@AviD - I'm having trouble with my current employer. They actually expect me to take the holidays I'm entitled to. Which means I have to take 3 more weeks off than I am used to...
hey, if anyone in here downvoted my answer on the executive laptops, can you check and see if my edit fixed it. I spotted what I think was the problem in my answer. (Silly me forgot to clarify that I was thinking of offline attacks, not persistent compromises when talking about what a VM offers)
@kalina It made me angry because... ahhh.. why bother.
@kalina Well, I'll bother. It made me angry because it's annoying to hear that someone is being oppressed so much that they have to hide 99% of who they are.
@kalina Do you really not see that I'm trying to sympathize with you? Are you incapable of understanding that some people on some occasions under some circumstances can actually be on your side?
Are you completely convinced that the whole universe is out to get you?
@AJHenderson Even if you're a a combination of neo-Nazi, baby-eater and Al Qaeda supporter, all at the same time, I'm sure you'll find some people who aren't out to get you.
and there are very few people who I've ever really wished would leave a chat or stop participating, and most of them ended up banned by the hands of others eventually
(which is to say, I don't actually wish anyone in this room would leave, even if a joke sometimes calls for alluding to it)
@AJHenderson Problems really arise when the misunderstanding stretches far after "spelling it out". At that moment, you realize it's not just misunderstanding, it's actually lack of understanding.
I made a decision a long time ago I'd rather deal with filtering out the crap and have people that should be able to find me find me, since the people I don't want to find me are going to do so anyway
if you google me, I'm actually one of the top results for Google. I have the misfortune of sharing the name of a moderatly successful voice actor and a somewhat famous physics professor
so I don't completely dominate the search results, but I'm most of them
@AJHenderson I get you, man. I share a name with a published guitar instructor, an English book buyer/reviewer, and the preferred brand of air tanks for firefighters.
I've occasionally gotten on the first page, but it's rough.
that is weird though, pictures from ajhenderson.com made it to the image search results on Google, but ajhenderson.com isn't in the first page of results for AJ Henderson
@RoryAlsop Do you keep track of who you've spoken to and when, if it was published? I make sure to track all my conference sessions for my CV, but not much of anything else.
excellent! Oh - we have new merch for 2014 - I need to look at sending out some little packs. I'll work out a batch of goodies and see who is interested.
@RoryAlsop Since shifting to Pandora I've not been hearing your guys stuff. There was one of those that I always thought I liked until I heard it again.
Anyone ever encountered an issue on Linux with printers where the drivers are installed and the printer is recognized but stuff isn't coming out of the printer?
@RoryAlsop It's weird, yeah. I'll hear it and remember, "Oh yeah, I don't care for this one." then 5 minutes later will have gone back to thinking that I do.
nah - it's a reminder to the community to write posts for our blog
there is a meta post on it
the regulars tend to be the core bloggers @ton
it's just we have slipped a bit since October-ish
yep
I don't know how to do that :-)
I just chase people to try and get them to draft posts. Then the editor group review and publish
This place holder was invaluable back when we first started, but nowadays the ones who want to write standalone posts do, and the QotW just kind of rolls along
