@RоryMcCune sounds a lot like a scriptkiddie
if you check all of his tools, they generate a huge amount of noise

1 hour later…
02:58
@RоryMcCune The writing style definitely looks like it I agree.
Horribly noisy tools like @LucasKauffman said though...
Maybe a script kiddie that attended an English class?
03:25
@TerryChia Noise?
@DavidFreitag In this case it means scanners that sends out a lot of packets. Which makes it easier for a IDS to detect.
@TerryChia Ah.
I'm working on a 2.4GHz packet sniffer
Has an nRF24L01+ RF front end with an ATMega32U2
03:55
@DavidFreitag have you tried applying at the NSA?
I mean they crave for these toys
@LucasKauffman Nope. And they don't crave for these things they are a dime a dozen. Besides I bet they have ASIC manufacturers that make them single-chip solutions.
@DavidFreitag Yeah but I bet they don't have cool names like USB condoms.
@TerryChia I would expect the people who spin out the gizmos for the NSA are just contractors, so you never know.

3 hours later…
06:50
@TerryChia @LucasKauffman that's what makes me thing pen. tester. Most of the time they're white-listed by IDS/IPS and have a very short time window, so noisy tools make sense...
pcpro.co.uk/blogs/2014/08/07/… <-- 20 years of PC Pro interesting to see what was big in 1994
07:25
Why am I awake at 9am
4 hours of sleep is not enough
@kalina correct
@kalina I wish I could wake up like that. Instead my body absolutely insists on a minimum of 12 hours of sleep.
07:36
so does mine
I'm not sure why I woke up
my alarm isn't due to go off until 2pm
Then why didn't you just roll back over?
it wasn't that kind of waking up
if it was the usual half asleep still snoozing type of wake up I would have
this was a I've been sleeping for three days and the sun is on my face wake up
even though I have neither been sleeping three days nor is the sun on my face
Well that sucks. Maybe it's your body's way of saying you should go running. For a few hours.
I don't "run"
That's kinda the point...?
07:40
@kalina You roll?
running is awkward
I had really bad tendonitis when I was a kid. As a result my knees are basically useless.
you guys are too immature to have this conversation
@kalina Fine fine, let's wait till @RoryAlsop gets here.
@kalina I thought we were talking about running?
07:43
@DavidFreitag yes we are
and if I were to say "I cba with running because... bouncing boobs"
Yeah I see how that could become an issue.
and then the subsequent conversation about sports bras would probably just push it over the edge
it's really a discussion that completely misses its target demographic when held in a chat room on the internet
Funny enough I was thinking about saying "isn't that what they make sports bras for..."
But I figured if you could, you probably would've
yeah because sports bras remove all of the bounce
tbh, I just don't like running and I'm using my gender for excuses
I'm much happier dancing
Because of my knees I'm pretty much stuck with running on the elliptical, which is great because that enables me to be even more of a shut-in.
07:53
ah
it's just started thundering lightening and raining
I'm off to bed
ideal sleeping conditions
Heh, good luck with that
08:16
@Xander FTR, current versions of IE do push updates automatically. the point of that is the OLD versions wont be supported, and if somebody shuts off automatic updates they are not supported either
@AviD Oi, you should be using Safari now! ;)
@TerryChia heh, you have no idea
oh and I am using safari on the mac, but only cuz I cant figure out how to install chrome
@AviD Erm what?
exactly.
@AviD Download the installer and run it?
08:23
ah, you would expect it to be that simple.
@AviD Have you tried turning it off and back on again?
that only works on windows.
Your brain, not the Macbook.
But really, what was the problem?
@Xander I had a client using it. non-trivial overhead.
@TerryChia I DONT KNOW!
Macs just dont make sense.
@TildalWave hehe, what?
@AviD Was there an error message? (I feel like I'm troubleshooting for my parents here...)
08:27
@TerryChia error message? on a mac??
it just tells you you're an idiot for trying something that was not blessed by St. Steve.
3 mins ago, by AviD
that only works on windows.
@AviD Now I feel you are just trolling me. :P
Because even @AviD cannot be that stupid right?
@TerryChia ha! you'd think that, but you'd be wrong!
@AviD What the hell is the CTO doing with commit privileges?
duh. in Silicon Valley hipster startups, the CTO is practically the engineering manager. donchano?
@AviD Nope. Unlike you I have never been in a Silicon Valley hipster startup. #burn

1 hour later…
09:36
@AviD So why not put linux on your shiny mac?
09:50
@AviD or just admit defeat and install VMWare fusion + windows 8.1 :)
I think you're both missing the point here.
I still have my windows machine(s), for when I just want to get stuff done.
but I need the #ShinyMac for some mac-specific tools and such.
and tbh, its nicer lugging that around than my 5 year old Dell laptop.
should have asked for one of those iPad Airs... even lighter.
@AviD It can be just as nice though! The only difference is that it will actually make sense.
3 mins ago, by AviD
but I need the #ShinyMac for some mac-specific tools and such.
sometimes I feel like you guys aren't even hanging on dearly to every word I say.
