If my understanding of GPS is correct, turning on GPS on my phone would just let the phone calculate my position from received signal without actively sending out anything. Therefore, turning on the phone's GPS should have no security risk, assuming the phone itself is not compromised. Is that correct?

however... all smart phones I have used also then query map data etc

Yes, the reason why we disable location services is that our OS doesn't broadcast the location to a multitude of services

I find it weird...a Macbook Air costs 1849 USD (~1660 EUR) in the US store, but costs 2079 EUR in the austrian store. That's like 400 € difference
Is that all taxes? Or are importers just adding that much on top?
