@Simon do it slowly.
dont flood the homepage or the queueueues.
@Simon cool cool, which one?
@Adnan @Simon Seeeee??
I really hope that @Scott didn't star that message
@Adnan wasn't needed, because it should be obvious? ;-)
so hang on, this is actually rather #Simon of @Simon.
Sigh.

Q: What tools are there to inspect Flash SWF files?

AviDI am performing a penetration test against a website that uses Flash heavily. What tools can I use to examine the SWF file for vulnerabilities? From the Area51 proposal.

@Simon when you say "flag" you actually mean "vote to close", right?
@AviD Sure, this one should be locked.
20:11
@AviD He can't VtC
For being a historical donut.
@Simon oh fair enough. This was very early beta, and I just copied out all the q's from the proposal.
I agree on that.
or rather, put in a modicum of effort and edit into something useful.
@AviD Most of the questions I flagged were blatant "Which tools can I use to achieve X" so I don't see how they could be turned into something useful.
@Simon well for example, that Flash testing q should have been "how does one go about testing Flash apps" and what to focus on etc
@AviD But then people would complain like when kalina was editing a lot of Qs.
20:17
right, like I said dont do more than a handful at a time.
Whatevs, I think #projectdonut was a success anyway.
@Adnan Of course I did. You're trying to be condescendingly sarcastic while at the same time completely missing the point.
@AviD @Simon Flooding the queueueueueueueueueueueueues is fine, flooding the homepage is less than idea.
@ScottPack Ah right, an edit would bring the question up.
@ScottPack actually I think it is definitely idea. Just not an ideal one.
@Simon Affirmative. Handling it through flags, votes, and queues keeps it off the homepage.
20:25
@ScottPack Oh no, I wasn't being sarcastic at all. I was actually wrong to think that you'd see the difference between foul language directed at a specific person present here in a form of insult, and the usage of the word "fuck" in a non-directly-insulting manner.
Which was very clear when you said
38 mins ago, by Scott Pack
@Adnan I see two instances of foul language. One called out as such. The second, universally considered stronger than the other, also called out as such.
@Adnan Oh, I see, you took the term "bitching" to mean a personal insult, which is most certainly is not.
@ScottPack It was foul language directed at me.
You equated the two
@Adnan What the fuck are you talking about?
Hey look! I directed foul language at you!
@ScottPack I'm not gonna flag it, though.
You're trying to make a point
What I'm saying is that your distinction is somewhat trivial and has no more meaning than mine.
20:28
@ScottPack Alright. Then it's settled
Now let's all have a beer
Beer.
3
Olut
thus all the foreign words for beer I know are exhausted
بيرة
20:30
haha
thanks
Jesus! This font makes the Arabic script even more ridiculous looking
yeah it's tiny
@deed02392 !هذا ما قالته
TWSS?
Jep
20:32
lmao
I knew it
Oh! Google translates it correctly
I wonder how common that phrase is
Boom!@
Probably about as common as your mom.
quite possible
@deed02392 Not at all. The first time I think I ever said it in this context is today
In Syria, we use something different to highlight euphemisms
We use بلا معنى, which means "without meaning".
"I was looking at it. It was so big"
"Oh man, without meaning"
The closest thing in English I can think about is Archer's "phrasing"
20:44
Is that where that comes from?
haha @Adnan
it sounds like it could also be translated into "no context"
like the subreddit
I guess what you're saying is, "oh imagine if you said that without context"
the default context being sexual because we have immature senses of humour
@deed02392 Actually, the exact translation would be "excluding the [other] meaning"
30 close vote review queue items? Really? LOL someone was on a closing streak :)
I meant that it could be translated into that English phrase based on my guess of what it means in that context
@TildalWave Read up
20:48
@TildalWave Scroll up if you wanna read about this chaos.
@TildalWave TL;DR It's @Simon
3
Wow, that TL;DR can work for everything
@Adnan cheers
"TL;DR The Nazis marched into Poland and they Simoned it up"
3
Now, now.
So far all the flags were relevant. I might have disagreed on the close reason, but they all received it from me. Still 20 to go tho LOL
20:57
@TildalWave I see 11 in my queueueueueueueueueueue.
@ScottPack Hang on, I still have 27 flags left.
@ScottPack I just reached my daily review queue allowance
slash quota
@TildalWave Me too. Queueueue limites make sad Scott sad.
limites? I knew you were French.
I blame inertia
21:03
evening all
bit of friction earlier I see
(phrasing - I know)
Kinky.
I wish I had an extension on the daily review quota because I just read some of the transcript and I wish I didn't
As a mod on one site I can attest to how important being consistent with off-topic close voting is, I can't even count how many times I developed headaches due to members objecting with "What about this one? Why isn't this one closed and mine was?".
I have a DRMed AAX audio file. The ONLY way I found to convert it to MP3 so I can play it on my MP3 player is by playing it using the content owner's player and record the audio as it comes out of the stereo mix.
Reminds of the days of copying cassettes in a silent room
@TildalWave Isn't the reaction most of the time basically: "Because we hadn't noticed that awful question, thank you for informin us, it'll be closed shortly."
I remember the great invention that allowed you to record very fast by transmitting the signals directly from one cassette to another.
Apparently, that technology doesn't exist for this DRMed audiot file.
21:18
@Arperum that's always my favourite
@Adnan that was a set of motors that went fasterer
I hate this
@RoryAlsop Because the defense "But this crap is allowed to exist, why isn't mine?" is oh so bloody brilliant. That's like "If he jumps under a car, do you jump too?"
@Arperum Only if there was a donut under it.
The audio book is 6 hours long. It's gonna take 6 hours to "convert"
I really like my parents reaction to not perfectly equal discussions between me and my sisters.
21:20
@Arperum We made a few exceptions on Space Exploration regarding SR questions (wanted to make a few canonical threads) and that eventually lead to us being forced to support SR questions on the main site, even though there's still always some members that object now and then about it. So we now have book recommendations on our Meta, and SR ones are fine on the main site. It's a mess.
I'll go sleep
And that's a small site in comparison
That was basically: "Oh you can have perfect equality, but it'll be in everything then, not just this little point where the other person has an advantage over you. Including the things where you have the advantage, and the things you really don't want. Like clothing choices." We shut up real fast.
@Arperum well problem with closing questions is that the option is only available if they're not older than IIRC three months
@TildalWave SR?
21:23
software recommendation
@TildalWave Yikes.
@TildalWave Is it? Didn't know that.
Yup, even mods can't close after that time as off-topic. They can be locked or similar, but that doesn't really communicate consistency does it?
I seem to be able to closevote four year old questions (didn't actually try, so I might get an error on submit)
shit I just did it, didn't know that works now
interesting
You're interesting.
21:27
@TildalWave yep, I can close old questions as off topic, I just can't migrate them
@RoryAlsop ah yes that's it
damn volatile memory!
So no option to migrate old questions to SR.SE (for those rare few questions that are well defined)
@TildalWave I think it's a dev request
See, my actions improve things.
You're welcome, planet donut.
nice, it would make sense to implement this since there might not have been certain SE sites in existence before and they are now
just closing because we changed our minds on what's acceptable on the site somehow doesn't quite feel right
That's another thing I wanted to ask: don't the tags legal and tools lead directly to off-topic questions?
I don't see their purpose.

