can never keep up with the macro and micro. I like to take my time with things.
20:13
@TildalWave Compare the length to the circumfrence of the earth.
@Polynomial nope postponed until tomorrow
I often get pwned by 2rax pressure or a 4gate.
@this.josh Geez I'm not a calculator LOL
@RoryAlsop Not according to the official SC2 Twitter account. It's just delayed temporarily.
they just posted it on the page
20:15
ohhh!
its starting =D
but difficult to tell whether that was an official comment as the thing is unusable
@this.josh It doesn't really matter, the way HAARP achieves such wavelength is by ionospheric modulation, not by the size of their antennae
It's on now.
Woo, as of yesterday, I've been at my current job for 1 year! I now start accrual of sick & vacation pay.
Bah, I just wanted to see the video. Not a talking discussion on SCII =/
20:16
lol
I think they're delaying on purpose.
Did you buy HOTS?
I've had it pre-ordered since it was announced.
lol. likewise =D
I booked 3 days off work as soon as I knew the release date.
obviously that's moot since I quit my job :P
It does matter the speed of light * 10 = 3,000,000 km. Circumference of the earth = 40,075 km.
20:18
no shit? why is that?
it was shit.
I was coding Delphi, getting paid a pitiful amount, on a product I didn't give a shit about. I just couldn't care less, and it was making me depressed and it started affecting my home life.
that is a .013 wavelength antenna
Yea, your better off then. I'm in a similar situation now.
and now I have a job working as a pentester :)
working at the same place as FreakyClown
But i'm holding off before flipping tables and pouring gasoline on everything cuz i might have a great paying job in the pipeline.
Congratz on the new gig.
20:20
yeah, this new job pays double what the last did :P
moving to London in the next few weeks
moving in with the fiancée too.
damn so an upgrade all around.
yup
the bald guy chatting on the SC2 cast looks like an overlord.
i wonder if they can pwn the pros that play the game..
nope.
they were just saying they find it amazing that people are so good at it, and they can only hope to make the game up to the same standards as the player skills.
trailer about to start! :D
finally...
20:25
@Polynomial damnit - need to reopen that window
I closed it cos I got bored
@Polynomial What u going to do?
dude i can't f-ing wait.... (my race is zerg) ;]
HOLY SHIT.
not impressed by that trailer thou.
that was insane.
20:27
the original i think was better.
ofc
but holy crap
@LucasKauffman Hmm?
so - why did Kerrigan turn into a zerg thing?
originally she was captured.
yeah
she was captured and made part of the swarm. that was the whole thing on the first game.
THEN reiner finds her, they turn her back human.
20:28
well, SC2: Wings of Liberty.
I played through the first 2 SC games - single player I can cope with - but I didn't remember her being zerg-ish
kinda..
but it looks like she's getting turned back into zerg again.
@DigitalFire ahhh - I don't have wings of liberty
@RoryAlsop You've never played SC2?
20:29
@RoryAlsop DEF a must buy.
@Polynomial I have whatever the first 2 are
starcraft and broodwar
that's Starcraft and Starcraft: Broodwar
yeah
SC2 is a whole new game
absolutely cracking game.
i played JulyZerg (Former korean world champ) in broodwar. He destroyed me.
20:30
I just find the learning curve with these is too great from single player to online
@Polynomial The new job :P
I didn't win any games online
Yea its a completely different mechanic.
BUT if you apply the online mechanics to single player... you can beat the game on any mode.
@DigitalFire and reading the online training guides just makes me think - I don't have enough hours in the day to become even half-decent
20:31
@RoryAlsop Yeah, SC2 multiplayer is pretty brutal, but the single player campaign and vs CPU skirmish matches are fun :)
@LucasKauffman Haha sorry I didn't see your comment... nothing against Belgium, just a test LOL... wait I'm removing it :)
plus there are some arcade games online that are easier, like Desert Strike 1338, which only relies on unit counters and you don't actually control your units
@RoryAlsop Yea to get to the TOP level brackets.. its tough. I takes a few months to get decent. I'll give you an example. I game about 2 hours a day almost everyday. I'm still one league under the highest.
@DigitalFire wow
@LucasKauffman The other half of the message was for one particular individual actually, but it's a long story...
20:34
@Polynomial Desert strike is fun.
Sadly, I work 70 hours a week, currently, then am taxi for my kids for another 12 hours or so, then I have the band.... I get probably 4 real hours a week where I can potter on games. So usually it's portal, fallout, crysis, minecraft or something which I can stop and start
BF3, BO2 are my other games.
But yeah you work mad hours... I only work about 50 and no kids... just a needy girlfriend.
@LucasKauffman Grimbergen... is that even anywhere close to where you're from?
@DigitalFire I used to love COD4 and MW2 - with a bunch of lads at ZiiP because about half of them are army/marines/etc so really know their tactics
@TildalWave well the problem with belgium is that everything is close-by compaired to any other country
20:37
@LucasKauffman Not so sure if that's any different to mine LOL
@DigitalFire Yeah, I like how chilled it is. I even win a few games!
@RoryAlsop I used to play CoD4 at least 4 hours a day for ESL
@Polynomial yea I like it cuz i can roll one up and smoke during the game!
plus there's less "OMG U R NOOB HURRY UP DNT GAS WEN BHIND FAG"
Yea COD4 was really fun once I learned how to quickscope.
20:38
@Polynomial So what u doing as new job, don't leave me in suspense D:
heh
@LucasKauffman Pentester at Portcullis in London
@Polynomial Huray!
@LucasKauffman same place that FreakyClown works
Who's FreakyClown ?
oh, I forgot you don't know FC.
20:39
@LucasKauffman Belgium: 30,528 km2 , Slovenia: 20,273 km2 ;) There, I Wiki-ed :(
he's kinda well known in the security community in the UK.
runs a podcast too
@Polynomial ah cool
@Polynomial If you want to game on SC2. Hit me up. Miami:154
@DigitalFire You'll annihilate me in seconds :P
I'm usually lucky to be on two bases by the 12 minute mark.
@Polynomial It's all good. All in good fun.
20:42
if I haven't been 2rax'd or 4gated to death by that point
or cheesed

