14:00
troo
If I was a journalist I'd have to write it like 'Bios'
bout you would be clubbed to death here if you do that
all right Rob Dougan
Yeah, silly Rob (who the fuck is that?)
you should know @Simon
thought you had good music tastes
14:02
Phill collins all the way
I'm currently listening to a 170 BPM track, I don't think many people would label this as good music taste.
I listen to Jem and the Holograms.
Don't knock your own music tastes @Simon, you've already bashed your mom
And I need some elastic band, I'm making myself a skirt but not without that...
My poor mom
14:04
thats what he said
@Kisunminttu Are you a turtle?
are you saying you've not heard of Clubbed to Death by Rob Dougan
@Simon Nope!
@deed02392 Oh, every single sane human has heard this track.
but we're insane, you stated that yourself 5 minutes ago
TAKE THAT
14:06
I never said my thoughts were coherent.
pssh >:
@Simon right
@Kisunminttu You're making a skirt?
"skirt" is code for "buttnaked", @Adnan.
did someone say naked?
pics or it didnt happen
14:09
@FEichinger Oooh, thanks.
This is still pissing me off
@Adnan Just figured I'd tell you in advance. I'm not ready for another such awkward conversation in here.
@Lighty I'd send you some, but I don't know if @Kisunminttu would like that.
sometimes, its better not to know everything
anyone around here who is working as a pen tester?
14:11
not really maybe yes... i used to flick them against people's heads and rate them for impact
@deed02392 You have @RoryM, @Lucas, and on the entry-level, me.
Does it ever get boring doing pen tests on office networks?
it doesnt
well, the person i test them on does
if so, and you're a security consultant, are there more interesting things to be doing in the industry under that role?
but that is none of my concern
maybe
14:12
@Adnan My dilemma has turned into a trilemma
@deed02392 Oh, hey, @Adnan's dilemma has also turned into a trilemma today!
@deed02392 So far (again, keep in mind, entry-level) I've never been bored. Each network is its own challenge, unique users with unique behaviour, and the same things you've done for one network cannot be applied on the other.
There are always new methods to learn
New exploit-writing techniques
maybe it depends on the type of person
and even worse coffee to taste
14:14
basically I've heard from two people something along the lines of "once you've pen tested 100 networks you've done 1,000,000"
@FEichinger Today? heh!
@deed02392 Pen-test 100 networks first before letting people put you down.
There are many areas you can go up into. Just ask @RoryA
He started doing dirty-work security, and now he manages and leads security teams.
@Adnan they're not so much trying to put me down though, this is coming from my current company who are trying to keep me to join a new security team they're putting together
@deed02392 There is the option of HR manager as well.
Devise security plans
and saying basically don't leave to be a consultant, it will be boring compared to the work if you stay here
14:15
etc.
or the guy that gets coffee for the whole team
thats my current position
@Lighty Do you get to drink coffee?
i prefer good tea
Guess who also prefers tea!
@deed02392 A researcher job looks very appealing if you are good.
14:19
your 3rd sock puppet place?
@Adnan I would be, if I had elastic band. Or a zipper. I have buttons, but putting buttons on a skirt would be stupid right now.
@deed02392 I work as a consultant. Work gets boring only if I allow it to be boring.
Come to think of it, a zipper is just as stupid.
clothes are stupid
@ThomasPornin Do you need a PA? I don't mind to wear a dress.
14:21
@Simon Either you don't know what a PA does, or you know way too much about what a PA actually does.
Rofl.
@Kisunminttu @DavidFreitag youtube.com/watch?v=OZ2iileann4
@TerryChia that's actually a possibility at one place I'm looking at
@ThomasPornin How do you control such a thing?
