Sounds kinda like SF
but it's more "internet internals" if such a SE site exists.
maybe
00:55
It's hard to say, a tossup between NE and SF.
The last time I looked at NE they were more about hardcore network architecture than things like DNS.
DNS has always felt strange to me, it's in this middle ground between Networks and Systems. Depending on which company you talk to it will be viciously in one group or another.
01:46
@AviD FWIW I opened PerfectViewer back up. It seems to order things correctly.

2 hours later…
03:17
@FEichinger IRC is still very important if you do any open source work.

4 hours later…
06:53
AviD uses hotmail? thats a disposable account right?
goooooood morning dear internet :3
07:10
@Lighty goooooood morning!
hellow @Kisunminttu :3
this place is logical
07:42
ohgod, not HER D:
that overwhelming feeling of inevitability
nope, cba with today yet, back later
08:02
@kalina Ah i c
we need more tea and cookies
i've ran out
Don't forget the simple fact that I can easily (sadly really) spoof my IP address and get you to block IPs despite not having any access to it. Depending on your use case such a DDOS attack may be problematic or not. — Voo 10 hours ago
What?!
How?
Unless your authentication process is over UDP (silly, pointless, unmanagable, but plausible)
@RoryM Any idea?
Thanks, @Lucas
08:05
i onced thought about trying to obtain DOS/DDOS tools, just incase i recieve one, so i could retaliate, but i have no idea if that kind of retaliation is legal, so i simply steer clear of those tools :S
@Lighty 80% of the time, I like you. Let's keep it that way and stop talking about security stuff
@Lighty 1) "tools to perform DoS" --> chance of backdoor is quite high, especially with tools like LOIC. 2) Think about it, if someone steals your car, are you legally allowed to go over to his house and steal his laptop?
Plus, DDoSing someone isn't about that particular someone. Your traffic is gonna pass through multiple networks and reach multiple ISPs. All of those can sue your ass
@Adnan so straight TCP spoofing is unlikely without either TCP sequence prediction (no system in recent years) or source routing control (massively unlikely over the Internet). You could do it by either renting a bot with control of a machine in the same network as the target that comes out over the same IP address or if the IP you want to block is a proxy and you make use of the same proxy, but I don't think that's what he was thinking about.
Someone has been serial upvoting me :p. That person must really not like @Avid xD
08:08
it's the usual myth of "oh I can spoof IP addresses on the Internet, Kevin mitnick did it so it must be easy"
<. <.
.> .>
not me
@LucasKauffman it would need to be that or some weirdo obsessed with making the mods line up on the left hand side of the user page
@RоryMcCune we can take down the websites by wardialling into them
@RоryMcCune so it's you :D?
@LucasKauffman I didn't say that (unless of course you're accusing me of being a weirdo) ;op
@LucasKauffman can we hack the gibson too?
@RоryMcCune Yuuupp. Pretty much what I thought (except for the proxy thing)
08:11
@RоryMcCune yes we hack the gibson using RSA assymetric 100 bit crypto big data cloud cables
Hmmm.. I need one or two good answers to take @AviD down
This needs to be done before June
@RоryMcCune did you read that article where marketeers are trying to shift from "Cloud" to "Fog" and from "Big data" to "Fast data"
@LucasKauffman no, the onion?
@Adnan Ouch. :)
can someone tell me if the spelling is horrible on this page? arcaniacraft.weebly.com/hall-of-fame.html
i have no spell checker on this Mac -.-
and im a blind moron when it comes to spelling xD
09:19
weebly ... hiss
its idiot-proof, so its also Lighty-proof
@Lighty alot -> a lot.
I guess that's the only one
alot is not one word? o.o
hm, thanks :3
Gahd dat scene
pew pew pew
09:32
Not a great name for an international parcel packaging
@Adnan bahahaha
@Kisunminttu That blog is fantastic, by the way.
@Adnan I concur
09:36
@Kisunminttu There was an article on pubmed that was around 60% about that blog
@Adnan Oh? Link?
@Kisunminttu I tried to find it, no success.
09:58
@Adnan , I just looked up that last name we were talking about (Crescent Moon or something) and there are only 5 people with that last name in Finland!
(There are under 200 living people who share my last name)
10:18
@Kisunminttu Hmm...
I'll get ready to send mail to those 5 people to ask for their approval to use the lastname
@Adnan It was the protected one :(
it feels like there's a bump in my head...
@Lighty It's only your nose, love :)
i meant the top of my head D:
@Lighty Well, in that case you have a problem
Your nose is very, very dislocated.
