@DavidFreitag It may be cheating, but it's also awesome.
@TRiG Yeah... I'm very slightly jelly of her beard,

2 hours later…
@DavidFreitag That's one attractive dwarf lady.
@ScottPack Indeed.
01:56
QQ the weekend is already over
@Griffin RHEL/CentOS ftw!
@TerryChia CentOS seems very popular.
CentOS is ugly.
You're ugly.
(before someone says it)
@Simon So's your mom.
AND your face.
@TerryChia There has to be something else too.
01:59
@Simon Having never seen it, I cannot really comment on your wiener.
@TerryChia Now that's the security chat I know.
Let's both be happy that you haven't seen it.
@TerryChia That implies @Simon even has one.
02:16
WIENA
@DavidFreitag Dude, I love Joman
I'm friends with him on Facebook
@GnomeSlice What's Facebook?
@GnomeSlice Weird, i got a reply, but there wasn't any content worth paying attention to.

3 hours later…
05:29
Sorry @gnome - not heard of joman. I've heard of you though. Does he have you on his Facebook?
I'm sending this to all my friends who want to know how cryptography works but don't have the background:
It's really, really simple, and quite accurate.
@tylerl Well, yeah, it's Khan Academy.
@DavidFreitag Well I knew they did good stuff, but this is impressive. Just think of how many questions we get every day that ask how some algorithm works.
just watch the video
and quit asking
You really need to hire someone to deal with your customers for you. Instead of "facepalm, let me dumb this down for you" it would be "hold on, let me transfer you to customer support"

> "We've heard a good bit in this courtroom about public key encryption," said Albright. "Are you familiar with that?

"Yes, I am," said Diffie, in what surely qualified as the biggest understatement of the trial.

"And how is it that you're familiar with public key encryption?"

"I invented it."

Q: Why don’t SMTP servers just require all senders to be authenticated before accepting mail?

ben862000Why don’t SMTP servers just require all senders to be authenticated before accepting mail?

:-)
"because history and laziness" ?
Maybe something about the difference between local and relayed mail as well
Anyway: no time now: I'm due to the gym
history and laziness - yep. That sounds about right
SMTP traditionally supports multiple hops. You can't really secure such a design without the original sender signing the message.

13:04
yay - got my 3rd yearling badge for Sec.SE
it's all about the cheevos
:-)
@RoryAlsop Looks like I'll get mine two weeks from yesterday.
@RoryAlsop Part of the furniture :P?
@Lucas - the comfy chair!
anyone want to flag or vtc this one:

Q: How can I hack a wpa2-psk password using Evil Twin Attack?

user34642I wanna get a step by step guide to hack a wpa2-psk pwd with The Evil Twin method on BT5. If you can help me finding good references, it will be helpful. Thanks

get em in now
13:25
VTC'd
you were the only one - everyone else was too slow to get their votes in :-)
The guy from the OSX question's bio on his blog: "I'm George Ulmer. Matt and I started this blog and launched the Online Investing AI business. Our goal is to develop the technology to allow anyone to retire after working for 10 years.
"
Tsss, amateurs.
@Lucas - that sounds amazing. I want to create improved technology to allow people to retire in 9 years!
@LucasKauffman What the fuck? So, we'd be working from 16 to 26 and then we'd do absolutely nothing?
13:31
why nobody pings me? :(
cuz
I'm kind of nailing this whole flagging thingy. I got 238 helpful flags.
@Simon you're nailing flagging?
@TildalWave Well duh, flags gotta hold somehow.
well in normal countries we just stick them in the ground, but I guess that's a bit tricky on permafrost
@Simon Sounds like your real life.
13:41
@ScottPack wat
I'm not dying, I'm not 26 yet.
Life's probably over at 26, right?
What the fuck is this?

