@Arminius great write-up
I feel like I'm understanding it although I can hardly spell "JavaScript"
08:03
although it's kind of a bad timeframe for the europeans
08:29
Well, it's not that bad
Anonymous
Morning.
Anonymous
How is everyone?
Tired. What about you?
super tired, super busy
kind of a bad combination
Anonymous
Great so we're all tired!
08:36
were you able to wrap your head around that AES challenge?
Anonymous
At least I am not the only one, which reminds me - I need to go to the doctor about that, still...
Anonymous
And no, I've not yet. I am struggling to understand the writeups, I get the POA but I don't understand how they actual leveraged that/what code they wrote to leverage it and get the flag :p
yeah, that's kind of my problem as well. I get the logic behind it, but I don't understand the code
Anonymous
But maybe it's just me being dense and needing to do some more research
you really have to stop it with the "me being dense"
Anonymous
08:38
Why? :O
you know who's annoying? people who cannot admit that they do not know something
Anonymous
That is admitting me not knowing, is it not? :o
you know who's also annoying? people who say they don't know anything all the time :P
Anonymous
Well, I can't help it >.< I just say things that come into my head, lol.
there's a difference between not knowing something specifically and being "dense" in general
Anonymous
08:40
welps
you are not dense
okay?
okay.
god, I'm tired.
Anonymous
Well, just because I say something it doesn't mean I actually believe it to be true.
Anonymous
It's just a turn of phrase. But, okay.
Anonymous
I don't know, I'm used to making fun of myself now so I just continue as is.
> HumanCTF 13 Oct., 01:00 UTC — 13 Oct. 2018, 08:00 UTC
Wow.
08:45
okay?
7 hour ctf
Anonymous
O.o
why not
This one is bad for Europeans
Anonymous
Indeed.
Anonymous
I could swap my sleep schedule for that day though.
Anonymous
08:48
Oh. It's on a weekday.
Anonymous
I can't lol.
Hum, I've been logged out from the main site
Am I hacked????
Anonymous
09:09
lol.
09:47
You're now J.J. :o
I'm not logged out, so doesn't seem like a site-wide thing @BenoitEsnard
Yeah, my cookie will expire again on April 1st
I guess I've last logged in 6 months ago
Anonymous
10:41
Yes, I decided to abbreviate my name.
Anonymous
Even though most people already know what my name is.
11:14
Your name is teen. Seven teen.
Anonymous
11:26
lol.
Anonymous
But soon my name will be - teen. Eight teen.
Anonymous
;)
I can't wait for that day.
Anonymous
Why?
Anonymous
It's not that exciting.
11:31
We will have a new meme!
Everyone loves memes.
Anonymous
It's a Sunday as well, which is gross. Imagine having your birthday on a Sunday...
Anonymous
That is true, you will have a new meme.
13:55
Tim Berners-Lee's new company
tl;dr?
> Imagine if all your current apps talked to each other, collaborating and conceiving ways to enrich and streamline your personal life and business objectives? That’s the kind of innovation, intelligence and creativity Solid apps will generate.
> Think of your Solid POD as your own private website, except that your data interoperates with all your apps, which means you have your own personal API to go along with it. When you post comments or videos online, your friends can view them with whatever app they like, such as an album viewer or a social feed. It’s your data, that can be shaped in any way or form.
sounds interesting
Sound way too optimistic to be true
> I’m incredibly optimistic for this next era of the web.
14:25
Hehe.
15:07
@BenoitEsnard On Twitter, someone pointed out that strict-dynamic was set in the CSP, so the bypass my solution had wasn't actually necessary because the note-inserting script was already trusted, so every script it created would be trusted as well
That explains why they had that html() XSS in the first place which my solution didn't actually employ
Anonymous
This talk is so great!
Anonymous
He's motivated me to try harder lol.
Anonymous
And it makes me really want to go to DEF CON.
@Arminius Yeah, that was I thought too when testing the challenge, but I haven't thought about it again after reading your write-up
The write-up is still awesome. :)
Anonymous
15:20
I still need to do some more research on POA.
Do you have any opinion about the next one we should do? ctftime.org/event/list/upcoming
Anonymous
I'm going to do some research tonight.
also ping @HamZa
Anonymous
Its over my birthday!
Anonymous
15:21
That can be my birthday present from Sec.Se ;)
That's also the one suggested by @TomK.!
Anonymous
Yeah, it's not a great time frame.
Anonymous
But, it is my birthday weekend and I've got the Monday off :)
Anonymous
Heh, I don't mind which one we do though, as long as it's not mid week :p
@BenoitEsnard Cheers :)
15:24
I always get the rating confused though
That reminds me
is 98 difficult or easy?
