"Building a secure environment is a stroll in the park. Unfortunately it's Jurassic Park"
05:38
It is so confusing when someone starts giving me a phone number like this "yeah my phone number is four hundred and six forty three sixty eight" (not a valid phone number, of course). I always ask them to please repeat it number by number.

1 hour later…
06:54
@Kisunminttu Erm... 406-4368 is likely valid in at least several U.S. regions.
One you can be fairly certain won't be is "five hundred fifty-five, ten seventy-two".
@Iszi Dangit! Well, that was totally unintentional of me.
@Kisunminttu It could be worse. They may have instead chosen to give their number to you in terms of its prime factors.
@Iszi I find it puzzling when people think that that is more convenient than going number by number
I mean, I can understand cases like 0900 0100 or something
@Kisunminttu I most definitely wouldn't have said "four hundred and six" (which, first of all, is grammatically incorrect) or "five hundred fifty-five". But I might have done the "forty-three sixty-eight" bit.
Actually, I don't think I've ever heard anyone express their prefix as a whole three-digit number.
@Iszi Usually the people giving numbers like that are Swedish speaking Finns, so that explains the grammar being incorrect...
07:02
Splitting the last four into two to-digit numbers is fairly common, and splitting the prefix up into a one-digit number and a two-digit number happens now and then, but I can't ever remember anyone using full three-digit numbers for any of it.
Something that I also find confusing is when someone rhythms the number in a different way than what is usual. For an example, we have that 0900 0100. I have to think about it for a while when someone divides it into groups of two numbers, 09 00 100 (this is a bad example, usually the numbers are different)
@Kisunminttu Depending on your dialing format, that's either too long or too short for the U.S. so I'm not sure how that should be naturally divided.
Over here, we dial local numbers either as seven digits or ten.
@mpm If I had a dime for every part of PHP that should change but never will, I wouldn't have to use it ever again. — Blazemonger 10 hours ago
@Iszi Ours are between seven and eleven
@Kisunminttu "Between"? What sort of anarchy is this?
Here, it's simple - you either need to dial the area code (three digits) or you don't.
Though I have to admit I still don't understand how sometimes the same area code can represent local and domestic long-distance phone numbers.
Crap. When did it hit 3 AM?
07:11
@Kisu Remember how I made sure not to touch the chilli last night?
@Adnan Oh, honey! :(
This morning, even after taking a shower, I was scratching an itch under my eye
Oh..
The pain!
@Iszi Yeah, the system sucks.
I poured milk right into my eyes just to ease the pain
@Adnan The skim milk?
07:13
@Kisunminttu Ahh.. don't add insult to injury
The only good part about it was that the milk was very cold
It eased the pain the just a bit
@Kisu I'm glad we didn't... get bored last night
We don't want the Fire in the South events to repeat themselves
@Adnan Hey, man. A little spice never hurt anyone.
Except your eye...
:D
@Kisunminttu That doesn't apply to that demonic chilli
I could swear that somebody has weaponized it already
ohsit, he's onto us
@Adnan Hey! That's a brilliant business idea
What's in the next kit James Bond gets? Chili lube. For that special bitch
...that sounds rather painfull
07:20
@Lighty Ahh.. tell me about it!
but what if i dont want to tell you about it? D:
42% Of Americans Believe God Created Humans 10,000 Years Ago
i have read that
yet the media said " vast majority", 3 lines later, it says "42%"
The vast majority comment is regarding the other choices
73% of Americans subscribe to creationism in one form or another, including 42% who take a literal interpretation of Genesis.
i didn't read all of it, jsut the 5 intro lines that were bold
07:24
73% is a vast majority
maybe i should read further next time
Yes
the only genesis i have faith in
has phil collins in it
There is no genesis with Phil Collins in it
not anymore
07:26
Exactly
he stopped due to some kind of musclethingy i believe, and deafness
shame
@kalina I saw something today, it reminded me of you
You mean before he went on and became a successful solo artist?
9gag... Really...
well, the concerts he still gave in 2004 (and the " finally, first farewell tour) was far from solo
@kalina Yup. Sometimes.
