15:00
I don't have a baseball, mitt, or bat. Sorry, mate.
Just like my real dad: lame excuses. Pfft.
Daddy Scott Pack, can we test for vulnerabilities the new Web Application I've programmed after dinner?
@Simon At least you have a dad.
@LucasKauffman Awkward
@ton.yeung Ah, no. My wife was in Dallas last week. That sounded terrible.
@Simon That sounds awfully close to programming. Funk that.
Daddy Scott Pack is so boring.
15:06
right time for me to pack my things and stand in traffic
So we take something terrible and make it worse. Awesome!
Haha
Afternoon kids!
Hola
@RoryAlsop Afternoon, old man
15:11
I am always amused when I login and there are x00 lines in the transcript I need to catch up on. Well, I say amused... When I am mobile on an iPad I go back a bit but it's a chore:-)
@RoryAlsop watcha' Yoda
@RoryAlsop grep [^Simon]
@RoryAlsop Hey sweetness.
Do we have audits on our review system?
@Adnan Let's analyze the command: grep: search text. ^ would refer as a regular expression statement. Now, the part that changes the definition of the command: brackets. ARE YOU SAYING THAT IT IS OPTIONAL TO READ WHAT I POSTED?
Now that's creepy. I've typed Disney land in here like twice and now I'm getting Disney World ads on youtube.
15:27
@Simon that shouldn't be possible...
I know, it still happened though and it's the first time that I get Disney ads on YT.
Old man/Yoda/[simon]Sweetness - interesting response
@Simon Read everything except what Simon said.
@Adnan :(
15:31
I dislike how regex uses the ^ to both anchor the beginning of line and also negate.
@ScottPack I dislike RegEx
To be fair I didn't say anything clever today.
@Adnan All sites have audits on /review
@Simon Do you? Ever?
@Adnan Philistine.
15:32
@Adnan It took you like 3 weeks to figure out who I am.
@ThomasPornin Toupee.
@ScottPack Never spotted any here
That regex actually means anything that isn't an S or an i or an m or an o or an n. You want grep -v Simon.
@Ladadadada Perfect!
15:33
@RoryAlsop Do you really need to catch up on all the infernal chatter ?
@ThomasPornin They must be into....
Industrial Metal
God! That was awful!
I should stop doing that
@RoryAlsop we assigning Star Wars characters to members of the DMZ, with the obvious outcome :)
And you say that I don't say anything clever... :)
@Simon Logical fallacies everywhere...
@ScottPack What do they audit for?
15:37
@rorym - pfffft
@thomas - nope . Not at all :-)
Don't metaltech industries make those awful military vehicles?
@RoryAlsop nono you need to reverse things round to get it more yoday-y like tffffffp
Pfffft this is. Called out on grammar, I am not.
ARE YOU SERIOUS? "What the HTML is that?" get out of here commercial with a bad pun.
@RoryAlsop Oh no! Out of everyone you also have to be laughing at our military? :(
Hahahahahahahahaha. I just want one @simon
Painted orange
With a flamethrower on the roof
And lasers
@Simon Not me, I love the Canadian army (Forces)
@Simon Recently I shot a modified version of the C14 rifle. Lots of fun
15:42
@Adnan I still haven't shot a gun. I'd like to one day.
Is Canadia like the UK in that respect - no guns?
@RoryAlsop I saw their name on a scaffold a few days ago.
There was a sign saying metalltechgesellschaftwirtsprufung ( or something ) on a scaffold in Munich last year
@RoryAlsop Yes, except for hunting and police, of course.
...so is the guy who built my car stereo @ton and the best thing is... He is a mad scientist
15:45
@RoryAlsop It is called "Canada". Cops here have guns. But they don't go into Far West mode very often because, let's face it, Canadian cops not only cops, they are also Canadian.
@Xander Whether or not you made the "correct" decision. They're trying to prevent people from badge farming by hammering the buttons.
@thomas - I know- was being silly...joke fell flat, ah :-(
@ThomasPornin So they apologize for any trouble they've caused by drawing their firearms then asking if it's ok for them to release the safety?