10:31
@Kisunminttu Yeah, you can get protected last names if you get agreement from all people who have it
@Adnan NOWAI.
im your sockpuppet, sew it back into place
@Kisunminttu Yeap. Either by finding ancestry, marriage, or by consensus from all name holders
@Adnan I want that name. I want it so much.
Actually, I don't. There are nicer last names out there.
@Kisunminttu Maybe you should marry one of the name holders
goes to try to get the name
10:37
@Adnan Sounds like a lot of work for a name.
@TerryChia Not if it's a really nice name
@Adnan Well, seeing as I was sort of hinting at your last name...
I'm taking that as a proposal :D
@Kisunminttu brb. I have some work to do in Cambodia
@Adnan I'll wait for youuuuuuuu
@Adnan and @Kisun - So, this language quiz reckons I may be Finnish:
10:41
@RoryAlsop Wish I could see that link. Not permitted from this computer.
ahh - imgur blocked?
@RoryAlsop Yeah.
Basically it's best 3 guesses at my dialect of English are: English, Scottish then Irish, but it's guesses at my native language are: English, Finnish then Spanish
10:43
@Adnan Thank you :*
hehe the dialect i speak is an officcial dialect, but there isnt a single thing that can recognize it :3
Can't access that one, either. Oh well :(
@Lighty an official UK English dialect?
no, Dutch one
heiresy is Standard Dutch Language > Limburg dialect > Venlo Dialect > Belfeld Dialect
the dialect is called Belfelds, the venlo dialect is a combination from the standard limburg dialect, and the standard german language, and the dialect in Koln in germany
its complicated :3
but if i speak venlo dialect in Koln, which is in germany, they can understand me
even when the venlo dialect is msotly dutch
and belfeld dialect consists of german, dutch, limburg dialect, venlo dialect, koln dialect and kaldenkirchen dialect ^^
quick question, is the mysqli_query() function advised in PHP when doind database stuff? or should i leave out of my code?
@Lighty Sounds like where I grew up. The local region speaks Norn (which is basically old Norse) and Orcadian (which sounds more like Welsh than Scots) but my dialect has been skewed by living in the Falklands, Germany and Australia
10:53
cool o.o
@RoryAlsop So.. there's that.
hehe, russian
Russian @Adnan, Adnan with a beard and too much Vodka!
Apparently, I can speaking the same accent as @Terry
@Adnan You can speaking?
:-P
heh heh Ebonics

11:27
@Adnan and burninated
My gravestone will simply read: “Still couldn’t exit Vim”.
@TerryChia Not entirely untrue
I think only last month I learned how to do basic vim stuff
Like writing stuff, saving them, and exiting.
Every day I am amazed by how different some of the Finnswedes' dialects are from actual Swedish.
my gravestone would read: "Banned by Admin: Cheating death is not allowed in this server"
My gravestone would say: "His pacemaker used Windows XP"
11:46
My gravestone would say: "Satans finnjävel"
@Adnan that would make more sense in my case
i have unknown heart isues, and the doctors are puzzled :P
@Lighty Not unknown enough
what do you mean @Adnan?
> I have a heart issue so rare that nobody has heard of it before
alright o.o
11:58
@Kisu Love, are you here?
cake
i mean, i have random cramps around my heart, while that happens, i heave headaches and comprimised breathing, and a pressurised feeling on my chest, all tests came back clean, from monitors, echo's and cycle tests, which indicate i should be 100% healthy :S
@Adnan even *I* can do this
@Adnan Yes, honey, I am
@Kisunminttu How can we contact those people? suomalaisuudenliitto.fi
I cannot find an email address
@kalina You can exit Vim and Google?
You are indeed a catch
Contact information on that page
@Kisunminttu Thanks, love.
@Adnan exit*
12:03
@kalina aaaand spell? Whoa!
@Adnan and find an email address in a page written in finnish
@Kisu Wanna bet on how likely that they'll respond to an email in English?
finnish gibberish
@kalina Oh, stop it. I'm at work.
#yolo

12:05
nuuuu, it buuurns! D:
@Adnan Actually I'm thinking that that'd be very likely - I think they like to make a good name themselves...
@kalina "Never mind..."
can i throw flags at a scentence containing that word? D:
Well, I'm off. Home, here I come!
"You are about to close %S tabs."
I have decided that this week
12:10
I knew I had a lot of tabs open but damn. %S? That's a lot
I'm going to do something I've never done before
I am going to wear pyjamas
all week
@Kisunminttu Firefox?
i never wear pyjamas
pyjamas are the best
i have these lose sporting shorts and shirts that are way softer
12:17
@Lighty Whenever I'm at my place or Milla's place, I'm almost always naked.