Q: How can I detect IP address of my computer connected via ethernet?

Andrea MazzocchiI'm using a notebook connected via wireless on my home network: I want to discover, from my laptop, the IP address of my home computer connected via ethernet on the same network. Tools such as ipscan or nmap won't find my home computer because they can only find computers connected via wireless. ...

Burn it.
well, I <3 roaches so by 7 mins or so you'll have about 7-10 knocking on your ramp.
@RoryAlsop It was a pleasant success.
@DigitalFire Yeah, I'd die so quick to that.
20:43
@DigitalFire Hell, I don't even know how I'd counter that as toss. Can't get immortals out by 7 minutes :|
I probably could if I didn't make any zealots, but I'd be too scared of early pressure
@LucasKauffman Y'know, my knee-jerk reaction was to close-vote. But now, I'm not so sure. He's trying to find a specific system on the wired network from the position of an outsider who's obtained access to the wireless network. Seems like a "pentesting for beginners" lesson to me, which is more or less on-topic - isn't it?
Well, as long as you don't fast expand. You can get 1 immortal out by 7 mins. With 3-4 stalkers and a few lots.
@Iszi Doesn't the title negate that option?
@DigitalFire You're clearly faster than me :P
@Polynomial Negate which? I don't follow. Perhaps the title doesn't quite correctly represent the asker's intention, but that's cause for edit - not closure.
teamliquid.net BEST site for learning builds.
20:46
@DigitalFire I wouldn't mind observing one of your 1v1s though.
@Iszi I guess. I meant that the title seemed to negate it being anything but "I wanna know my IP, and here's a bunch of cruft to pad my question out."
wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Main_Page <- sorry this is the site with the builds.
@DigitalFire Yeah, I've seen some of the TLO builds. Problem is I spend ~10 seconds working out which step I'm meant to be doing next.
@Polynomial I've switched to hashcat, as the options are nicer, but my GPU is unsuitable
so by that point I'm at a much higher supply than I should be at and the build falls apart.
as I said, I suck :P
@Tinned_Tuna hashcat still does CPU cracking.
@Polynomial yes, that's why I've switched to hashcat :-p
20:49
heh, I was like that too. But I learned 1-2 main builds first for each race. Then after lots of repetition. You will know what to build up to about 30-40 food count.
much nicer, better docs, and if I find a machine with a suitable GPU, I can probably go for it.
anyways, off I go again
What I need to do is lay off the gaming for awhile and improve my damn security skillset.
Anybody watched Black Mirror? Any good?
@Polynomial Did an overhaul on the question. Let me know what you think.
Got a buddy of mine who has one of his remote office clients that got hit with some malware. Nasty little bugger he says that has taken control of task manager, terminal, etc... even runs on safe mode. Anyone have some good ideas on how to remove it, or atleast trouble shoot it without having to nuke or have the client ship the workstation?
21:00
@DigitalFire Nope. Nuke.
They don't say "It's the only way..." for nothing.
@DigitalFire The machine has been marked with the Number of the Beast. These things don't wear off by themselves. Throw it into Gehinnom, where it belongs.
lol. oh man, its random-ware. I believe this is definitively a sacrifice to the internets.
Know what would be amusing to have? An edit history view that only shows the parts of the post that the diff says stayed the same - that is, only the stuff not normally highlighted in red or green by the comparison view.