@ScottPack What happens if you don't? Do they have a way to individually take away access to the queues? Or do you just get a nasty-gram?
canados, canador, canas tirith, candania, canashire, canathoth
15:48
@Xander Whenever you make your action the screen changes to say either, "Hey you passed! Good on you." or "You stupid son of a bitch. Try again asshole."
@ScottPack LOL>
I was just browsing the admin pages. Turns out I am the Death of Comments! Heh
But both @AviD and I have created the same number of comments...
Stats - ain't they interesting?

Q: How to Use Fiddler tool for security testing

user1581991I am aware that we can use Fiddler to intercept and tamper HTTP requests and responses. Can one of you please explain or guide me to the procedures for doing this Thanks, Sashi

Scott Pack made a second account to ask how to use Fiddler.
3
@RoryAlsop Yup. Stats are awesome.
@xander - well, most of them are... :-)
16:03
I had a feeling my answer to that one would get deleted.. I couldn't help myself :) I won't do it again
@PsudeoReality No worries. We're all tempted to do the same from time to time. ;-)
16:25
You know you've loaded far too much data from the DB when Google Chrome's scroll bar is gone.
@Psudeo - yeah. Sometimes it is the correct answer, but to a newbie it comes across as snarky
Anyone ever had a client which requested that you hand over all of the custom scripts used including the intelectual rights on them
Had some request scripts written specifically for them, yes, but EY was always good at protecting the Intellectual Property rights on their core scripts.
16:41
good idea
@RoryAlsop yea I know, that's why I found it a bit weird
worst case I just make them BSD licensed
@ton.yeung It's literally a script :P
I just came across a config entry where something is set to the IP 127.0.1.1, when is that used for anything? I only have one loopback interface at the usual ip...
@ton.yeung thats my point...
That's odd
Im pretty sure thats just...an invalid IP
16:50
it's valid it goes to the loopback interface
aha, its a bug workaround, that makes more sense
open a command prompt and ping it
@PsudeoReality my loopback reports inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 does that mean 127.*.*.* hits the loopback?
this is news to me, and im a sysadmin :/
@lynks I think so, I know I used to configure 127.1.1.1 as well for localhost apps
@lynks I don't think so
@lynks yeah
@lynks open a command prompt right now and ping 127.0.1.1
16:55
@ton.yeung you can if you like, just maybe run a duplicate farm on a load balancer first :P
or 127.anything
@PsudeoReality yep, works
Loopback Addresses
Normally, when a TCP/IP application wants to send information, that information travels down the protocol layers to IP where it is encapsulated in an IP datagram. That datagram then passes down to the data link layer of the device's physical network for transmission to the next hop, on the way to the IP destination.

However, one special range of addresses is set aside for loopback functionality. This is the range 127.0.0.0 to 127.255.255.255. IP datagrams sent by a host to a 127.x.x.x loopback address are not passed down to the data link layer for transmission. Instead,
Haha
16:56
@ton.yeung have you configured that IP on an interface
nvm <,<
@LucasKauffman trololo
@Xander The guy died not so long ago, don't make me cry :(
@Simon Yeah, I remember. :-(
Ice cream truck ... So tempting
17:05
@LucasKauffman Those aren't only in movies?
@Simon No, they're also in places that are warmer than Canada.
You don't have ice cream trucks in Canada ?
@Xander That would make sense.
@LucasKauffman As far as I know, nope. At least not in my province.
17:06
Manis is a mod there
@LucasKauffman They have poutine trucks instead.
2
What's poutine?
LOL
@LucasKauffman French fries with gravy and cheese curds.
I shouldn't say this but I had poutine for lunch.
17:08
I can feel my veins clog up just by reading that
@LucasKauffman If only you knew how good it is, if only.
It sounds good I would love it even
But I'm on a diet!
You're too young to be on a diet.