@AviD Don't they make VMs for that? Besides, there's nothing stopping you from dual booting.
@AviD you have mac specific tools?
09:58
@DavidFreitag my point is, why bother?
@RоryMcCune inorite?
did find some ports, but thats just ridiculous.
surely $employer isn't hipstery enough to be writing stuff that only runs on OSX?
...
words have been spoken
@AviD If you're stuck with it, might as well enjoy it.
exactly
@AviD in small world news I was out with a friend of Mr Curphys on Friday night
09:59
@RоryMcCune I'm not sure the words were not aimed at me
@RоryMcCune heh. I think he was messaging drunk, too
@AviD wouldn't surprise me
@DavidFreitag @RоryMcCune I'm pretty sure at this point @AviD is enjoying the Mac experience and he's just keeping up the act so we don't mock him further.
hahah
my experience now is not much different from previous times I've experienced it. only difference is now I'm trying to actually get stuff done IN macosx, instead of just jumping into a VM.
that is, some nice eye candy, a few cute ideas, good hardware, but otherwise a futzy OS.
@TerryChia Honestly I don't know how anyone can enjoy it. I genuinely tried using OSX/iOS, but it's just so bad.
@DavidFreitag I like it.
10:10
@DavidFreitag it's not "bad", per se - it just feels kinda childish, clunky, and ineffective. especially compared to other options.
@TerryChia heh, this just proves my first point. ;-)
@TerryChia More power to you then. The only thing I have ever like about apple is their hardware.
@AviD Actually, are any of the tools you need hardware intensive?
You can run OS X in a VM.
hmm, dont think so, at least not yet
oh wait, I thought you meant something else
then I would say yes, but not yet so much
That's a potential option if you really cannot get used to the OS.
well, eclipse. that really sucks up the CPU and memory.
10:12
@AviD Regardless of how you describe it, I found it unusable.
@AviD I actually mean OS X-only tools. :P
Why are you using Eclipse anyway?
@TerryChia ...
Java! and others!
@AviD Get IntelliJ.
The best Java IDE.
actually I could use IntelliJ if I want, or anything else (netbeans...) but I've already been used to eclipse.
yeah, might switch over at some point.
@TerryChia That's not always an option. There are a lot of eclipse-only plugins and extensions
10:14
BUT I still have Visual Studio ono my VM!
the BEST ide
@AviD I knew you couldn't do without 'dat C# goodness.
@AviD Only with JetBrains tools. ;)
@DavidFreitag also true. we're working on both.
@AviD It's not without its issues though.
@DavidFreitag It's more than likely there's an alternative for IntelliJ unless the plugin is very niche.
Also, there are stuff for IntelliJ that Eclipse doesn't have as well.
10:16
@TerryChia meh, everyone says they are a must have, but I have yet to see any feature there that is a must-have and does not already exist.
@AviD It's not a must have but it really does make the experience better I think.
@TerryChia They usually are extremely niche. For example, TI has a set of plugins available only for eclipse for their Satira processors (also a lot more...)
very few features are worth bothering with, and those that are, already exist in lighter-weight free plugins.
@TerryChia what would you know? how much VS dev do you do anyway? ;-)
@DavidFreitag Extremely niche then. IntelliJ is the better option almost every other use case, including the primary one - Java development.
@AviD Ehh, was forced to do a fair bit of it in school...
actually it used to be the case, back in VS 2005 or so. nowadays it just crums up the VS editor experience, which really is so far better than anything else - and this is not me being an MS fanboi
10:19
@TerryChia What version of VS were you forced to use? Also, have you tried using VS 2012/2013? It's.... brilliant.
@DavidFreitag 2010 was the one I had the most experience with.
@DavidFreitag this, this and so much this.
Dabbled with 2012 a bit but I mostly moved on from C# before it was released.
VS 2010 was the Vista of Visual Studio.
@TerryChia That explains a lot. Not that you probably have any free time, but if you are curious I would spin up a windows VM and download VS 2013 desktop edition.
10:20
an excellent upgrade, better than any alternative, but just feels... incomplete.
I'm not arguing about the merits of VS actually, I do agree that MS makes excellent dev tools. :)
The first thing you need to do is switch to dark theme too.
"moved on"? You mean, "dropped back", right? ;-)
@DavidFreitag meh, hurts my eyes.
@DavidFreitag Heh yeah, no time for that. Rust is actually higher up on my "to try" list.
The stock white theme burns my retinas and the blue theme isn't contrasted enough.
10:21
I just dial down the white to a warm creme.
Brb food.
bbl, work.
@TerryChia Yeah I keep meaning to download Rust. Problem is I don't have any linux machines in working condition and I have about ten projects in the works.
Every time I think I get some free time, the boards for some project arrive and I devote my attention to getting them soldered and working.
mmmm leftover lasagna...
11:10
@DavidFreitag leftover what?