So I just finished Breaking Bad.
I enjoyed the last 17 episodes, but the first three seasons were insanely boring.
@TerryChia Congrats
14:29
@Adnan not bad, but not my cup of tea :/
@deed02392 If work threatens to be boring, I creatively invent new ways to do it (or to avoid it).
@ThomasPornin Like writing insanely good answers on Stackexchange?
@TerryChia Since you like Game of Thrones youtube.com/watch?v=xasHY7yARDA
You know what else is insanely boring? My D.
@Simon I don't know, man. Those things are getting kind of old
14:32
You're old.
@Adnan Hahahaha!
@Lighty Help me out bud.
your mom forbids me to help you out
Let's try it on @Kisu
Hey, @Kisu, you make me harder than Valyrian steel.
5
looooooooooooooooooool
14:34
I particularly enjoyed the "Hodor" one.
@adnan you make me more moist then @Simon
3
wat
its the hair
All I see is the flagrant grammatical error
@TerryChia The last scene was pretty neat
14:35
@Adnan ;)
See, she digs it.
your mom doesnt want us to dig
They got a lot of numbers
@deed02392 They always do. Plus, montage.
I Winterfell in love with you
lolol
14:37
but i charge delivery costs
harder than Valyrian steel
talking about hard things
shift is over in 20 minutes
@Adnan I fell for you harder than Lysa fell through the Moon Door
who is Lysa? WHAT ARE YOU GUYS HIDING
The next Game of Thrones episode will be very enjoyable.
14:41
my head hurts
i need more tea, hugs, chocolate and more hugs
@Lighty I can provide 3 of those.
deal
@Lighty Are you into Hard Dance?
im hard, but i cant dance
why?
Tsk, tsk. You're a fake Dutch.
14:44
im not a fake dutch
seems someone here doesnt know how many different types of people we have
we have farmers, in the north
around amsterdam, we have the busy-people and fake-english-speaking people
in rotterdam we have people who like to use cancer in their sentences
braband is full of belgian-dutch hybrid (uber-morons)
and limburg is half-farmers and gay people
like me
<3
and there are enough stereotypes ive missed
but the list goes on and on and on....
All of this is irrelevant. I'm asking about your music taste.
Which is the most amazing thing about the Dutch.
Phil collins, Eric Clapton, BB King, AC/DC, Rammstein, Metellica, Guns n Roses, Bn Jovi, Robbie williams, Buddy Guy, ZZ Top
those fit me
I just burned my mouth with tea :|
kisses help cure pain ;)
@Adnan , can you kiss it better?
14:49
@Lighty No electronic?
not really @Simon
I'll just be back in a few ... days. This is getting a tad too weird here.
@FEichinger I read "tat", thought you were getting cool.
and pff, im a good kisser too D:.... atleast, thats what my mom says
wat
14:51
@Lighty cue cicadas
no idea what that is
but im heading home now, a 30 minute cycle
try not to miss me too much
@Lighty Have a safe trip :)
@deed02392 Is this something you enjoy? : youtube.com/watch?v=LABdWIMfdAg
@Adnan even more worrying, I started doing PC maintenance, then sysadmin and network admin, then security configs and firewalls, and then the fun stuff like penetration testing
@Lighty I approve of all of them
Why don't we have music as a room topic?
@RoryAlsop We should
14:56
@RoryAlsop I demand a new room topic labeled: "music" !
although of course, we have:
the music chat room
@Simon definitely, although I was more into that when I was younger
Oh nice.
these days I'm content with it just coming up on shuffle. it's more the anjunabeats kind of thing I actively listen to
Mat Zo, Arty
@Simon Nine Inch Nails last night were utterly awesome
by the way
llama incoming!
hello @Lucas
15:00
@LucasKauffman You fail as a ninja if @RoryAlsop can see you coming.
@RoryAlsop Nice, was the ticket expensive?
Oh Hai there
@RoryAlsop How are you doing today?
@TerryChia Maybe my goal was not to be stealthy
incorrect use of 'effect' in this official printed workbook
@TerryChia Maybe I just made your pants moist while you were distracted.
2
pffff
15:01
@LucasKauffman That's not very ninja-like of you. :)
