I've been scared before but there's nothing quite like landing in several inches of snow in a plane that is barely holding together
and well, it really wasn't worth the flight
shortly after landing in fredericton I came to the realization that Canada is actually a deserted wasteland with two cities and a bunch of villages consisting of mud huts
No, I keep an interest in many things and I continually working in all those fields. So I continually write stories and music, solve puzzles, read at least 3 books at a time, moderate quite a few SE sites, play games, have a fairly complex job etc tec etc
@kalina I have at least two physical books in different rooms in the house, I take my kindle with me, and there are always graphic novels kicking about the house. The only thing I don't read are newspapers :-)
@kalina I far prefer proper paper, but I used to have to take 15 or more books on holiday, and it got annoying. At least the kindle has thousands on it, so I am not at risk of running out
@kalina they do also tend to be snapped up by girls fairly quickly though. Contrary to the saying that nice guys finish last, a lot of the nice guys I know get married relatively young
@AJHenderson I think a lot of this boils down to human nature. Same problem as economics basically: People generally always want more power than they have, so achieving true equality is essentially impossible anyway.
it gets even more complicated when you factor in the balancing side of things. I'm smarter than 99% of people out there, that's simply a fact of being lucky enough to be a genius, but that doesn't make me more valuable than another person. It means I may be more economically valuable, but other people bring value in other ways that I don't. I could be a dick and trumpet my own intelligence over other people, but instead I understand the value of others and that even someone 1/4 as intelligent
@kalina yeah, and that's what I mean when I talk about equality versus sameness. Some things make sense as being different because of actual differences in gender, where as other things do not. The point is that they need to be balanced as fairly as possible while still understanding the differences. That said, I don't think that means things like affirmative action, but I do think it means things like having stiffer penalties if a man physically assaults a woman than the other way around
since a man is generally going to be more physically capable of defending himself
