00:01
are we in a tech bubble?
@belkarx no, I'm buying a cheap place ._.
Forgive my ignorance but how is that related?
00:14
lol
Oh
talking about tech bubbles and expensive purchases...
@belkarx yes and no
00:55
@J-- Am I the only one who can maintain conversation for like 3-5 mins max?
Am I the only one that can talk to people for hours if they're interesting? Looks like you all are vaguely<->notably antisocial
@belkarx I for one am extremely antisocial
Any idea as to why?
not really :) I like to believe it is how I am hardwired
00:59
Do you view it as a flaw or benefit
Well, ultimately, it is a flaw. Doesn't matter how I view it. Not being able to talk to people hurts you almost everywhere in life
Is it a flaw you plan to try to remedy
No idea how to remedy :P
Talk to interesting people about things you enjoy?
I can do that on the internet
01:03
Do it IRL as well until you get comfortable?
@JourneymanGeek Oh, talking on the internet isn't a problem :D
Depends on why you're antisocial
"I'm awkward and can't keep a conversation going" is different from "I hate people"
@belkarx If only interesting people were interested in conversing with me... :)
@belkarx "I'm awkward and can't keep a conversation going and sometimes I hate people too."
@nobody make yourself seem interesting
or similar to them
hey @MechMK1
Are you by chance not antisocial
I think mech's more antisocial than any of us
01:09
Certainly a possibility
Anyway @nobody go for amplifying the parts of yourself that are similar to them, it's easier (takes less planning) than being interesting
He's probably less than most of us. Or at least that's the way he portrays himself
>last talked 18d ago
/shrug
@belkarx Does that sound easy to you? (Honest question, I want to know how it is for a social person)
@belkarx Won't talk for another 11 or 12 days...
I'm an odd sample of "a social person" because I think about it programmatically and in a slightly machiavellian manner. But yes. It becomes quite simple with practice
I'm also young enough to get away with cheekiness and that will become a detrimental part of my personality in the near future so we'll see how that goes
Programmatically?
01:14
Same thoughtpattern with everyone. Broadly "What do I want here" then "how precisely can I achieve that"
Usually when I talk to people it's to get opinions. I don't talk to talk
well, opinions, advice, knowledge, etc
But rarely "how are you" proceeds to discuss nothing "ok bye"
And you'll find that listening is much more useful than talking (ha beat me to it :))
So, basically, you let the other person do the talking
Yes
You drive the conversation if you want something from them. But they are the ones talking about themselves (yay validation for them, someone cares)
For even more likability and being pleasurable to talk to, smile, compliment them, and use their name (credit to How to Win Friends and Influence People)
@belkarx I can sometimes pull that off, but not for very long. 15-20 mins max. Maybe its just that my interests are few and rarely align with those of the people around me.
There are some more-or-less universal interests with people worth talking to. You can always talk philosophy/society/politics/economics
@belkarx Problem in the nutshell. I hate all of those
01:21
Okay then ask them about their passions. Maybe you'll learn something
@nobody And out of curiosity why do you hate them?
Like why the hell do I care what the government is doing and how corrupt it is when I have next to no influence over them?
Because it affects your life
Recession will affect your life. Russo-Ukrainian war will as well. Various acts passed will. it's not useless to know about current events
Discussion with people gives you often interesting perspectives and new knowledge
@belkarx Not useless to know, but useless to discuss armchair theories about how everything could have been handled better
Also, politics (and political discussion) in my country is a shitshow
Where are you based (if you don't mind me asking)?
Sorry can't say :)
Damn, Tor my particular Tor circuit is was slow...
01:28
Alright privacy protection it is
Though that might imply you aren't in one of the larger countries
I'm from a third world country, although I don't live there all the time. That's all I will say publicly.
do you have a gpg key
I can make one...
@nobody Is encrypted private enough for you? (unless you don't want to say at all which is fully understandable)
Oh, I don't want to say. No point in telling one person but not the rest :-)
01:38
Fair
Did anyone get anywhere with making a non-SE affiliated chatroom (IRC or smth) for this group

5 hours later…
06:38
Anyone need a Windows zero day here? doublepulsar.com/…
07:35
If it's published, it's not a 0 day anymore.
08:07
Oh right :)
Unpatched vuln. What's the cool term for it?
09:06
@J-- Huh? Where?
@J-- Ok, so for idiots like me, how do you join?
Never used IRC
@J-- Which one do you recommend?
That's what I used last I was on IRC
Its basically the 'modern' version of xchat
@JourneymanGeek Which one? :)
09:33
Ok, weechat isn't for me, lemme try hexchat
Wait, is IRC still used today other than for C&C?
10:10
I used to talk on IRC a while ago, my city had a server and it was full of people
I got there one of those days, and there were only spam bots on all channels, no live people
"ow, 20 years have passed, it explains everything..."
@nobody wow, that's huge! you can trigger it using .lnk too!
10:49
@A.Hersean I used to be in a lot of small community chats
It worked very well for that
now is.. uh... too many damned systems

1 hour later…
12:06
yes... irc, slack, teams, discord, dozens of chat services, telegram, whatsapp...
@ThoriumBR Yeah, let me come up with one solution to rule them all...
I remember back in college when you had aim, icq, msn, y! and had 4 clients... then trillian came around integrating all of them in one. later came miranda im, and I loved it. it was full of integrations and plugins and was small and modularized
12:58
pidgin was my goto for combining IM services
13:10
pidgin was a nice one too... it's still working but fewer people are using icq now...
yeah for sure
I used IRC back in the day to find CS 1.6 scrims when I played competitively
mIRC ftw
I used mIRC too
video training with lots of text and 360p max quality aren't that informative...

3 hours later…
16:21
Congrats