Mr. Pack dropping the F bomb this morning too.
"i have a question?"
Do or do not. There is no flail.
So, does he have a question or or he's wondering if he has a question?
@ScottPack router config and not having a clue what a network is? I wondered what VTC to press too
13:46
Brisk morning. Nearly -30ºC with the wind chill.
@DavidFreitag dafuq?
@TildalWave I hit unclear because I couldn't tell what on earth was going on up in there.
@DavidFreitag you moved to Alaska?
@TildalWave Long story short, windy as fuck.
@DavidFreitag watch what you eat then :P
@ScottPack I don't recall any more what I hit but it did light up the whole alarm board here :)
13:49
I'm a fan of the bitter cold. As long as none of that god damned white hellspawn doesn't fall from the sky only to accumulate.
in air force jargon: the light tree was red
Really one it gets below 35 it's all too fucking cold to go outside.
@DavidFreitag But -30ºC? With wind? That's an effin blizzard in Alaska
@ScottPack It's like 12ºF to 16ºF without the wind. Its nearing on -10ºF with the wind, with gusts that make the outside feel like -17ºF.
@DavidFreitag Sounds terrible.
13:52
The sort of wind that thinks it really knows what direction you ought to be driving.
@ScottPack It really isn't that bad when you consider that, not once, this year have i had to shovel snow.
@DavidFreitag I haven't had to shovel snow yet this year either.
Normally I would say that I probably won't until January, but with the mild summer I have a feeling this winter maybe harsh.
@ScottPack Also, when you consider the time spent outside versus in the nice heat, it also makes perfect sense.
This is our first winter in the house so I'm definitely learning some stuff about it.
For instance, the fireplace seems to leak. I'll need to get something to fix that.
Leak? Heat or smoke?
There's a cold draft coming in through the flue.
I thought the flue was closed up tight, or at least as tight as it would go.
I'll be doing a proper visual inspection.
We haven't had a fire yet.
13:59
Interesting. I don't quite understand the mechanics of a fireplace. Ours is propane.
There are some pretty interesting flue designs but, let it suffice to say, that it's basically a straight pipe to the outside with a damper inside the hotbox.
So you open the damper when you're lighting a fire to let the smoke out, and then close it up when not in use to keep the heat from escaping.
If there's a draft then there's a gap. Either something is preventing it from closing or it just doesn't close well.
Makes sense. I don't think i have ever devoted any time to actively trying to figure out a fire place. I've only ever lived in two houses, both of which either don't have a real fire place or just didn't in the first place.
All of my houses have had them.
The last place we had put in gas logs, so we used it as an NG fireplace but it was still all configured to be a wood burner.
This one is an unconverted wood burner.
Yep, that's essentially what we have, but propane instead of NG
We had put in ventless logs so it was still open, and had a working flue.
14:08
Yeah, I'm not sure about ours. There aren't any levers or controls that are visibly apparent, so I couldn't say.
@ScottPack you don't have those, how are they called, shutters? Apron maybe?
the hearth?
or this:
@TildalWave The flue is the air space that goes from the hotbox to the open air. The metal flap that closes it off is a damper. Often times people just say "shut or open the flue"
The hearth would be the fireplace as a whole.
@ScottPack Oh, well ... I learn :) Anyway, you have anything to "close the darn thing"?
yeah.
I'm pretty sure I have checked it and that it is closed.
I also need to clean out the hotbox as well. Still has some ashes and such from previous owners.
So far we've been using the apron as storage while we unpack and put things away.
@ScottPack I was in one house that had it all bent (heat I guess) and there was loads of ash on the ledge around it too... so I think it'd be best to visually inspect it and see what's going on
14:14
275 instances of:
> //TODO Save in database
@TildalWave Uncontested.
I also like the idea of being able to use it so I would rather not just fill up the hole with insulation.
There do exist covers that fit over the damper to help seal it in. I have no idea how mcuh those cost.
@DavidFreitag My current codebase is littered with something like that. :P Only it's about centralizing configurations in a config file.
I just had that thingy (metal flap) replaced then, but I was lucky I had an expert living next door for stuff like that. He was a chimney builder so he knew exactly what to do, I just brought some brewskies out of the fridge
Nice
Masons are expensive
@TerryChia Yes, but in this case it's strictly an empty event handler for a form action with nothing but that comment and a few lines about what it should do from our specification.
14:19
@ScottPack Tell me about it. I learned to build stuff out of protest LOL
All of which are supposed to be "Implemented changes"
@DavidFreitag 275 instances of that? Wow.
@TerryChia Now you see why i drink myself to sleep at night.
@DavidFreitag isnt that the whole codebase for mongodb...?
@AviD Hehe
14:30
BABY YOU'RE A FIREWORK
14:42
Alright, not many Katy Perry fans in here.
She's the one with the creepy eyes and boobs right?
@Simon That song is stupid.
Fireworks die out in like... 10 seconds.
Just like @Simon
morning
@ScottPack Damn right.
@ScottPack What are you implying, sir?
14:56
@TerryChia Perhaps that's the point.
@ScottPack Is that to say she's the one who has creepy eyes, and also happens to have boobs, or are you saying her boobs are creepy too?
@Iszi Creepy boobs, really? Is that a thing?