@Simon do you like SERL?
@TerryChia Or is it?
sorry, S3RL
@deed02392 Don't know him/her/them.
oh dude
sec
15:04
That sounds way more like Happy Hardcore than Hardcore.
The kick is way too weak to be Hardcore
It's not too bad but I wouldn't listen to that in loop
I think this is just more like how it used to be
that's an old, old track
@Adnan you silver tongued devil
Worrying signs that the girl will be a javascript programmer. "Sometimes, Daddy, 5 and 5 makes 55 and sometimes it makes 10."
lmao
terry what's your twitter
lulz
@Simon £35 - really cheap. And at Scotland's premier venue!
15:09
i'm gonna follow the shit out of you
@RoryAlsop Yeah that sounds very reasonable.
OH MY GOD IS THERE A PIC OF TERRY ON HIS TWITTER?
@LucasKauffman grand - thanks. Very tired though. Got home at 4 and had to get up at 6:30 for work
@Simon their newer stuff: youtube.com/watch?v=meIjVDT-XMw
@RoryAlsop oooh, hard core
@deed02392 It's private sorry. :(
@Simon No. I have blink's logo as my profile pic.
15:11
@LucasKauffman aye - but no drinking, as I was driving to and from the venue (no other sensible way home)
@TerryChia and I'm not your friend? :'(
@deed02392 I let almost nobody follow me sorry. :P
I only have 13 followers.
@deed02392 That's really different than the HC I listen to.
@TerryChia I can dig that.
@TerryChia fair enough
Yay! I got the SSL handshake thing working. Now for the hard part.
15:18
good stuff @TerryChia
are you doing this all on a public repo
@deed02392 Will be once I get the command line tool done.
good stuff
gimme a ping when you push it
Probably another day or two depending on how many movies I watch in between.
@RoryAlsop how do you keep awake?
i am back home
that means pants are no longe requiered
15:31
So kinky
@deed02392 More or less. I'm mostly into harder tracks unless it's deadmau5.
@TerryChia Ok, i should rephrase. I have heard Mountain Lion is an absolute RAM whore.
@DavidFreitag Ah probably. I skipped that and went straight from Snow Leopard to Mavericks.
@DavidFreitag ilesoniq.com
Hey @Simon , have you listened to The Glitch Mob?
@Simon Oooooh. Now that's what I'm talking about.
15:38
@Kisunminttu Heard of him/her/'em, never really checked him/her/'em out.
@Simon The Glitch Mob is pretty bawler. They remixed the Tron soundtrack and it's pretty awesome.
@Simon My personal favorites are from their album Drink the Sea: Animus Vox and Drive It Like You Stole It
@DavidFreitag Couldn't agree more. They did a fantastic job on it.
I'll check out those in a few.
@Kisunminttu Hehehehe. I used to blast drive it like you stole it in my last car. (Because it was a piece of shit)
@Simon Be warned though, it's extremely chill.
@DavidFreitag : D
15:43
@DavidFreitag I like some slow tracks, like this one by Noisecontrollers: play.google.com/music/listen?view=/track/…
Select the one that says Down Version
@Simon Yeah i have that album in my ever expanding library
It's reeeeeally good.
I also listened to Wasted Penguinz's album Wistfulness for the first time, no idea why I didn't listen to it sooner.
Very melodic as expected.
@Simon So are you guys planning on going to ilesoniq?
@Simon Only just found that mix today but loved every minute of it pretty much
@DavidFreitag I know my gf and her friends are going so I guess I'll go too even though it's not my favorite style of music.
15:48
@Simon Yeah WTB hardstyle plox.
Montreal isn't a Hard Dance city unfortunately =\
Well, Montreal is nearly a four hour trip for me, so that is probably a good thing..
@DavidFreitag Did you see this: mysteryland.us/en
@Simon I have now
@Lucas - caffeine and youthful enthusiasm
15:51
There might be a HS rave in Québec city but that's about 3 hours away from Mtl (North-East)
There's a Q-dance stage @ ML USA so that's gonna be neat.
I saw it too late so I couldn't plan anything.
@Simon Duuuuuuude NY?! Thats SO CLOSE
It's even close to me so yeahhhh
Still 2:47 trip for me though, heh
Worth it