07:27
for an old guy, he really knows how to build a party
my parents saw him back in 1997 in germany, when my mom was pregnant of the mutation representing me
I had the most awesome 10 hour sleep
so technically, i was at a phl collins concert
That's not something to be proud of
me implying i am a mutation, me being at a phil collins concert, or the comment on that phil knows how to make a party?
@Kisunminttu smh
07:30
@Adnan I'm not perfect...
@Kisunminttu Not about 9gag
@Adnan Touché
@Kisunminttu you're perfect, for @Adnan, i'm sure of that :3
where "perfect" is akin to "accepts him regardless of his obvious faults"
hush youh D:
07:35
no power in the 'verse can hush me
@Lighty Now who's a good sock puppet? tickles under chin
lifts chin as an eye falls off
@Lighty Don't worry, we have spare eyes! I can fix it!
just snatch a button from @Adnan's shirt, like he would miss them :3
@kalina Absolutely
@Kisunminttu You can use the ones in the jars, love.
07:38
I'm sorry, responding requires that I lift up my head long enough to type out a message and my bed is too comfy
please leave a message, after the snooze
@Adnan :*
My cast comes off tomorrow morning at nine!
cast? o.o
you broke something? D:
why do you have a cast?
did @adnan break something?
2
I bet it's gonna feel like having a half-cooked spaghetti for a leg for at least a week...
adnan broke your leg?
07:41
@kalina My leg was attacked by a wall and I broke my ankle.
your leg was... attacked... by a wall... and you broke your ankle
well, better then stepping on a lego
@kalina Nope, but he did take good care of me for the first two weeks when I couldn't walk almost at all
im a sockpuppet, otherwise you would get hugs
@Kisunminttu ah now I see why you accepted his faults
his many many faults
07:42
He has been the sweetest partner anyone could ever ask for, leg in a cast or not
@kalina That's exaggerating
I would never exaggerate
And how I actually broke my leg: I was running in an outdoor corridor, tried to make a sharp turn, slipped on some little rocks, one leg hit the wall. Broke my ankle.
I've told you all a billion times
@kalina That, plus a few other perks
Too NSFW for the DMZ, though.
@Adnan I've thought about this but I can't think of any perks that you'd provide
07:46
Which reminds me, imgur.com/HWFErMF NSFW
ooh
yawn Morning.
@Adnan A few is an understatement.
@Kisunminttu Oh, Kisu
@FEichinger Good morning
07:47
(@Kisu I've almost used your real name)
@kalina Don't be so hard on @Kisu. She already has to endure @Adnan.
@Adnan You already have
@FEichinger Well, he has to endure me the same amount
@FEichinger Don't worry, I'm hard on @Kisu quite enough
If you catch my drift...
@Kisunminttu You ruined it with that one
07:48
Tsk, tsk, tsk.
@Adnan I know :)
@Kisunminttu petit assol
@Adnan demoiselle petit assol
@FEichinger I have to at least make the effort to steer her away from danger
Does that even work?
07:49
I would fail my duty as a member of the sisterhood if I let her wander into such future peril
@Kisunminttu Nooo.. you should haven't went with the double madam petit assol
@kalina Nah, she chose her fate.
@FEichinger and what a wonderful choice
@FEichinger I chose wisely
time will tell
sooner or later, time will tell
07:50
See? There's no convincing her.
@kalina Time has already told
@Kisunminttu What did it say?!
I've always found that kind of confusing...
"Sooner or later time will tell"
It has told, is telling and will tell?
@Kisunminttu no, "sooner" and "later" are still future tense
07:52
@Adnan It's top secret confidential. You need to hear it from me directly.
@Kisu Shiit! I've just noticed that I have indeed used your real name here
also, it's the opening conversation from command and conquer red alert
@Adnan Heheheh
@Adnan this is an unforgivable sin
@kalina Nah, @Kisu will quickly forgive me
Especially after I write her homework
Oh wait, you guys aren't Syrians; you don't know this euphemism
07:55
@Adnan Well, you are already forgiven, but if you want to write my homework (which, atm, is my thesis) you're more than welcome to do that. :D
j/k
What on Earth is "write her homework" a euphemism for?
do you want to know?
höhöhöhö
Alright. Lunch ->
i want lunch too
@FEichinger Use your imagination.