So, yeah, I don't like pajamas
softer than pyjamas? impossible!
i only wear them in public/out of bed
i wear my blankets when im sleeping :3
yes @kalina, softer then pyjamas is possible
then come over here and feel my butt
>:3
...
12:20
thats the only way to know it's possible :3
you're not even remotely special enough to ever be in that particular situation
i am very special, but not in the way you think i am special
I don't think you're special, that's the point.
but @Kisunminttu says im very special
aren't i? D:
plottwist: i'm a sockpuppet, i have no butt
12:42
@Adnan Yup, FF.
Also, something funny just happened, I'll send you a picture on Skype, @Adnan
@Kisunminttu's browser made me into @Kalina and @Lighty
: D
@Adnan , the internet people might say that my browser derped
im a part of you anyways >:3
im kisuns sockpuppet, and she is yours
your browser knows >:3
one of the... communities... I participated in for 10 years has ditched their old database and started afresh running a stackoverflow clone instead of phpbb
guess I'm never going back there again
13:18
@Kisunminttu Chrome becomes unusable long before you reach "a lot of tabs"
@CodesInChaos It was FF :) But the picture @Adnan posted was from my Chrome
@Kisunminttu I bet you had like 239 tabs in that screenshot
@CodesInChaos never experienced any issues with chrome
@Adnan Mmm... about 36, actually
Sooo.. my boss bought me these today
13:22
@CodesInChaos But at least when one of the hundred tabs crashes it doesn't take the entire browser with it. ;)
@Adnan Tasted them yet?
@CodesInChaos I often have upwards of 50 tabs open in chrome. It seems to be okay
@Kisunminttu They smell like dog food
They taste a bit better than they smell
Sooo chilly
and now I have finished watching breaking bad again
@kalina Congrats!
13:24
well
it's hardly an achievement
@Adnan Nose-watering, mouth-burning?
I'm getting quite bored of this TV marathon already and want my hearing back
@kalina Chrome doesn't render the tab icons pretty soon. And once you open a few more it overlays the new tab button with existing tabs
interesting
ever thought about splitting stuff out into windows?
I have an overwhelming feeling of déjà vu
like, you and I have had this exact conversation before
possible
13:32
and I'm pretty sure the reason you don't is something to do with Chrome not fully saving all tabs across multiple windows in the event you don't close them all at once
so now that I've had that conversation with... myself... I'll start watching Burn Notice again
well I have two instances of opera and one of chrome open, so in a way I have three windows
I just have three chromes open
one for each monitor
</shameless plug>
and I never seem to have issues with tabs
Never figured out how to use multiple monitors effectively
it's really easy
what you do is you set up multiple monitors
and then you use them
putting a video on one and the rest on a second is the only one I manage
13:35
meh
when I'm making music
I'll either run cubase across two or three screens
if I run it across two, I'll have various other audio tools running on the third
@kalina cubase across two works for me
if I'm playing games I'll normally play with just the middle screen
@CodesInChaos Movie on one, editor on the second, browser on third.
in which case I'll have a movie on the right and a web browser on the left
or I'll activate eyefinity and play across all three
if I'm actively browsing
well
if I'm actively browsing like I used to
I'd have chat on the left, movie on the right, browser in the middle
but since I stopped actively using SE my left screen is a bit lonely
sometimes I get bored and I load up the same movie in VLC and WMP and try to get them in sync
failing that
I usually have code on the left and a youtube video on the right :P (or music)
13:38
my other PC running linux is plugged into the second input on my left screen
so I can toggle that to use that PC
although it's so rare I want to actually use Linux since it's a terrible OS
I mainly wonder how multiple monitors are supposed to make work more efficient.
multiple applications
Chat and movies are nice, but don't really help my coding abilities
more screen real estate
code in one, test in another, comms in another
13:40
like that ^
Also code in one.. stack overflow on the other xd
Editor in one, terminal in second, browser in the last one.
the productivity leap between 1 and 2 monitors is quite high once you're used to it
the jump from 2 to 3 isn't so pronouced
@Nick stackoverflow doesn't help productivity either :)
BAAAH!!!!! I had my speakers at full and you scared the hell out of me @CodesInChaos
13:41
I always feel like a larger monitor would be better than two
nah
@CodesInChaos Or two large monitors.
you're just wrong
@Nick yeah, the se chat sound is so bad
I can't even begin to tell you how wrong you are
13:41
Three large monitors!
at least
words cannot describe
three monitors for life
@kalina I have 2 now... you make me jelly
all PCs should have three screens
if you can't use three screens you should just use a tablet and stay away from computers
@kalina I think tho moving a window from monitor 1 to 3 would be a loot of dragging xD
@Nick hotkeys
13:48
@CodesInChaos meh dont use them too much... too bored to memorize em xD
13:59
@Nick windows key + arrow keys
@kalina depends on the OS...