@DigitalFire and the only way to make sure it stays clean is to charge shitloads for your services ;)

21:08
@TildalWave Can you put a price on end-user stupidity?
@TildalWave Cynical, but so true.
Example: The overhaul I just did would end up something like this...
> I'm on my home network my the my connected via on the network. Tools such as ipscan or nmap only find wireless. I know I to the and the of, but to I my laptop my? I'm an just the all I know is the address.
@DigitalFire Easily, question is could they afford it
21:20
@Iszi OP now mentioned he's on Ubuntu so maybe add that tag also?
@TildalWave The Q is already pushing the tag limit. I say leave it for now.
@Iszi Sure, if anyone's gonna have a go with an answer then they'd read the comments 1st anyway... BTW I think your edit makes a lot more sense than the original question
@TildalWave Added it into the Q, but no retag.
@TildalWave Reading comments before answering ? But in what fantasy land do you live ?
3
@ThomasPornin Not sure, I just added a comment not reading the whole question :))) Again!!!
@Iszi ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1628099 the follow-up OP's comment there is legendary :)
21:33
@TildalWave wauw, he's like a person for which Mac is made
Dammit, I have again answered a question with the wrong bear.
@ThomasPornin I don't get it.
@Iszi Thomas suffers multi-bear disorder, but ssshhhht ;)
3
21:50
@Iszi Bear #1 is currently working on his next gold badge, the one for the "hash" tag. I need to answer 200 questions for that. If I answer with Bear #2, I am not making progress.
@TildalWave What would we become without Google Images ?
@ThomasPornin iirc there must be 1000 questions in the tag to unlock the badge
@Gilles It is 100, not 1000.
I have searched and tested it quite thoroughly. This will not be my first tag-specific gold badge.
When there are 100 questions for a tag, all badges for that tag are unlocked (but to get the gold, you need to answer 200 questions, so 200 questions must exist for that tag)
@ThomasPornin I found a lot of cute photos with Google Images. Especially when I removed the Safe Search filter ;)
21:56
Where's the pack?
@ThomasPornin ah, right
@ThomasPornin nor mine (but I think I only have those on U&L)
fun fact: on U&L, there is one tag badge that I don't have but somebody else has
@Gilles To get a tag badge, you must answer at least N questions and have accumulated 5*N upvotes on answers with that tag. N = 20, 80 or 200, for bronze, silver or gold.
@ThomasPornin s/upvotes/score/
@Gilles I mean, 5*N acts of upvoting.
In my case, the number of answers is the bottleneck, not the upvotes.
@ThomasPornin I think it's score (upvotes-downvotes)
22:00
@Gilles Ah, maybe. I don't get downvoted often (and that's pretty generic I think)
This is what it says on tag badges: Earned 1000 upvotes for at least 200 answers in the [tag] tag
@TildalWave but then below it says “total score of X”
Clearly we must downvote Thomas's answers, for science
@Gilles I can't my profile says I'm an animal & beer lover :P
22:21
@TildalWave So you're an alcoholic zoophile?
@Polynomial Well, I used to be a volunteer for animal welfare projects in Romania for good 3 years, so the 'alcoholic' part is kinda obvious, or at least it used to be. But I don't really like to joke about it, if you get my meaning ;)
*nods*
You're from UK... that horse meat you were eating in your lasagnas and stuff is for example exactly what we tried to stop,... sad shit
Not sure if you'd like to know anything more, not really sure I wanna talk about it either, so I'll just continue watching Black Mirror... still didn't decide if it's any good, though :)

Q: Why Nmap fragmented scan is only working on Backtrack?

Vangelis TasoulasI spent quite a few hours today trying to capture and study some fragmented IPv4 packets using Wireshark and Nmap security scanner. I tried a couple of different OS' (Ubuntu and Debian) but to my surprise, Wireshark would only capture normal packets. After launching the same Nmap scan from a Ba...

for all you nmap experts
Interesting. I'd guess he's right about a setting being responsible - I'd bet the network stack is automatically compacting the fragmented packets on the way out for "normal" distros.
@Gilles Could be access related, I know it sounds stupid to ask but is he rooted on Ubuntu/Debian?
@TildalWave don't ask me, ask the OP
@Gilles heh I know but I'm not even registered on U&L
@TildalWave it takes all of what, 30 seconds?
I'm registered on all SE sites
23:11
@Gilles OK OK let me appear the stupid one, huh? I'm coming over LOL
@Polynomial if you tell me how to generate fragmented packets on my router (Linux 2.4, wrt distro), I'll test it
@Gilles google for "hping fragment"
@Polynomial -sh: hping: not found
oh, stupid me, I could test with localhost
@Gilles apt-get install, gcc, etc. python could also do that.
localhost. yup.
except would it ever fragment on localhost?
@JeffFerland > Linux 2.4, wrt distro
23:15
static compilation? shrug
@JeffFerland I don't have a mips toolchain and installing one is too much work
not likely, but just for trial: tcprelay?
I'm guessing his NIC is responsible actually.
reduce MTU
If he's running BT5 in a VM and it works, but running Ubuntu/Debian on a physical box, that makes sense.
the NIC probably reassembles based on its internal MTU.
