@Iszi I agree that the timeliness issue needs to be addressed. But there are aspects of the topic (seen in the answers) that stand the test of time. E.g. What should folks with SecurID do? They can't rely on RSA to answer that question. Having even speculation in a good community like this is very useful. And the broader questions about the dangers of proprietary schemes really deserve highlighting based on this incident.

hey all
Has anyone heard of OSSTMM has a security assessment framework and have they used it / have some feedback?

Our community team has been growing by leaps and bounds:

We’re serious about building community — and that means having a full time team dedicated to you. The community team participates alongside everyone else to help come up with ways to for us, and our Q&A software, to serve our community better.

I’m pleased to announce that, under the leadership of Robert Cartaino, we’re adding a fourth member to the community team: Josh Heyer, aka Shog9, from Colorado.

Josh will be an adjunct community coordinator working part time with the rest of the community team. …

Does this seem obvious to anyone else? I feel like I'm confused about what he's asking.

Q: When you make a revision of rules on a firewall, how do you add credibility to your final consideration ?

boosWhat sources do you use to add credibility to your work after an audit of firewall rule-set ? What sources do you use to arguments your consideration ?

Morning Sunshine
@packs Ummm... Huh?
So I guess I'm not alone.
Indeed, you're not.

Wow, this could either be a really interesting discussion, or just about the most immense pile of flamebait I've seen in a long time

Q: In D&D 4E, can a changeling change its biological sex?

Caden Raikoujin IyoriSimply put, can a Changeling change its sex... physically? Specifically, I had an incident where a female PC tried to change into a male but I told her that a Changling can't change 'reproductive organs'. Just wondering if I was wrong at that point.

Did privilege levels change? I can't edit a tag wiki that I created in the first place.... "Editing tag wiki for authentication: You do not yet have tag wiki edit privileges. Your edit will be placed in a queue until it is peer reviewed."
I dunno
Oh, editing tag wikis are much higher priv than editing posts
Which you have
hm
Well, in order to edit all tag wikis you must be a trusted user.
The tag wiki editing is...weird to say the least.
You have to have so much rep in that tag. And the scaling and order of earned privs on beta sites doesn't really match up to the real ones.
Have you tried approving your edit?
I'm also the top answerer for all time on this tag... security.stackexchange.com/privileges/approve-tag-wiki-edits
@packs I don't see an option to do that...
I honestly haven't been able to figure out how the tag wiki edits work.
I've attempted edits on tags where I am in the top 20, but it didn't go through, etc.
I gave up trying to understand it until I hit the mod-tools.
Which, you should have, so it shouldn't matter.
Adding the trusted user privs seemed to make all of that a little weirder.
15:56
Well, I just checked for myself. I am the top user in the [forensics] tag and just submitted a wiki for it.
Much like you, I was told it is put on the approval queueueueueue.
What do you see when you go there?
We'll continue this when I return from lunch.
16:08
@packs Well, I was allowed to approve it, and did, and it said I did approve it. But I still don't see it. And I see "(Note that if you have less than 4000 reputation, your tag wiki will be peer reviewed before it is published.)"
@packs Do you have a ref on this?

Q: No longer able to edit tag wikis

nealmcbGiven the new tags page, tag wikis are yet more valuable and important. But there has been a regression in our ability to edit them. I created the authentication tag wiki a while ago, and am still the top answerer: http://security.stackexchange.com/tags/authentication/topusers I just tried to ...

17:09
No, I don't have any references w.r.t. trusted user privs, it's all gut feel.
I just read your question.
It seems like they completely changed the way tag wiki edits work now.
You either
1) Must be a trusted user (4k rep on beta site or 20k rep on full)
2) Submit the wiki and have it approved
I'll bet that if I had approval rights I could go in and approve your edit to the authentication tag.
So, in effect, they just increased the bar for unilateral edits.
Also, I received 4 total rep for that edit. 2 for the summary, and 2 for the full entry. So they must be handled as two separate entities for approvals
Which would explain the weirdness you said you saw
17:46
@packs Sounds like a good assessment. But no publicity?
@nealmcb When have you known SEI to publicize or otherwise make easily-findable any of the really useful information?
@Iszi Seems rather extreme....
@nealmcb Perhaps, but there's just a lot of very useful and interesting stuff that they leave hidden in various nooks and crannies and it really annoys the hell out of me.
18:01
@Iszi And they do a huge amount of great work much of which is impressively documented. I find it more fun to help them out.
@packs It is an interesting question. Can they change their appearance to match a given gender? Absolutely. Can they change their gender for actual, reproductive purposes? DM's call, but I'd rule "No". They might be physically compatible for the species' mating ritual (provided there's no special biochemical reactions required) but they would be essentially sterile.
@Iszi I would have to read more about changlings to figure it out. Something like an old fashioned Ecology article would probably be enough.
I would probably go along with that, would keep the game moving and not necessarily break anyone.
Honestly, I would probably put a pin in it and chat with the person outside the game session to figure out what they're they're trying to get out of it.
If it was some character development thing that sounds really cool, then sure, we'll figure something out.
Maybe require some kind of magical assistance. Little blue potion?
@packs Yeah, that would definitely be in order. I'd also even consider going so far as to make the change permanent - especially if they're filling the role of a typical female in conception.
We don't play a heavy RP game, but I definitely want people to get involved in their characters. If that's what it takes, well, so long as it doesn't break anything else sure!
18:24
I don't act things out, or talk in voices, but I do sure as hell enjoy putting myself into the head of my character when making choices.