$ noslookup hasjoshturned18yet.com
** server can't find hasjoshturned18yet.com: NXDOMAIN
Anonymous
^ LOL
Still free
Anonymous
15:26
Shall I buy it?
I'll leave that here for inspiration
Anonymous
lol.
Anonymous
@TomK. Oh!
Anonymous
Thats what weight means?
FML, I mistyped nslookup, now I can't edit...
15:29
Same question here: What does weight mean in CTFs?
Anonymous
@Arminius HUEUEUE
Anonymous
Unlucky sir. tips hat
So HITCON has the greatest weight then
@Arminius los lookups, the new band from mexico!
15:31
Hahaha
What about this ctftime.org/event/689
But their website is not working
The Hackover looks good, no?
I won't be in town this weekend
but you boys have fun
15:37
@BenoitEsnard You're the man!
But no SSL :/
Yeah, not available before ~24 hours
Github Pages :/
Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * :o
Gimme bounty
Anonymous
@BenoitEsnard I feel blessed...
Anonymous
coughs
15:41
HTTPS now available
@Arminius Yeah, we need that for the API: hasjoshturned18yet.com/api.json
phew
Anonymous
@BenoitEsnard Thanks :D
Anonymous
Much better :p
@BenoitEsnard The API lacks documentation though
@Arminius I won't push the joke that far. Why would anyone ever write documentation anyway?
I've updated the site theme.
15:48
Like it hasn't been pushed too far already :D
I hope someone will notice my new startup and buy it for millions.
@Arminius Never!
Anonymous
@BenoitEsnard I am in tears.
Anonymous
:D
Should I add Google Analytics?
Anonymous
15:54
lol!
Anonymous
Please.
I expect everybody here to have properly configured an ad blocker, so would that really be useful?
Anonymous
@BenoitEsnard Don't forget to update the page on my birthday ;)
Anonymous
I don't have one on my work laptop.
Anonymous
lol.
15:56
@BenoitEsnard What about logging in with Google?
@J.J The pull request is already done
Anonymous
@BenoitEsnard lol.
Anonymous
blushes
Anonymous
I feel privileged.
Anonymous
16:00
So do I at least get some CSS animations of balloons when it switches to "YES"?
Anonymous
:p
Oh, man.
My new start-up just opened a new R&D office, and they're currently working on balloons.
Anonymous
LOL!
Anonymous
Benoit, you could add this as a project to your LinkedIn profile.
Anonymous
I am sure recruiters would be mesmerised by the efforts of your new startup.
Flooding with electricity isn't even on that list.
Anonymous
lol.
Not sure if chat memes should be on it though
Anonymous
It should be.
Anonymous
Well, it has not been active for a whole year.
Anonymous
16:03
Time to revive it!
Anonymous
@BenoitEsnard Doesn't that page mostly include memes from the DMZ already, anyway?
@BenoitEsnard that needs fixing!
hahahaha - I clicked on it:
> {"answer":"no"}
very nice
16:23
$ pip install isjosh18
$ isjosh18
Josh is NOT 18.
2
@BenoitEsnard I put the JSON API to good use. Even though it's poorly documented...
hahaha
> The author of this package has not provided a project description
Oh, come on :/
How do I know how to use this module?
Well, there is isjosh18 --help.
I'm way too lazy to do a npm / Composer module sorry
Haha
16:47
@Arminius Bad news!
We'll close our API in 365 days from now.
We leave you a full year to migrate to another API.
Not okay. Integrating another API would be way beyond our budget
It already took a lot of time to reverse-engineer that horrible API
Your problems aren't our problems.
Wow
I've been your customer since the very first day. That's disappointing
You didn't even pay us once.
How is that a customer?
Touché
16:56
@Arminius I won't be present Friday evening, so I'll only be here on Saturday. :/
But we can still try it, I guess
Your insomnia is sec.se's best tool
Heh, Saturday should be fine though since it ends at 23:00 CET
Anonymous
Hahaha
Anonymous
I only left for like 30 minutes.
Anonymous
And this has gone way out of proportion lol
Well, nobody has openend a fan shop yet
I'm thinking t-shirts, mugs, USB sticks...
Anonymous
17:04
AHAHAHHAAH
Anonymous
:D
Anonymous
I would love an isjosh18 hoodie.
Anonymous
I might make isjosh18 my handle
Well, you got to keep the 17 in there
Anonymous
lol. How will I achieve that? :O
Anonymous
17:12
@Arminius Sir, I think there might be something wrong with your library.