That's what EY does with you, the food is too damn good :(
@ton.yeung ey.com
@ton.yeung we are a big four company
EY (formerly Ernst & Young) is one of the largest professional service firms in the world and one of the "Big Four" accounting firms, along with Deloitte, KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). EY is a global organization of member firms with 167,000 employees in more than 140 countries, and has 700+ office locations. EY is headquartered in London, England. It was ranked by Forbes magazine as the eighth-largest private company in the United States in 2011. History Early history EY is the result of a series of mergers of ancestor organizations. The oldest originating partnership was ...
@ton.yeung We call ourselves EY these days
because all cool kids do it these days
@ton.yeung what xD?
WHY IS EVERYONE MEAN TO CANADIA TODAY, EH?
It's not like if we are USA's hat.
@ton.yeung Apparently, Vancouver is Canada's Asia.
17:20
@ton.yeung I lived in the Vancouver area for a couple of years when I was young.
It was nice.
@ton.yeung Oh, I see. I'd like to see what it's like too.
But it's damn far, I'm on the opposite part of Canaduh.
Yeah (drop the k)
I find french canadians funny
funny accent
Thanks Lucas.
@ton.yeung Don't worry, even those who speak French as their main language usually suck at it too.
@ton.yeung people from texas have funny accents :P
@Simon need music to go for a run, recommend me some hardstyle!
@LucasKauffman If you can download something, I'd dl the Wasted Penguinz mix on YT.
You can't go wrong with their melodies.
However, if you want something harder, I'd go with a Gunz for Hire mix.
Download Ran-D's set, he's one of the dudes of G4H.
That set is pretty hard.
You can download it from the link I've posted.
17:28
@Simon nice
will take that one
The last tracks of that mix are insane.
Ran-D - Never Scared is definitely one the best Rawstyle track.
17:39
@Simon That's intense.
@Xander Are you laughing at me or legitimately listened to the track?
@Simon No, I'm legitimately listening.
@Xander Wow, I like you. A lot. Are you into many kind of music?
@Simon I have a very eclectic taste in music. But yes, I like this a lot.
@Xander you are supposed to dance on it like this:
17:45
in b4 melb shuffle link
:D
well it is the "bouncing titties" version :D
this is the classic one
@LucasKauffman Ha, no, that's not happening.
@Xander Sweet! The Hardstyle parties are simply amazing.
@LucasKauffman The headliner finally got released for the rave in my province: DJ Stephanie will be the HS DJ.
She's pretty decent.
17:48
nice
she played on the Qontinent as well no?
Possibly. She often plays at big parties.
Oh yeah, didn't I tell you this already?
LOL
yea ><
@Simon I want to see DayMar live once
Haha. 'Cause I remember saying she's a good looking lady and then you told me this thing about Korsakoff.
@Simon ah yes :D
Oh, Hardcore. Somehow, I like Rawstyle, which is a hardcore-ish version of HS but slower BPM. However, I like only a few Hardcore tracks.
17:51
anyway of for a run
see y'all later
Enjoy
18:14
This revision is golden: "Minor Grammer improvements". Oh the irony.
@Simon What's wrong? Kelsey Grammer can't improve posts here? :P
Haha :P
@PsudeoReality That's not a cameltoe! That's a space station!
@Iszi Did you just Well Actually my comment calling you out for Well Actualing?
@ScottPack Why yes, yes I did.

Q: Tor and regular browser side by side. Does that make sense?

AndreasCan I use a Tor browser session and a regular Firefox session side by side without corrupting the security of the Tor session? E.g. when I download a new Eclipse version or when I'm searching for code snippets I think the NSA won't find out more than if I'm a mediocre programmer or not. But for...

The dude's question is legit but I don't see why he'd want to do that anyway.
@Adnan He's the thing. That's someones pet. You might as well of shot one of their children. I would kill hundreds of people before I killed a dog.
@Simon On first glance, I'd say it's because he wants to isolate his anonymized browsing from non-anonymized browsing.
@Iszi I guess that could be it. Why not go anonymous all the way though?
If you're not a terrorist you don't have anything to hide. Obviously.
