When doing THM boxes, an nmap scan with default ports takes a few minutes, but 2-3 hours with -p-. My internet is rather slow & unstable so being slow is understandable but that's a huge difference. Is it normal?

@ConorMancone That's why I hate when people are like "But my VPN says they're logless!"
Sure, they can say a lot of things. They can say they'd never sell your data, they'd never spy on you, they'd never keep logs - how can you know?
@JohnZhau For a box, -p- is usually not necessary. When I do a pentest, I usually only do -p- if I feel like there may be dealing with a "fat server", e.g. a server that has tons of services running on it. Otherwise, I just stick with the default ports

First day of work after 2 weeks of vacation and I'm already considering a toaster bath. I love my job :D
atleast you have work bro.
lmao
people getting fired left and right
I know, I'm thankful that COVID affected me as little as it did
cheers
I hope you're doing fine
I know a lot of people suffered during the crisis
same old.
yeah covid has been tough
09:00
I know people who were affected in different ways. Some lost their job, some were overjoyed to basically have 2 months of holidays for 80% pay, some didn't change at all
09:31
Also, song of the day to pump you up for the weekday:
09:57
noice
It's really a nice track. Simple, but really nice

Q: Elastic Search indexes gets deleted frequently

Pramod ShashidharaHello Elastic Search Experts, I'm running an elastic search for a personal project on google-cloud and I use as a search index for my application. From the last 3 days, indexes are getting deleted mysteriously. I have no clue why, I looked at all my code for any delete index calls, also looked at...

@ConorMancone :D
I heard it.Seems nice.
@MechMK1 hahahahahhaha.
Only way they will learn
yap.someone that is chaotic good did it.
True. And everyone is like "But bwuhuhu, now we can't analyze leaks"
DBAs don't care about leaks, they care about availability
10:08
well america seems all fucked up on twitter
:D
How so?
riots.
extreme political views
hating president
looting
police brutality
10:19
Well, the US have ignored their race problem for far too long and now it's biting them in the ass
The thing is, setting your profile picture to a black square and posting #BLM on Twitter won't fix anything
Calling Donald Trump a Nazi on Twitter won't fix anything
Burning down an Apple Store and looting a new Macbook won't fix anything
Pointing a gun at a cop and then being surprised when you get shot won't fix anything.
Calling people racists for criticizing those who burn down other people's livelihoods won't fix anything
If you look at people and groups who are successful in the US, you see that almost all of them integrated into white culture. The overwhelming majority of asian-americans speak like whites, act like whites, dress like whites.

Meanwhile, if you look at the black and the latino community, a big chunk of them reject white america, saying they're different. And as a result, they don't speak like whites, they don't act like whites, they don't dress like whites. Suddenly, they're far less successful.

hmmmm
11:24
@MechMK1 oh man! I always considered myself a bit borderline between neutral good and lawful good, but considering how hilarious and awesome I find this, I may be edging towards lawful good/chaotic good as I get older...
> Well, the US have ignored their race problem for far too long and now it's biting them in the ass