Q: what are security flaws on providing access to users through a unlisted/private/token/signed URL?

jibielSome web applications enable registered users to grant temporal application access to un-registered users sending token/private/unlisted/signed URLs (I ignore the exact terminology for this), which are then used to submit sensitive/confidential user information. The reason for using such mechanis...

is it just me or is he really confused
15:55
@Simon Let me know if you plan on hitting up Mysteryland US. I would totally tag along.
Mostly because that means i don't have to get a passport.
@DavidFreitag Not gonna happen this year. Possibly next year unless I plan a trip in Europe or Australia to hit Defqon
@Kisunminttu Animus Vox is golden
@Simon Glad you like it :)
@Simon It's really too bad that I'm to much of a pansy to go it alone.
@DavidFreitag I know the feeling, never had the balls to go to a show by myself.
Is there a way to find what playlists a video is a part of on youtube?
16:04
Not that I'm aware of.
YUS. I found it.
Oh boy, that's out of my scope.
Yes, that'll melt your face off.
16:54
@DavidFreitag nice!
@RoryAlsop That playlist is just great.
@DavidFreitag Awesome!
Unfortunately they have changed this playlist since i last listened... And the changes aren't good :|
@Kisu Looks like we're finally gonna have a new bed tomorrow.
17:03
@Adnan Oooh! I'm excited! :3
@DavidFreitag Countless Skies is on my top 50 list.
@Kisunminttu Let's hope this one is better than the last three.
@Adnan I listen to waaaay to much music to have a top anything list.
@Adnan Hehehehe
god damnit
i was removing my 2TB game HDD from my usb 3.0 external husk
and put it in my PC
and from all the fckin folder
and all the programs
the folder steam
gets corrupted..
not amused
Try running chkdsk
It has a somewhat limited ability to fix file corruption.
17:06
its already running, but thanks for the help anyways
i threw holy water at it
well, it was coke
but it counts as holy water for me
@Adnan I'm trying to do troubleshooting with my sewing machine. I would probably be wearing a skirt I made by now if it wasn't for the problem with this thing. >:(
@Lighty Yes, cocaine always gets my hard drives ticking away as well. Cheers
...
the folder dissapeared
but all the space is still in use..
NTFS uses B+ trees, so depending on how far down the tree the corruption is, you should still be able to save a lot of stuff.
im gonna backup the essential stuff
now i can spend the coming month re-installing all my games
1.8TB worth of it
but seriously, how can a drive get corrupted if i take it out of an external drive cas, and mount it in my PC
17:13
If it wasn't powered down properly
it wasnt even connected to my PC while i powered it off...
For example, there is probably a buffer in the USB 3.0 enclosure that is converting the stream of data from USB protocol to SATA 2.0. In doing so, it holds a small amount of data between when you send it and when the HDD receives it.
well, the reason why i put it in my PC was because i thought my usb 3.0 card from china fried
@DavidFreitag And even if it was, it might be a headcrash.
If you power the drive down before all this data is transmitted to the HDD, boom corruption.
17:15
and ofcourse its only the steam folder...
We had a bunch of disks fail over time, simply because the head didn't retract as it powered down.
@Lighty I would run a SMART check on the drive to see if it is failing somehow.
If all else fails, try running Recuva on the drive (this might take hours for a 2TB...). That will check for file signatures that may have been bumped off the HDD's file table. Restoring older versions of the files that are corrupted might fix your issue.
typical Bootstrap CSS site @TerryChia
and thanks for the tip David, lookig into it now
@Lighty I'm not exactly talking about the CSS here.....
17:19
Recuva should be a last ditch effort before nuking and rebuilding.
i know, jsut something funny i saw
I would start by firing up your favorite Linux live CD and running a SMART test, or trying your luck with Windows diagnostics. If there aren't and red flags there try to chkdisk it. Sadly I don't know of any Linux-based NTFS corruption utilities..
17:32
hm, im going to nuke it :/
hm, if i just "format" it, is that good enough?
17:47
Yes, that will bump the file table and it will appear that the drive is "empty"
However, you could still run recuva and recover some of the files that you nuked.
possible, im starting to rebuild it soon
already got some donwloads running, gonna shower, and try not to flip tables, since that was alot of data xD
Does anyone know this one?