21 mins ago, by kalina
although it's so rare I want to actually use Linux since it's a terrible OS
eugh
it's only 4pm?
I need to stop scrubbing through these episodes and actually watch them
maybe snooze for a bit
That's the nice thing about VMs. You can have linux for the few situations where it's needed without sacrificing a whole computer to it.
2
@CodesInChaos but... I like linux
14:56
@CodesInChaos while I agree with you, I've also heard that the other way around
those other individuals you heard it from are rebelling for the sake of rebelling
no need to try and change them though, leave all of those people together in a group so it's easy to identify them
15:14
CMS (noun): bloated web code (usually PHP) that guarantees clients access to Mess Stuff Up™ and cause early heart failure in developers.
@TerryChia Sad truth.
@TerryChia there are a few light weight ones out there, but they make it even easier for users to mess stuff up
since half the reason that CMS's are bloated is trying to prevent users from messing stuff up
I'm bored
entertain me
FINEDONTTHENILLJUSTKEEPWATCHINGCRAPPYTVSHOWSIVEALREADYSEENFFS
so I was listening to a sound I'm not all that familiar with last time
the sound of a modem dialling up to the internet
and it's such an awesome sound
I had it on in like a loop for hours
there are easily four distinct parts that can be sampled and flow naturally with dance music
I'm already well past that stage
I'm already at the "written several minutes of audio" mark
well
more like 5 minutes
but quite a bit of it is place holders
15:37
@kalina Those were awesome times.
not really something I experienced tbh
first time I remember having an internet connection it was broadband
I say broadband
it was like 512k down 256k up
I think my car has a faster internet connection than that
@kalina I used to be able to tell the speed of the connection by the tone
3
sad
@kalina or awesome!
no, I'm pretty sure I was right the first time
15:48
@RоryMcCune i'm going with sad.
@TerryChia Et tu Terry
you're just narked that I rep capped two days in a row so it'll take you longer to catch up :op
... I feel like finding this awesome is an old people thing.
But I find it awesome.
also sad
@RоryMcCune i'm not catching up. :P
@TerryChia well you were
15:49
this channels collective chance of getting laid is approaching zero
which is really impressive considering adnan has a girlfriend and I'm in here as well
@kalina no
@kalina Oi! I resemble that remark.
@kalina :(
@RоryMcCune my 500 rep this month is almost entirely passive I think.
@TRiG you resemble that remark, eh?
15:50
@kalina you're forgetting my missus is a geek, she thinks things like modem noises are awesome too
you do, do you
@kalina That's what I said.
so you resemble a channel approaching zero chance of getting laid?
are you certain?
[Y/n]
@RоryMcCune I think they're quite awesome, I spent hours cutting one up and distorting/bit crushing it
@kalina I really like that, because you said that, I'm the only one here who can't even try to counter that. At all.
rock, hard place, meet @FEichinger
15:52
sigh
BOREDOM
OVERFLOW
boredomoverflow.com
WELL THEN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
boredomexchange.com
@kalina theres something to do: make that website xD
mv /store/Video/TV > /dev/null
what
what website?
15:54
"boredomexchange.com"
oh right
sounds like a good idea
I'll add it to my plan for world domination
@kalina Your attention span is all the way down today again, huh?
@kalina do you like skirts?
@Kisunminttu I feel like this is the point where I should leave the room for my own safety.
@Kisunminttu I am of the opinion that if I don't present myself in a way that would attract gazes from guys that I can hold the moral high ground and give them shit for looking
15:56
@FEichinger Nah. I was trying to find something useful to do when I was on my one-week-long "summer vacation" and I thought I could make a skirt, liked it and am now making a dress. I was going to suggest that to @kalina , but apparently that's not an option. :P
@Kisunminttu And I anticipated her reaction, hence my message. ;)
I didn't react
there was no explosions
@kalina How about other crafty things? Or making delicious things out of chocolate?
Jesus Christ, I sound like such a housewife.
yes you do
@Kisunminttu I was about to say, this conversation is .... novel... for the DMZ :op
15:59
if I make things out of chocolate, they normally have weed in them
@kalina just get Metro 2033 or The Last of Us and start hammering away.
I bought watchdogs earlier
I'm going to go and play that
00:00 - 16:0016:00 - 00:00