Lasagne (/ləˈzænjə/ or /ləˈzɑːnjə/ or /ləˈsɑːnjə/, Italian pronunciation: [laˈzaɲɲe], singular lasagna) are a wide, flat pasta shape, and possibly one of the oldest types of pasta. The word also refers to a dish made with several layers of lasagne sheets alternated with sauces and various other ingredients. Lasagne originated in Italy, traditionally ascribed to the city of Napoli (Campania), where the first modern recipe was created and published and became a traditional dish. Traditional lasagne is made by interleaving layers of pasta with layers of sauce, made with ragù, bechamel, and Parmigiano...
oh yummm
One of those magic foods that is better as leftovers
@DavidFreitag now im hungry... fridge is empty, stores closed
@DavidFreitag sometimes its even better fresh - if its saucy enough
11:15
@AviD Well yeah, there's only about a billion different recipes
@Nick That's a bit of a problem.
$4.05 for 3 PCBs for my 2.4GHz packet sniffer
Not too shabby
@DavidFreitag Gah, Now I want some too. And it's sunday afternoon, so no shops open at all.
@Arperum Pull up a chair
@Arperum I wish they were, I have to buy a memory card and a USB stick -.-
Where do you people live where shops aren't open on sundays...
@DavidFreitag Greece.... you know how things are here :p
11:21
@Nick Actually, no I don't. I live in a hole at the bottom of the sea.
@DavidFreitag Belgium. And all food shops are closed on sunday afternoon, most even full sunday. I think I'm going to see if I can find some kind of takeout service in the area. Damn you!
@Arperum If you were going to do it right all you would need is a small market. Home cooked meals are always better!
@DavidFreitag Home cooked meal requires me doing the dishes first. And a small market to be open. And the chance for that being the case is stupidly low. Since people have to be payed double on sundays and all that... And shops are required to have some sort of rest day somewhere in the week.
@Arperum That's a bummer. I'm so used to the American lifestyle where anything is just ten feet away.
I'm such a cliche American.
@Arperum I think you meant to say stupendously low? Stupidly low sounds more like one of your neighboring countries :))
11:27
@DavidFreitag Having social security has some perks, some disadvantages too though, such as required resting day.
heh
we have a 24 hour... hypermarket
(sort of. They sell everything)
@TildalWave Probably. English is not my native language, and I'm known for even fucking up Dutch.
And when I'm too lazy to cook there's any number of 24 hour fast food places nearby aswell
@Arperum fair enough :)
11:29
@DavidFreitag Not here.
@Arperum Trust me, you're better off.
Taco Bell should never make it onto anyone's list of acceptable sources of nourishment.
@DavidFreitag Right now I'm hungry enough to settle for an unacceptable source of nourishment. As long as it's not too poisonous...
@Arperum Let's just say that I don't have the lead stomach perk for no reason.
@DavidFreitag I have some sort of reinforced stomach myself. Gained by trying out all kinds of things.
Never try preparing sheep meat in a waffle iron. The stench is horrible. It did taste good though.
11:39
@Arperum I can see it now: "Honey, I'm thinking waffles for supper tonight." "Aww, but I bought these lamb chops!"
@arp seamen
@kalina Is it 2pm already?
No
Well... Nearly
Get any more sleep?
@DavidFreitag I had some lamb chops and no pan. And when you are in a shared studeznt kitchen with ten other people, someone might do a stupid offer, Which I accepted. The result was ten student sitting in a horrible stench, and one of them(me) willing to try eating the stuff.
11:42
Sounds like there is plenty of seamen available
Anyway, I found some food takeout thing that is open, gonna go get me some food. I'm curious how bad it's going to be.
Nobody ever listens to me
Well I was trying to come up with some comment about getting a boat but I couldn't be bothered
@kalina I'm confused, what are you hinting at?
Seamen is full of nutrients and you're a student who will try anything
I was just seeing if that was true or if you were exaggerating
11:47
@kalina: spoken from experience I suppose.
Obviously the latter
This is stupid, can anyone open this in Chrome spacecraftforall.com ? It only works for me in Firefox and then it warns me that "this is a Chrome experiment" and offers me to download it.
@kalina I was a student. I've been working for a couple years now.
Well I'm not interested in the nutrients I just don't like making a mess
@TildalWave Works for me with Adblock plus and HTTPS everywhere enabled
11:49
@DavidFreitag Dafuques? I tried everything, even disabling all the plugins and clearing cache ... I still get errors in the console. But it works in FF
@kalina I dunno I heard it's really good for the skin.
@TildalWave Have you tried turning it off and back on again?
@DavidFreitag yup did that too, even tried in incognito window ... same shit, I get THREE.WebGLRenderer: S3TC compressed textures not supported.
I've heard that too but it makes such a mess
@TildalWave Works fine.
@kalina Yeah and it takes like 30 whole seconds just to get a decent sample. lotion is just more convenient.
@TildalWave Have you tried using Canary instead?
11:55
@TildalWave: that's REALLY wierd
what OS/Firefox version?
@DavidFreitag that's if you can even get a decent sample
do you know what I hate right now?
@kalina The empty bag of skittles?
no
the prospect of driving somewhere in a right hand drive car so I can get highhh
What happened to your car?
it's in another country
11:58
That's a shame.