Q: Remote Registry with alternate credentials from the command line

IsziSometimes, when I'm teleworking from my personal laptop, I run into problems with my SmartCard reader while trying to connect to systems that are configured to enforce SmartCard usage. The usual workaround, whenever I have elevated privileges on the target system, is to connect to the Remote Regi...

there are libaries for that kind of thing in PS
18:02
@DavidFreitag Wow
@Iszi Can you trigger the PS script remotely, instead of conencting remotely?
@schroeder I'd need access to PS Remoting to do that.
@Adnan I don't want to live on this earth any more.
@Iszi Not what I'm thinking - don't remote in WITH PS, but trigger the local PS script from external
@Iszi I've done with batch files, for instance
@Adnan also, that cannot possibly be real.
18:07
@Iszi what about runas /netonly to launch the powershell
I've no idea if that would work to launch powershell but it works for things like SQL server managment studio :)
@RоryMcCune I'm not familiar with /netonly and it doesn't show up under /?.
@Iszi means that as far as the local machine is concerned you're the local user but if you make connections over the network is runs as the runas user... let me dig you out a link ...
Oh, wait. It's there. I was just missing it. Could be interesting.
@Iszi interesting writing style but the info is good pseale.com/blog/2011/02/02/…
So, I'd just use runas /netonly to run the reg command?
18:11
That one is even better. Huehuehue.
@Iszi can you specify the target host with the reg command ?
@RоryMcCune Yeah, you just start the registry path with the hostname.
@Iszi so in that case yeah that might work
probably worth a shot (on a non-important machine with a safe query :) )
@DavidFreitag Amazing!
@Adnan If he gets elected I'm going to shoot myself in the face.
18:18
@DavidFreitag Highly unlikely
@RоryMcCune Holy shit, it worked. First time.
@Iszi \o/
Now to try actually setting the variable.
@Adnan You might think so, but he may have the sentiment of a public that is sick of the same old politics. Then again most of his biker pals probably won't even be able to vote
18:33
@RоryMcCune You gonna throw that up as an answer?
@DavidFreitag No, I think he's implying you don't have the balls to follow through.
@Iszi Well, i didn't say what i would be shooting myself with.
@Iszi done :)
19:06
@RоryMcCune Upvoted & accepted. Thanks!

Q: Realism in modern tv shows

SiracWhen watching tv shows I sometimes see someone decrypting encrypted files in a short time (maybe some hours or even less), even though its said that that the used encryption is cryptographic strong. In some movies we also see some characters which change very fast while, time after time, one char...

Where's the "Not a Real Question" close reason when you need it?
lol
@Xander heh - self-delete
20:46
@Xander it's obviously all real, so "unclear what you're asking" might apply :)
@TildalWave LOL. I ended up settling on "Off topic, not in scope blah, blah" which was perfectly adequate, in all honesty.
isn't there a SE site for that, like Sci-Fi & Fantasy or TV & Movies?
so can 10k members see deleted questions or just deleted answers?
@TildalWave I think it's both
Yeah, 'cause they can vote to undelete
@JeffFerland ah yes, democracy :)
this search security.stackexchange.com/search?q=is%3Aquestion+deleted%3A1 must be quite a fascinating read for 10k users then
21:02
@TildalWave nice. yup. :)
21:48
@DavidFreitag I know this is a late response, but I just wanted to agree with this. And, unless you are programming for OSX or iOS, it is almost always the case.
@AviD And i would pretty much rather do anything other than write Objective-C.
actually, sometimes there is another legit reason - you go to work for a hipster startup, where MBP is standard issue.
then again, hipster startups.
@AviD Yeah, but with clever use of X, Ubuntu can look remarkably similar to OS X.
Like I said, i have no issues with MBP hardware. In fact I almost prefer it to other laptops.
oh I agree, it is nice hardware. Still not sure its worth the premium, but it is nice. Its the OS I find extraneous.
There aren't many really nice aluminum body laptops that are cheap. There's the one i linked, the Razrblade, and MBP (that i can think of...) and they are all decked out (relatively...) and all are in the ballpark of $2k