Whaaat
Anonymous
Anonymous
Or maybe it's me
What's your python version...?
Anonymous
2.7.15
17:14
Or pip --version
Anonymous
Pip is 9.0.1
@J.J Should work now
Python 2.x sucks
Anonymous
:D
Anonymous
Let me test.
Anonymous
Hahah :D
Anonymous
17:28
It works. :p
Anonymous
I want balloons :p
Anonymous
Are there any plans for new features? @Arminius
19:00
@J.J What more do you want? Balloons?
19:33
user image
6
There you go
Anonymous
:D
Anonymous
I can't tell if this is real
Anonymous
Or.. Not.
Well, $ isjosh18 --balloons
Anonymous
o.O
19:44
Damn.
I'm now forced to add balloons.
Anonymous
^ Yes please
@Arminius I noticed a bug in your program. Balloons are here even when it's not Josh's birthday, as long as he's 18.
Do we need a API v2 to tell if it's his birthday?
@BenoitEsnard Yeah, your API didn't support that. :/
holy fuck
@Arminius this is great
Anonymous
20:00
^
@TomK. I'd rather say stupid, but thanks. Let's hope @BenoitEsnard implements some balloons too
20:15
hackover sounds good
the hitcon one is probably way too hard
cc @Arminius @BenoitEsnard @J.J
Anonymous
How hard will it be?
Anonymous
Is that based on the weight HamZa?
@J.J yes
Anonymous
So lower weight = subjectively easier/
I personally would not go over 20-25 weight but remember the weight is just an indication
I've done those 80+ CTFs, i spent them all banging my head and get stuck over a single challenge the whole weekend. It's not fun anymore when you have zero clue what to do
heck even after reading the writeups i didn't understand the solution (shrug)
i don't want to dramatise and discourage you guys though :P
20:19
Alright, I'm about 90% sure I'll be available for Hackover then
(Apparently the event for 2017 got cancelled, so only 2016 writeups are available)
Someone setting up a meta post or shall I?
20:40
Go for it
And add balloons please
To the meta post?
Of course.
21:02
@HamZa the one I proposed was just the only weekend I am free
and I mean 90 weight does not necessarily mean it will have the same weight this year, right?
@TomK. well we can always register at BOTH!

Q: Hackover CTF 2018 | Fri, 05 Oct, 20:00 UTC — Sat, 06 Oct, 20:00 UTC (24h)

ArminiusLet's participate in the Hackover CTF 2018! Hackover is a Jeopardy-style CTF and lasts 24 hours with 36+ participating teams announced. It's organized by the Hamburg CCC chapter in the context of the Hackover event. You can find additional details on the CTFtime event page and study the write-up...

@TomK. true, after all it's just an indication
I messed up the times before... so it's actually 21:00 CET, not 23:00 CET
@BenoitEsnard I added a balloon :)
@HamZa Of course we can. But my original question was about which one was the next one, and there can only be one next one. :o
21:12
true
21:37
and I mean, we could just register for one CTF per weekend
and just see who's coming
That would be cool
But we need to learn from our mistakes, do we have the time to learn from them in only one week?
22:17
Is there any video game about hacking?
That was my first thought, but it's not really hacking
If by hacking you mean hacking-themed
Ingress also allows you to hack portals, but it's non-sense drawing
Well if it's real hacking it's a CTF :D
Although with some dedication, CTFs could surely be more immersive
22:19
I've heard about the .hack series, but I never check its theme
...
> You become a hacker who passes 3D virus blocks through security holes to save humanity.
This one looks better
The thing for me is -- the closer the game gets to "real" hacking, the more it'd make sense to just spend my time on actual security challenges instead.
Yeah of course
But I guess video games could open "hacking" to more people, by lowering the amount of knowledge needed
I mean, Mr. Robot is a nice TV series
Way better than almost everything we got before about IT
It's far from perfect, of course
store.steampowered.com/app/370360/TIS100 <-- this one looks like assembly language
Would be nice to have real assembly learning gamified in that way
22:37
Let's learn game development
Just clicked your profile
"46231507".split('').map(d => "Arminius".charAt(d)).join('');
Do spambots evaluate this kind of JS?
Really don't think so
I'll put a XOR-encrypted text in my profile, the key will be my email
You think I should put that snippet there instead?
22:48
People will need to solve the challenge to send me an email
Your profile desc seems empty to me
You aren't skilled enough
Seems like it
All I see is a pokemon trainer
Skiddo, my favorite pokemon for obvious reasons
Mine is Charmander.