Q: Closing old questions

MarkSomeone's currently going through old questions (typically ones at least a year old) and flagging the ones requesting tools for closure. Is this an appropriate thing to do?

21:35
@Simon legal (as in laws and regulations) is on-topic, legality isn't (as in interpreting those as a legal advice)
LULZ
@TildalWave I see, what about the tools one?
I did suggest once to rename the tag from to as we did on Space Exploration
@Simon use -> Super User, rec -> Software Recommendations, but there should be limited use to here too I guess
Yeah.
For Software Recommendations we don't really have a migration option, only mods can do that since the target site is in beta. So vote as off-topic and if you deem the question is otherwise valid and well formed / specific, then also raise a custom flag for mods to migrate. Better not mention in the comments tho, because that tends to result in cross-posting.
I guess we could edit that custom close reason to include a link to SR.SE, since that text only displays after the question was closed here.
All this could be a bit awkward if SR.SE doesn't make it out of beta and we later decide to accept SR questions anyway LOL

1 hour later…
22:54
What happened to the "Too minor" suggested edit rejection reason?
@Xander It ded.
Long story short, a "too minor" edit brought a post to your attention. Fix it properly!
@FEichinger Lots of them don't need to be fixed properly. Lots of them only have minor issues, and are quite reasonable to stay as they are, and don't need to be resurfaced on the front page for say, the removal of a "Thanks" or spelling and capitalization adjustments.
23:32
Holy crap. I today tool day or something? Nearly all the questions I'm handling close flags for are asking for tools.
It's like someone ran a search for anything with "tool" in the title, and just flagged it all. Granted, they're all deserving. But still...
@Iszi Yes, that appears to be what happened.
And yes, nearly all (not all, but nearly all) of them are crap questions.
@Iszi Simon did do something along those lines, yes.
