@RoryAlsop Right. Now I realize where I first saw the (original) full name (and thus assumed it was still being touted): prominently in my browser address bar as the name for their Extended Validation Cert. But I can't easily copy/paste that.....

I really hope this post doesn't get any more action. There's some good answers there, but someone seems determined to turn it into a discussion/debate thread.

Q: Why do some people really hate security via client-side?

user488For instance, lets look at a common login system for a website HTTPS connection is made User submits credentials via POST Server-side code hashes the password and looks if it matches the user name Session is initialized, and a key may be issued to log in again without passwords ("remember me") ...

Holy crap - this got accepted? I was seriously expecting it to get dropped to a comment or something.

A: How can one audit for usage of IIS Express?

IsziShort and easy answer: The same way you audit and detect installation of any other software. You do do this, don't you?

Well, there's a "correct" answer and a "useful" answer.
Yours is most definitely the former....
13:03
@ScottPack Thanks. And howdy.

Morning Sunshine

@ScottPack (And anyone else that cares to give input.) I'm trying to get some rates to compare against, here. What should one charge as an hourly rate, for on-demand IT support to an org with 5-10 users, one server, and SOHO networking? Is there a place I can got to find out what the "pros" charge?
5 *bill*ion dollars.
@ScottPack Why are you kissing your pinky?
15:11
that's interesting
for a small company....
why does the small 5-10 user company need pro-grade support? haah
is their product/services something that has odd technical demands?
It's a hard line, really. We've had some chats about that in here previously.
If you're too cheap, then little-to-no value gets associated with your services, if you're too expensive then the small shops like that can't afford you.
well, if the small shop is doing some new software development, then they need to get someone that can deal with application and process security, and that'll be a higher cost... and they should expect such
and i agree, scott, there's not easy answer
usually, in small orgs like that the IT work is done by someone that they know... the techie down the street
or one of them
@Ormis It's mostly just keeping the desktops and server running, troubleshooting OS/app issues, etc.
So basic SB IT work.
Yeah. By "pros" I meant companies that actually offer that type of support.
I don't know if it's quite fair to compare the service to Geek Squad.
15:27
So I guess you mean real established companies. Not somebody that offers those services as a side job?
@ScottPack I'm curious as to both, but "real, established companies" are much easier to present and have accepted for comparison than "Joe IT Guy down the road from my house".
in that case, get some college kid there part-time working for like $10/hr
Uncontested. Though, to be fair, when I'm bringing up Joe IT Guy, I'm thinking of people that are actually good and probably do something very similar as their "day job".
@ScottPack Right, but the point still is that ACME SMB doesn't have a real easy way to verify that, as compared to larger, perhaps more recognizable, corporate entity with an online business presence.
@Iszi Hence why I'm not disagreeing. :)
15:40
Got some responses from a few "Joe IT Guys" I know. Suggesting $70-100/hr (one as high as $125) for strictly on-demand pricing, or as low as $50/hr if the client buys a monthly package.
In your region?
Yeah
That will be the other big thing.
In this area, 30-50/hr would be normal SB pricing. You could probably get up to 100/hr in bigger, well-to-do places.
@ScottPack That's about how much I charge for home service. Still beats the pants off of most alternatives (i.e.: Geek Squad).
How much does Geek Squad charge?
15:51
@ScottPack Most of their services are $99+. But, I think that may be a flat fee - not that most of those should take more than an hour anyway.
Install Windows Vista from my RTM disc? That's like a 6 hour process (largely unattended)
Yeah, I'm not sure what the full-rebuild price is.
"Data Recovery" services are "From $249"
And that's not a house call.
And I think that's just recovery - not actual re-build.
Software installs are $50 per software package.
16:10
Do any of your companies use a mobile device management system? meaning smartphone/handheld/tablet management tools?
@Ormis We don't manage ours, but we're subject to one.
is it just exchange policy, or is it actually a management app?
See, that I don't know 'cause we don't handle it...
sorry, haha
'sallright
16:13
our new project will give us the ability to have an in-house app store
pretty interesting stuff
i should say that it will potentially give us the ability to have one.... we're still in research/trial phases
16:25
being able to blacklist angrybirds would give me some sort of dark pleasure
That would be kind of like blacklisting sol.exe. Might be fun, until the calls start
Anyone recognize a program named Ibario?