Only about 200 years. :D
@MechMK1 only that that can also mean if you weren't fitting in in white culture, you couldn't succeed
and no, lots of asian communities maintain their individuality and cultural distinctiveness.
y'all just don't notice it
@JourneymanGeek They do indeed, but they also adapt to white culture just as well.
@ConorMancone I always knew you were a shitposter at heart, just like me :D
@MechMK1 ... so maybe white culture and its unwillingness to adapt to others is the problem ...
Just saying ;D
Not if whites are the majority.
even when they weren't they did that
Look at south africa and India.
11:31
Superiority through conquest.
If you want me to adapt, make me.
Ah, see
that's basically racist :D
How so? The winner takes it all
There is no denying that the british with machine guns were superior in firepower to native africans who had hide shields and spears
do they? The south lost. They never got over it. Slavery ended, white folks never got over it...
y'all might just be sore losers.
well not all
some of you.
I'm not part of the south US. I don't care that they lost the civil war
11:32
That's their problem
bunch of black folks got murdered
even in their beds
And the countless blacks they have in the US now is their problem too
Slavery wasn't worth it for the US
While ghandian civil disobediance is a nice idea...
@MechMK1 gee. If only people didn't get moved from their homes....
I never said it was a good idea to do so
For all I care, if african-americans wanted to relocate to africa, I'd support it
like the irish, east europeans, probably all those poor folks who were transported...
11:34
After all, then they wouldn't had to suffer from Trumps tyrannical oppression
(cause jokes about australia all being convincts..)
hell. we wouldn't have modern america if y'all didn't keep getting lost
I wonder, honestly, if all african-americans would move to africa, if they'd be better off or not
they have been here for hundreds of years
their old culture has been wiped out cause of cultural genocide
they're as american as anyone now
How many african-americans would answer the question "Do you consider yourself an american?" with Yes
also
Liberia ( (listen)), officially the Republic of Liberia, is a country on the West African coast. It is bordered by Sierra Leone to its northwest, Guinea to its north, Ivory Coast to its east, and the Atlantic Ocean to its south-southwest. It has a population of around 5 million and covers an area of 111,369 square kilometres (43,000 sq mi). English is the official language, but over 20 indigenous languages are spoken, representing the numerous ethnic groups who make up more than 95% of the population. The country's capital and largest city is Monrovia. Liberia began as a settlement of the American...
is the result of american blacks going back to africa and starting a country
11:38
> "83% of the population living below the international poverty line as of 2015"
That went remarkably well
On the other hand
The Tulsa race massacre (also called the Tulsa race riot, the Greenwood Massacre, or the Black Wall Street Massacre) took place on May 31 and June 1, 1921, when mobs of white residents, many of them deputized and given weapons by city officials, attacked black residents and businesses of the Greenwood District in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It has been called "the single worst incident of racial violence in American history." The attack, carried out on the ground and from private aircraft, destroyed more than 35 square blocks of the district—at that time the wealthiest black community in the United States...
this is a white american reaction to a sucessful black community.
SO... uh...
maybe the problem is actually with some white americans being racist.
And that relates to Liberia how?
Or actually realise that parts of society are broken...
I am in no way denying that they're not
and not go "y'all can go back to the homes you have never known if you don't like it here"
11:40
The US as a whole are beyond fucked
12:19
@MechMK1 I'm definitely getting there :)
On a slightly different (but probably still controversial) note, I don't think that the inherent problem we are dealing with in the US is racism, but "culturalism". As discussed above, overall, african americans and "white" america do have two completely different cultures. There are exceptions of course, and even "white" america itself has its own different "cultures" that it is split into.
By and large though the differences between african-american and white-american (is that a phrase?) culture are much larger than the differences between "most" of the cultures in white america. These cultural differences set us apart far more than race does
And I think it is these cultural differences that people "respond" to rather than differences in race.
Although the distinction there is small enough to be meaningless in most cases, since the connection between race and culture here is so strong. However, it makes a difference in the long term because cultures are much harder to mix than race is. As long as african and white americans continue to live in physically separate areas and live in very different ways, they will continue to have distinct cultures that will continue to separate them
and cause them to live in different areas and different ways.
AKA I think that a cultural fusion is the only way to "solve" race inequality in the long term, but this will never happen, and moreover I suspect that that suggestion would be considered racist these days, so it definitely won't happen...
On a different-different note, I still have trouble with the phrase "african-american". I have had too many black-but-Caribbean friends who consider themselves not in the least bit african. Still, I'm pretty sure that "black" is not the preference anymore
@ConorMancone we have at least 4 main cultures in SG, none of whom have much commonality... and we do ok :D
12:36
@ConorMancone I said African-American because it's the least offensive term that came to my mind
@MechMK1 Yeah, you're fine - that's the only term that I know to use as well. It just seems weird when I say it, for the above reason
@ConorMancone In Austria, the terms "black" or "coloured" are common still. Older folks still use the term "Neger", which is the german equivalent to "Negro", but it has become frowned upon for being too similar to the word "Nigger"
I've never heard terms like "Austro-African", "of african descent" or "Person of Colour" being used here
Oh yeah, "person of color". That's probably the least-offensive way to say it these days (although it still seems strange to me). Note the use of "person-first" language.
I would never refer to myself as "Person who is white" or "Person with a penis".
I'm a white man, that's who I am.
I can't speak for other people, but I knew two blind people and they always used language like "I'm blind" and not "I'm a person who is blind"
So at least those two individuals didn't seem to have a problem with it
13:17
The funny thing is that black people aren't really RGB #000
white people aren't RGB #FFF either
There are some pretty pretty dark people out there, who would get close to being labelled "black"
@MechMK1 nope you dont want that at all.
@VipulNair It's how things have always been up until recently
Fear of the dark, fear of the dark
Anyway, I keep getting notifications here about flagged messages in other chat rooms I've never been to. Is this a bug or a feature?
i know, which is why i am saying, you dont want to tell the other side,go ahead, pick up arms and make me
@reed maybe you are not leaving the room?
13:23
@VipulNair no, I mean, flagged messages in chats like Math or Raspberry Pi, I've never been there, didn't even know they existed, and I have no idea who the guys there are and what they are talking about
no idea then,i dont get such notification or maybe i dont know where such notification even is
it appears next to the text box where I'm typing, like a small circle with a number inside (1)
@reed It's a feature
Funny thing is, when I upset someone and they start mass-flagging me, I see my own messages being flagged :D
why cant i see it?do i need more points?
damn
13:44
It's very random. Ironically I just saw one for the first time in weeks
(hmmm... very suspicious... maybe stackoverflow is secretly listening on our conversation!!!!)
(or maybe @MechMK1's computer is hacked. Or someone here is a plant!)
@MechMK1 lol, do you have the option to mark it as "Okay"?
14:28
@VipulNair I think you need 10k rep on one site. Stack Overflow might not count because that's a different domain (chat.stackoverflow.com), but I'm not sure.
@ConorMancone No, I get the error that I can't counterflag my own messagws
I guess they sort of took it into consideration then
@ConorMancone I know my computer is hacked because three weeks ago I listened to Stairway to Heaven and today I saw a car drive by with a Led Zeppelin sticker. I'm sure they hacked into my computer to threaten me
@FireQuacker Most likely someone in backend made a check that you can't counterflag your own messages and frontend didn't bother