@Simon On your grandma, sure. Katy Perry, not so much.
2
You have a point.
15:09
I'm assuming Katy Perry is a current pop sensation on the hit parade?
@RoryAlsop You really, really don't want to know.
Well, she's been popular for a few years now.
but if she has creepy body parts then I'm not bothered to find out
To quote some of her lyrics: "I wanna see your peacock"
oh really? I used to have a girlfriend who had peacocks. They roosted with the chickens. Pretty certain they thought they were chickens!
15:12
Silly peacocks.
I still can't believe that these guys put a goto in a .Net 3.5 C# application. Whoever wrote this function should get their keyboard privileges taken away.
@DavidFreitag But where does it go to?!?
@Simon skip:
That's pro.
@Iszi Really just her eyes. Her boobs don't appear to be anything fantastic, they're just what people keep talking about.
15:17
Grown ups even talk about boobs in a boring way.
just to be clear, those creepy eyes you are now staring at, are not hers, but belong to the Elmo graphic on her shirt.
oooh I like that shirt
the actual SNL clip:
@AviD I dunno if that's something i would want my teenage daughter watching.
15:22
It's SNL. And she watches all the teen stars now, those are worse. This at least is parody.
She watches Miley? Great.
@RoryAlsop should twerk during his next concert. :P
3
@TerryChia I could get behind this.
@AviD You dirty.
idea. I am fully behind that IDEA.
15:29
Yeah, yeah. Dirty old man.
@AviD Doesn't matter, had sex.
@Simon oh, not denying that.
@AviD Hehe
Oh god. Explicitly defined Accessors and Mutators instead of implicit properties... This person should not have been allowed near a .Net app.
KILL THE INFIDEL
15:34
IT'S .NET'S FAULT! THEY DONT SUPPORT MODERN PROGRAMMING TECHNIQUES! NO IMPLICIT PROPERTIES! GOTO IS THE ONLY WAY TO SKIP LINES OF CODE! STUPID mICRO$OFT!
public byte address { get; private set; } is all that is needed, not ten lines of code.
looooooooool
Ahh - Twerk - I think I may not be physically capable of doing that. How odd.
3
@RoryAlsop That's not odd, it's a sign that you are a human. A perfectly sane human.
well, I wouldn't go that far
15:40
@RoryAlsop so get Erik to do it. I'm sure he still can.
heh - he probably can, actually... skinny youngster that he is
Who da hell is Erik?
@Simon that's what we call you, when we dont want you to know we're talking about you.
Awwwww, you guys actually talk about me <3
heh
yes, that's right....Erik
15:56
I hate reporting.
I'll bet Erik probably already knows how to twerk.
Why does everybody know who Erik is except me?
@LucasKauffman I know, right? And you already went through all that effort porting it the first time...
If you're with a group of friends and none of them are Erik, you must be Erik.
Erik sounds like a cool guy.
Is he a nurd?
what do you think? :-p
16:00
Definitely.
@Simon Erik would kick your ass. Unless you happen to be Erik.
@AviD exactly, fortunately that gives me the opportunity to just copy paste findings and adapt the date
@Simon well, he can twerk.
@AviD I think almost every single person in this world kicks @Simon's ass.
@TerryChia I bet @Simon's ass would kick @Simon's ass. After being kicked by @Simon's ass.
4
16:01
Now, I almost did a stupid. I wanted to edited colspan="2" for colspan="1".
@DavidFreitag IIRC, they actually pulled a Sesame Street episode she did.
@Iszi thats what I linked.
@Iszi Good.
I love you, guys.
is this going to be about your ass getting starred?
16:12
Maybe.
note that it was your ass getting kicked that was starred.
Perhaps he likes it that way.
I like it hard.
@DavidFreitag like that guy with the fetish of being punched in the nuts, since at least that way someone is touching him in the nuts?
@AviD Sounds legit i guess. I would rather... well... do just about anything else.
16:15
Some people are desperate.
And others have a box of tissues and some hand lotion.
no, still the desperate people.
Nah, that's not desperate. That's bored with thirty seconds or more to kill.
anybody ever have to review a BPEL-based system?
@AviD No, you linked the SNL skit that ensued.
16:29
ah, I tend to confuse them.
16:46
While we were on Miley and Twerking,
I still maintain the worst part about her shenanigans weren't what she did but how utterly unsuccessful she was at doing it.
@ScottPack I completely agree.
As CH point out, it wasnt really anything new, just more so. It was just badly done and in very poor taste.
It was like a 12 year old discovering urban dictionary for the first time. Just because you can pronounce the words "fuck", "shit", "douchewaffle", and "Jane" doesn't mean it sounds good when your entire sentence is comprised of those words in psuedo-random order.
5
@ScottPack @Simon is a great example of that.
@ScottPack heh, exactly, and very well put!
17:04
We have two launches tonight on Space Exploration, Soyuz/Progress resupply mission to the ISS and maiden SpaceX Falcon 9 with SES8 comms sat to GEO ... we'll have a chat event with links to live streams and all (BYOB) in The Pod Bay. (Schedule is here and you can register for events if you'd like to get the notification via email). The first event starts in about 3 hours ;)
/end spam :)
17:46
@TildalWave Sorry. Gonna be too busy watching Falcon in person.
@ScottPack What's "Jane" got to do with it - unless preceded by "Mary"?
-7 right now. LE WINTER IS COMING
@Simon That's supposed to mean we can turn off our AC for a few days, right? 72F here.
QQ
@Simon It was almost -30 out this morning with the wind chill bro.
@DavidFreitag lies
17:54
@Simon I shicha not.
@DavidFreitag USA is the new Canada.
@Simon It was about -12 without the wind.
le freezy
@Iszi Just another word thrown in for humor purposes.
