@Simon Back in 1608, for his first winter in newly-founded Québec, Samuel Champlain (he was not yet called "de Champlain") wrote in his diary that on October 6th, there was already 2 feet of snow.
We are currently in a semi-warm period of a globally cold climate, with regular ice ages. Began about 3 million years ago. Should still hold some time.
We exited the last ice age about 13000 years ago, and we should get a new one no later than 15000 years from now -- but possibly much sooner, especially if we keep one producing CO2