@Simon There are some web interactions which are inherently non-anonymous anyway, and anonymizing your traffic with Tor carries a certain amount of performance overhead.
18:41
@Simon Because browsing through Tor is a rather painful experience.
@Iszi Meh, yeah, I guess it is slightly slower.
Web browsing through Tor is kind of like Hodor riding a bicycle naked. The mechanism really chews some things up.
Hehe
@LucasKauffman Did you post this answer while running?
@Simon No just got back
was a nice mix
Glad you liked it.
18:45
all the paranoid people
"I'M USING TOR, THE NSA WILL NEVER FIND ME!!!"
Remove your last line, he's gonna be paranoid even more.
@lucas - your tagline no longer includes quality? Standards slipping?
Awwwww man I just realized now that I spelled Pseudo wrong lol
@RoryAlsop Of course not! We still deliver quality, but now it's gotten so good that it makes the world a better working place!
Toothpaste smile and wink
I can't change it for 30 days lol
I will play that video every day for 30 days
18:48
BTW, on an extreme note, if you have Java/Flash enabled on the browse that isn't using Tor, couldn't they retrieve some information about your Tor browser?
yes
with javascript I believe it's possible for them to get your real ip address
I mean related to this question though: security.stackexchange.com/questions/38316/…
flash I'm not sure but I know they can get access to the machine
@RoryAlsop nah I'm not sure why they changed it, I preferred the previous tagline and name tbh
Damn, I meant to read it like a week ago. I'll try to remember when I get home.
18:55
ah also promotion for me YEEEEY
@LucasKauffman Congrats. Where's my booze/
@ScottPack It's here in my fridge, come get it big boy.
@ThomasPornin Is poutine the main reason why you moved to Québec?
@Simon It could be a powerful reason to make me move out of Québec.
18:59
@ThomasPornin Hahaha
Try to add some Ketchup, it's even better.
The Québec city area is about the best zone in North America with regards to food quality, but for a Frenchman it still is a kind of Hell.
Really? It's that bad compared to France?
@Simon If your idea of fine dining is gravy on top of french fries, then yes :P
@PsudeoReality hahahahahaha
Haha, of course I'm kidding when I say that poutine is the best thing ever but I'm not sophisticated at all when it comes to food.
19:03
@LucasKauffman That sounds pretty epic.
@LucasKauffman congrats - it will be beer time at some undetermined point in the future when our paths cross
@LucasKauffman Check this shit out.
A Hot Brown Sandwich is a hot sandwich originally created at the Brown Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky, by Fred K. Schmidt in 1926. It is a variation of traditional Welsh rarebit and was one of two signature sandwiches created by chefs at the Brown Hotel shortly after its founding in 1923. It was created to serve as an alternative to ham and egg late-night suppers. Ingredients The Hot Brown is an open-faced sandwich of turkey and bacon, covered in Mornay sauce and baked or broiled until the bread is crisp and the sauce begins to brown. Many Hot Browns also include ham with the turkey, and ...
@RoryAlsop definetely
@LucasKauffman So what's up with this fancy new promotion?
Oh, gz on the promotion!
19:04
Likewise @Scott - whisky and beer, whenever you guys get to Scotland
@RoryAlsop You'll be the first person I let know. No matter what we do I'm sure Edinburgh will be involved. Flights in if nothing else.
@ScottPack had a good review at the round tables apparently, my review was based on my daily work because of the new service we developed which took off very well (threat intelligence reporting). So I get to call myself Assistant II now :D
@ScottPack I want to eat that.
@ScottPack reminds me of this:
@LucasKauffman Don't forget the rule of three :)
@Simon which one?
19:09
@LucasKauffman Hot Brown is damn good stuff. It'll kill you, but damn tasty comfort food. What's that mound 'o' sauce?
@LucasKauffman AKA things always happen in threes :D
@ScottPack It's the leg of a pig where they make ham from. It's covered in a mixture of honey and sweet mustard
@Simon so I will get two other good thing happening to me soon :O?
@LucasKauffman Nono, you're Assistant II now, which means that you'll be Assistant III eventually!