07:56
but its not even '10
(For the record, I'm on mobile and wrote that before I saw @Adnan's joke.)
@FEichinger In that context it's about performing cunnilingus
@kalina Not really. It does seem more subtle than angel cake though.
@Lighty In Finland, people eat lunch quite early
i have no idea what cunnilinus is (not english by native, never encountered that word), but i have no idea if i should google that
07:58
And less ambiguous than angel cake. shudders at the urbandictionary definition
@Adnan lucky
@FEichinger angel cake is not a euphemism for sex
@kalina Don't think I implied differently, did I?
@FEichinger indirectly by comparing two things that are not even the same thing
08:02
"oh, this skateboard is more subtle than this airplane crash"
mid air collision between two nuclear missions
vs
wanders in with a round of coffee or other hot or cold preferential beverage
the wind breezing softly on a quiet night
@BarryCarlyon I prefer my coffee with amphetamines in it, I hope you didn't forget the amphetamines
wanders out again to fetch amphetamines I have a man for those brb
THIS IS THE POLICE GET DOWN ON THE GROUND
sips his tea while giving @kalina 'the' look
08:05
Hey it's for the horses
@fei did you finish underscore dog watch
@BarryCarlyon that's ketamine
fuck
runs
@kalina I did. That was last night's "It is done."
@FEichinger you say "It is done" so frequently that I never know what it's in reference to
for all I know you could have carried out the hit I asked you to complete
or shipped the drugs
... Right.
08:06
or you could have finished masturbating
maybe you finished making food
or you finally found the fault in the matrix preventing us from reaching immortality
possibly even worked out how to make a fully sentient artificial intelligence
Aaaaanyway. Yes, I finished Watch underscore Dogs.
dogs underhyphen watch score
WHAT DID YOU THINK TO THE ENDING?
BEST ENDING EVAR RIGHT?
returns
I escaped the police.
I hope you didn't miss one of those fantastic quick time events
But I didn't get the amphetamines.
08:08
Totally. It was so well-written, impressive and engaging. Almost perfect!
it's ok I have my own stash
@FEichinger did you see what I meant about the credits being better than the ending?
(Also now have amphetamines on my clip board)
setting up the possibility of multiple sequels each with their own mediocre-at-best story
I even had to go through it twice!
ctOS being rolled out to a city near you soon!
08:09
user image
2
now that you've completely the game
Because there's a bug that freezes the game after the first credit roll if you type anything after the QTEs.
can we discuss the merits of blowing up under road steam pipes on demand by hacking?
obviously watchdogs 2 is going to have the main antagonist as dedsec
who will be unhappy that you didn't give them control over ctOS
but will probably have an insider amongst you who is on your side
or at least not your enemy
on accounts of you not murdering maurice during the end credits
you didn't kill maurice, did you?
DID YOU POINT THE GUN AT HIM AND MAKE HIM CRY?
did you listen to his entire sob story
08:12
covers eyes due to spoilers
whole game is crap
No, I left because fuck it. I was so done with that shit.
and then suddenly during the credits is the single best piece of story writing in the game
am i the only one exited for the new Unreal Tournament?
@Lighty yes
08:12
@kalina Yolanda being a media whore now?
screw this generation, im rocketjumping back to 1998
backwards
over lava
Can I come?
on fire
yes, i need a shield for those darn flak cannons
In fact
No I'm gonna stay here.
@FEichinger no
the scene in the middle of the credits with maurice
08:14
Meh, didn't care much for it at that point.
if you walk up to him aiming your gun at his head he has a panic attack and starts rambling on about how dedsec are way too powerful and nothing can stop them
and how given the choice between you shooting him and him talking he'd rather you killed him because otherwise dedsec will do unspeakable things to his life and family
it's like a 5 minute monologue
I have to complete the game again, unfortunately
I need to see if not murdering the whole of chicago results in changes in the ending
Don't think so.
