Q: Name of the lion vahana of Maa Kamakhya or Maa Durga

dasWhat is the name of the lion vahana of Maa Kamakhya or Maa Durga? I have heard the name of the vahana is Mahasingha or Dawon, but is there any scriptural reference that gives the accurate name of the vahana. I know that Somanandin is the name of the tiger as per Puranas which is a Devi gana or Sh...

@RubelliteYakṣī Yeah we had celebrated like every other year. Tied Rakhi, Had delicious food, spent time with family etc. But we didn't have holiday, so had to go to office too. 🙄
@Carmensandiego @অনু Do you guys know this channel by name: "Sabloktantra". The guy, who was running this channel, is a good critic and had exposed Bollywood movies multiple times in his videos. However his two YouTube handles got deleted.
His analysis was like eye opening to me.
His analysis showed like how Bollywood tried their best to brainwash Indians and degraded Dharma with malicious intent.
@Hinduismbot Good question 👍
I think Devi bhagwat purana should have it mentioned.

Q: Is experience of Self/Atma not a mystical experience as per Traditional Advaita Vedanta? If so how can it be experienced?

Sethu Srivatsa KoduruFor Padmapāda, as for Shankara: "The ascertainment of the essential Self is not so much a matter of a 'mystical' experience occurring in time, BUT, as a matter of enquiry consisting of the careful and concentrated introspection of and reflection upon one's ordinary experience." (Comans, p. 213) ...

My Beloved ! Who for selfish reasons kill animals in an unlawful manner , lives in hell for as many days as there are hairs on the body of the animal killed; and on his death that wicked person is reborn in the animal form.

@TheLittleNaruto In principle, I have never sought out knowledge about religious matters from Youtube because the vast majority of channels who discuss religious matters on Youtube happen to be run by paltry people, whose credentials aren't above doubt. I will always prefer books over unsubstantiated sermons & uncited verses quoted by random blogs. So I can't help you regarding identification of Youtube evangelists.
Secondly, why should we assume that the Indian media hads taken an oath to portray Hindu affairs as minutely accurate as possible ? Even Baahubali 2 has some errors if we analyse the scriptures.
1stly, the scene of Bahubali's coronation had very little resemblance with the Hindu rite of coronation, whose basics are given in the Agnipurana & espoused in detail in the Atharvaveda Parisista.
2ndly, the scene of Bahubali pouring his blood over the Shivalinga is also inaccurate. Scriptures like the Shantikamalakara (a treatise on shantikarma composed by Kamalakara Bhatta, the author of Nirṇayasindhu) state that spilling blood outside the context of rituals within temple-premises is an act of sacrilege, & the shrine were it occurs must undergo ritual purification & reconsecration.
Even in Bahubali 1, the scene where Bahubali uproots the stone Shivalinga, is considered as an act of desecration by the scriptures because uprooting a duly consecrated Shivalinga from it's pedestal is an act of sacrilege.
And not to mention the scene where Bahubali engages in pre-marital sex with Avantika.

Q: Is Monotheism explicitly discussed and established in Rig Veda?

Hari KumarWe have the famous saying "Ekam Sadvipra Bahudha Vadanti" from Rig Veda which is clearly speaking about Monotheism. But are the characteristics of one Supreme God established in the Rig Veda? The main characteristics are Omnipotence Omnipresence Omniscience Omnibenevolence Creator (Should be the...

Q: Please determine the language

ajitdas hal This maybe the back of a Jain tirthankar idol. What language are the words?

But you won't find people fussing over these scriptural nitty-witty violations, which proves their ignorance. When the audience itself is ignorant about the scriptures, should we expect our mediapersons to be accurate ? The lack of a centralised authority in Hinduism has made it possible for a certain class of people to twist scriptural facts in order to gain audience views. And not only in cinema, this thing is also seen in television soaps .
Even the scene of BR Chopra's Mahabharata which implies that Draupadi was saved from being disrobed because she used a fragment of her cloth to bandage Krishna's injured palm is inaccurate. Shiva Purana states that Draupadi got an unending supply of clothes during her attempted disrobing because in her childhood, she had donated a single cloth to rsi Durvasa for making his kaupina, thereby highlighting the greatness of charity.

Q: Why is curd an exception to Tamasic food even though it is fermented?

AdiyarkkuFoods are categorised into sattva, rajas and tamas based on their nature. As is stated here, tamas foods are: Food cooked more than three hours before being eaten, which is tasteless, stale, putrid, decomposed and unclean, is food liked by people in the mode of ignorance. Basically certain spoi...

@অনু Even I thought same when I saw that scene.
@অনু correct!
@অনু Does Shiva Purana mention that story? I am still at Rudra Samhita, and have started Yuddha khanda.
@Hinduismbot @Adiyarkku Good question. My wife and I were talking about it a few days ago. Thanks for posting..

Q: Dharmashastra and certain types of alcoholic beverages

AdiyarkkuAmong the 5 greatest sins, is the drinking of Surā or alcohol. Basically, Tamasic foods are not recommended which include, fermented items such as alcohol.