@Simon nope :P my next level is senior I
@LucasKauffman There goes my logic.
19:12
@LucasKauffman according to the photo name that's lamb?
@TildalWave It says Jambon au miel meaning Ham with honey :P
Look at you with your amazing French skills.
@LucasKauffman oh yes sorry ... hmmm, never had that
@Simon Omellette du fromage
@LucasKauffman au fromage
19:14
@Simon nope :P
wait
Dude, it's my first language.
:P
Omelette au fromage
It's from there :P
@LucasKauffman LOL
Language of love yet he said it wrong!
Silly girls.
19:15
@Simon It's my second language
now I'm hungry damn you!
@LucasKauffman Are you fluent?
@Simon yea
Noice
In Belgium you have to be
19:17
I'm forgetting all my french
used to be decent around 10 years ago
@CodesInChaos I have it with my German
@LucasKauffman I thought only some parts of it were French.
I can point at things in any language :P
@TildalWave That would be only 1 language: signs.
:)
@Simon which sign language? Afaik there are multiple of those.
19:19
@Simon 40% is french, 50 % flemish and 10% is german
@Simon you would think so, but funny enough sign language isn't really international
the German part is because we took it after the war
@TildalWave @CodesInChaos There goes my logic again.
@CodesInChaos you're German right?
19:21
yes
Which means he's the guy who did that AMA about being a botnet owner on reddit.
@Simon I actually do that sometimes for my weirder questions
@LucasKauffman Ask Me Anything
@CodesInChaos you're a botnet owner?
19:23
@LucasKauffman Haha
Well it wouldn't surprise me :p
@CodesInChaos You create an account with the name "Scott Pack" ?
@LucasKauffman Yes. With a grand total of two computers :)
@CodesInChaos you dirty hacker!
@ThomasPornin He'll get more upboats if he uses "Thomas Pornin"
Plus it'll stand the chance of getting banned for being vulgar.
19:25
@CodesInChaos On the same network I bet? ^^
@Simon No ATM. But they have the same wannabe admin
@TildalWave: technically, a good hash function h has probability about 63.2% of actually having a fixed point v, i.e. a value v such that h(v) = v. We do expect, however, that it is not feasible to demonstrate the existence or inexistence of such a fixed point for any particular hash function, let alone compute it. (If we can compute the fixed point, then the function is definitely not a random oracle, which does not mathematically imply that it is broken as a hash function, but is still bad news in practice.) — Tom Leek 4 hours ago
Dare I ask where does that percentage come from? Or it's a long story?
Auto-update is a bit frightening. So easy to produce a bot net from an installation base
@TildalWave 1-1/e
@CodesInChaos bloody hell, you are on a pocket calculator diet? :)
@CodesInChaos They all seem to be coded in C++. How about you make it challenging and code one in a language like C# or VB?
19:29
each point has probability 1/2^n of being a fix point
you combine that by multiplying the inverses, i.e. 1-(1-1/2^n)^(2^n) which is approximately 1-1/e
Obviously. Sarcasm implied
@CodesInChaos So it is true, you eat pocket calculators for breakfast, don't you?
lim n->inf of (1+a/n)^n = exp(a) is a really famous formula
19:34
@LucasKauffman Hahaha, who made it?
Awesome
@CodesInChaos well it rings some bells and I understand what you're saying, which is frightening enough on its own :)
@TildalWave 63.2% is 1-1/e, and that's a value which comes up quite often when doing that kind of computation. You learn to recognize it.
alright time for a shower and going to see despicable me II
see you guys tomorrow :)
19:35
See ya
@ThomasPornin There goes my cover... and I was so good at pretending I dig crypto (NOT!) :))
btw I've came across Matthew Green's blog yesterday ... that should have me covered for the next few months reading ... and a few decades understanding it :)
yeah, his blog is nice
I like his writing style, everything comes out so fluently I end up wondering how in hell did I understand that
@LucasKauffman Woah
19:57
@LucasKauffman So, you're saying @ThomasPornin makes little girls pee their pants? That's horrible!
