So you mean to tell me, not only is GeoHot a fantastic CTF player.
Anonymous
Was hired by project zero to make a system for them personally.
Anonymous
He also makes music?
Anonymous
Is there anything he cannot do?
Anonymous
Its actually pretty good too. I don't like alt music that much but this is pretty okay.
11:43
@JsupportsPalestine There are some people in this world that can do everything. They're balanced out by people like me who can do nothing.
you appear to be able to communicate
so that's one thing you've got going for you.
@djsmiley2kStaysInside not in real life though :(
12:06
pffft
who wan'ts to communicate face to face, urgh
I'm currently in here 'hiding from the kids' ;)
12:18
@JsupportsPalestine I still like a nice Glenlivet
And the bottle is that way up to attach to an optic

1 hour later…
Anonymous
13:30
@RoryAlsop Heh, I was kidding :D But yeah, I also like Glenlivet a lot.
Anonymous
I only really like Speyside, honestly... I am open to try other regions, in-fact, every time I go to a hotel or new bar I do.
Anonymous
But I'll only ever personally buy a Speyside for home really.
Anonymous
@nobody Hmm, quite. He does seem to be good at an awful lot of things.
Anonymous
@djsmiley2kStaysInside +1
Anonymous
Although, my peasant joke was on me because I mostly drink macallan myself..
Anonymous
13:33
I do dislike their prices rising year by year though... It is pretty nasty.
most prices of most things, rise year by year tho
Anonymous
Well, let me make it a bit clearer.
Anonymous
In 2018 a bottle of Macallan 18 was £200.
Anonymous
In 2021 a bottle of Macallan 18 is £350.
Anonymous
That isn't inflation, its greed.
Anonymous
13:38
Now, if you think that is just specific to that bottle, it isn't. In-fact, almost every bottle they sell, including their sub £50 bottles are rising at the same rate.
Anonymous
Hilariously, before 2018 a bottle of Macallan 18 was sub £150. It just keeps going up.
Anonymous
Other whisky brands do increase their prices but no where near the percentages that Macallan do or are.
Anonymous
Another example, a Macallan 25 is £1800 currently.
Anonymous
A Glenlivet 25 is £350.
Anonymous
They both use sherry casks.
Anonymous
13:40
They are both aged the exact same number of years.
Anonymous
They are both speyside.
Anonymous
The only differences are A. Macallan claim to use premium ingredients (I actually think this is true it often tastes more complex and refined) and B. macallan is no longer a scotch brand but a luxury brand.
Anonymous
The rate at which they have increased their prices is disproportionate to the rest of the industry and the only factor is the fact that Macallan have very much become a mainstream brand, unlike the rest of the scotch brands which the majority of folk don't pay attention to.
Anonymous
I have nothing wrong with price increases, I do have a problem with their almost 50% increases per year.
Anonymous
It's a shame but it happens in all industries.
Anonymous
13:46
They have become the poster child for the elite
Anonymous
Much like what happened to rolex
Anonymous
They became the poster child for billionaires and now ordinary watches which have pretty bad movements in them are worth 25x more than what they were before
14:05
@JsupportsPalestine oooof, yeah that's taking it a bit fare.
Is it a production issue?
Anonymous
Well, there is some element of production costs increasing for sure.
Anonymous
They are selling way more bottles now than they ever sold before since the whole mainstream thing. But that doesn't equate to near 50% increases each year, especially not even in their cheaper ranges...
Anonymous
It just seems to me that they're taking full advantage of the whole popularity thing. As with nice cars, nice watches, etc. They become a status symbol for the rich and then those companies which make those things know they can charge more.
Anonymous
Macallan has always been an expensive scotch brand, so I am not going to suggest they were not. But they also sold affordable bottles to and now they do not the only thing which coincides with that is just how mainstream they've become in the last 3-4 years.
Anonymous
When you look at the prices of their direct competition then you can see clearly that someone is telling lies. And that is Macallan, they are telling lies. Their ingredients aren't 3.5x times more expensive than Glenlivets. I don't buy it at all. That comparison between Glenlivet and Macallan is where you can really tell someone is fibbing.
Anonymous
14:10
£1800 vs £350 for a very similar bottle of scotch.
Anonymous
I've had both of those bottles in-fact, Macallan 25 and Glenlivet 25, they are very, very similar. Both fantastic scotch. But the Macallan 25 is not over 3.5x the cost, not a chance in hell.
Anonymous
In other news, I am so close to this ASLR bypass I can literally see it. I just can't get it working.
Anonymous
So annoying.
14:26
Yeah, I didn't actually expect it was a case of such high demand, just wondered
Anonymous
Oh no, it is absolutely a fair point.
Anonymous
Whether I like it or not, high demand always means higher prices. That's just basic economics and I am okay with that. And I am also okay with paying more for a better product (better ingredients, etc) but what I really despise is unjustified increases. Especially when they match up so perfectly to the brands mainstream success. It is clear that their customer base includes a lot of very wealthy people and year on year Macallan has become the Scotch of the elite.
Anonymous
I think that the elite ruin a lot of things like this. They need to show off their wealth so they become attached to brands and then those brands change their entire business model to suit those elite people, forgetting about all their previous customers. This happened with a lot of watch brands, with car manufactures, even computer equipment. It is lunacy. But I am the one who is wrong.
Anonymous
Because people are willing to pay these prices, so clearly I am the one with the problem. That's how capitalism sees it so.
Such is life
the only time i really have a problem, is when it's something no one else can create... (epipens...)
Anonymous
14:33
Well, I have a problem with it in both cases but you're quite right that is way more of an issue than the price of scotch... And that is absolutely indefensible, in your example. Anyone who defends that is an actual fucking moron with no regard for human life or anything except their bank account.
oh yeah, I don't like it
but I'm not going to spend any time on it
Anonymous
Sadly, I like scotch...
Anonymous
I just try my best not to contribute to this bullshit.
Anonymous
But a lot of other cases where I actively go out of my way to avoid contributing to it.
@JsupportsPalestine You can just flood the challenge with electricity. I heard that works every time.
Anonymous
14:37
@nobody Heh.
Anonymous
Well, there is a leaking issue but I can't leak the bytes I need to just yet.
Anonymous
You know when you just look at something and feel like you're getting closer but then it takes another 20 hours?
Anonymous
That's this entire subject.
Anonymous
"oh i get it"
Anonymous
"wait... no i dont"
Anonymous
14:41
"oh now i do"
Anonymous
"wait... im wrong again fuck"
Anonymous
^ binex 101.
18:56
I like burbon and rum :D
bit cheaper at least
It just seems that scotch has such a small number of suppliers
they can basically do what they want
Compared to say, Whisk(e)Y
Or rum, gin, etc.
19:54
So I'm wondering...
Why would people from the NSA need to come to Sec.SE to test the viability of their ideas?
Doesn't the NSA have far better experts than could be expected here?
Anonymous
20:46
@nobody >
I'm a self taught coder who joined the military and ended up working within the NSA.
Anonymous
well, he can fuck off back there then.
Anonymous
NSA, yuck.
21:04
Yeah NSA == disgusting.
That said, I'd love NSA spending all their budget on this shit
Not gonna get anything, and won't have budget for offense left :)

3 hours later…
23:44
@JsupportsPalestine I kinda want one of these twitter.com/delsharkart/status/1398674123694350338