Maybe if you end with any positive rep.
But I was pretty neutral at the end, didn't change shit.
well I noticed near the end there were those radio chat show conversations abotu how now everybody knew who the vigilante was whether it changed anything
but because I had fully negative rep and still happily mowed down civilians
they all wanted me to rot in hell
kinda like the feeling I get from people on stackexchange
so I'm wondering I had fully positive rep whether it would change
Ah, okay, maybe those segments are a bit different.
I will save my replay until after the patch
I also did none of the signature missions
or most of the side missions
08:23
Overall, I'm really disappointed. They could've done so much better with the game.
yes
it's a 0.5 out of 10
And I'm surprised by how easy the game got at the end. Police chases are avoided with trains and boats, combat is pretty much "mow everything down with the enforcer guns" ... Well, if you don't get OHK'd of course.
Disable helicopters + take down enforcers + auto shotgun ... Just don't get killed.
eh
disable helicopters + blackout + get into a car and hide
my favourite one is the speeding towards a door, open door, close door, blackout
MURDER ALL THE POLICE
blackout
hide behind tree
owowowowow, as a exercise, my boss/teacher asked me to look at a site he just finished making for " security uissues"
im not an expert, but the fact that i could bruteforce and send about 1000 orders pet minute if i wanted to makes me sad
did he write it in PHP?
08:34
using some combination of JScript and JSon/AJAX along with PHP
yes, you may set him on fire now
well then, now he has two issues
like? :P
php and it doesn't work
it works
his security is just shit
so it doesn't work
08:36
it works
that's like saying "yeah I have a car but it has no brakes"
@kalina sounds like one and the same issue
i can place an order, login etc.
but the site has no SSL either
which is illigal in the netherlands for poeple who handle information
escpecially webshops
so, three problems
and he has me as student
so four
08:46
right, that's my metacritic review of watchdogs
can you wield 2 rocketlaunchers at the same time and blow everything up in watchdogs?
wolfenstein is not a good game
you have no idea D:
I do
its better then watchdogs in some aspects...
like engine, i mean, the Disrupt engine with havok Physics sounds awesome, since they had portions of the havok add-on in the red faction's engine
but its nemisis in this discussion is IDTech 5.... which is far superrior...
08:49
@Lighty except it isn't
the only real thing idt5 has is whatever they ended up calling the supertexturing thing
there hasn't been a "far superior" ID engine since IDT3
i mean the regeneration of the map, and " continious" loading of a map
ive seen that in Max Payne 3 too, the Rockstar engine :3
did you play max payne before?
I haven't played Max Payne 3
@Lighty yes, that's the supertexturing thing
the difference is that for GTA they built a streaming system to have a huge map
you should if you get the chance, its a good one, but conusing story
and in IDT5 they built a streaming engine to utilise unique textures
only problem i seem to have with IDT5 is the retexturing after regeneration, like, the retexturing in Unreal Engine
08:53
@Lighty so if the developer couldn't be bothered to write a coherent story why should I bother with it?
but after re-loading or loading
its a good story, but it made a few twists, but the gameplay is amazing, feels are classic max payne, looks are realistic, and it just feels... good
is it as good as mass effect?
the same third-person view?
better even
atleast, more fluent in controls and view
now you're lying
not better as game
im not :3
08:55
it's not possible for a max payne game to be even remotely comparable to mass effect
only way to prove is to touch it yourself
the 3rd one is the crown ontop of rockstar, i personally think it even outmatches the overhyped GTA5
well, its a good rival for mass effect
mut max payne is liniar
and mass efefct is, fucking huge
no it's not
mass effect is really quite a small game
16hrs and youre done with payne (if slow player), i needed alot of hours for mass effect to visit as much as possible on first playthrough (mass effect 2)
i meant as in story, universe and maps
I could start and finish Mass Effect 1 + 2 today, and then finish Mass Effect 3 by the time it's wake up time tomorrow
with 100% completion and no squad deaths
and all DLC
i could do that with alot of games too, but you would know alot of locations
at first laythrough, you don;t
you always miss stuff
