@ChinmaySarupria Hello.

@sv. Hi :)
@sv. We don't even have much left of what happened 7000 years ago, Sri Rama was born in that period. All we have is Ram Setu and some foot marks of Hanuman, now if Ramayana happened 2 million years ago, then we won't even see the foot marks of Hanuman.

sv.
@ChinmaySarupria "Do you think people of Satya Yuga were inferior to people of today in intelligence?" -- no, I don't think so.

@sv. Well researchers have calculated Sri Rama's birth date as 5114 BC

sv.
@ChinmaySarupria No, I'm not saying Ramayana happened 1 million years ago. See my comment here.
@ChinmaySarupria I'm try to fit Yuga theory, dharma, intelligence with the reality which is Humans are still evolving .. It's a one way path .. Evolution is never cyclical ..
@ChinmaySarupria Even if I agree with you on the Yuga cycle (shorter) .. Not sure I agree with you that people's intelligence will degrade.

@sv. But where was evolution before 1699, there were just wars, attacks on kingdoms and that's all was left.
@sv. Evolution suddenly came into play after 1699 when important discoveries were made, people like Newton, Einstein and other giants were born.

sv.
5:16 AM
@ChinmaySarupria My prediction is that in next 100-200 yrs, there will be mass famine, shortage of food and 1-child policy will be adopted across the globe :)

@sv. Swami Vivekananda said in the next few hundred years, China will sweep Europe.

sv.
@ChinmaySarupria It doesn't matter how and when evolution theory is discovered. yes, people are becoming more intelligent, so what's wrong in 'discovering' evolution theory in 1699?
@ChinmaySarupria Yes, we already see in Hollywood movies featuring a couple of Indians and Chinese always. To make everyone aware there is no way around it :)

@sv. Yeah but people now are better than people living in the last 2000 years or so and people of Satya Yuga were intelligent than both us and the people of last 2000 years.

sv.
@ChinmaySarupria I tend to think that what you can achieve thru yoga and what you achieve practically thru intelligence are 2 different things.

@sv. But not everyone was yogi in Satya Yuga.

sv.
5:20 AM
@ChinmaySarupria If people in Satya yuga were so intelligent, why didn't they leave any traces of their existence .. what intelligent creation did they leave behind?
@ChinmaySarupria Why no such things exist in Satya yuga?

@sv. Intelligence doesn't always mean materialism. I think a thing like Hot Air Balloon existed in Satya Yuga, there is a book(forgot its name) that mentioned about balloon and dry cell batteries that existed before.

sv.
@ChinmaySarupria No intelligent creation means, they were less intelligent than us.

@sv. People of that time were sattvic in nature so my guess is they didn't find any need to indulge in these stuff.

sv.
@ChinmaySarupria I wouldn't call hot-air balloon a path-breaking invention, by mere chance also one can invent it. Just like the "wheel"

@sv. True, those 4 images I put were not revolutionary but other things that happened after 1699 are.

sv.
5:24 AM
@ChinmaySarupria "Intelligence doesn't always mean materialism." -- I disagree. Intelligence always shows itself on the outside.
@ChinmaySarupria Intelligent bacteria shows itself by becoming more and more resistant to antibiotics.

@sv. Wasn't Swami Vivekananda more intelligent and yet did nothing materialistic. IMO, as people become more and more intelligent, they will become spiritual because they will be in a position to realise that it is the only way.

sv.
@ChinmaySarupria Something like an electric bulb is a true invention .. it changed the whole world.
@ChinmaySarupria Now a brahmastra is not really an invention even if such a thing really existed, in the Satya yuga. It is simply launched using yoga and mantra.
@ChinmaySarupria Vivekananda is an exception. Only 0.01% persons are after the supreme truth, question their existence and such. But the rest 99.99% persons are intelligent as you say, back in Satya yuga too, they should have created pathbreaking inventions like the electric bulb. Don't you think?

@sv. People in Satya Yuga might have created electric bulb, who knows? After all, it is not possible to find remains of electric bulb of Satya Yuga.

sv.
@ChinmaySarupria So what I think is 5000 or 10000 yrs from now. People will become more & more intelligent only - 1-way only. I can't tell if it's going to be a better society, but intelligence will constantly rise.
@ChinmaySarupria If people are able to find dinosaur fossils, pre-historic human remains, why not a jumbo jet from satya-yuga :)
@ChinmaySarupria So I agree with your 24,000 yuga cycle .. that doesn't necessarily mean human intelligence will go up .. then down ..

@sv. Okay let me first research and find more information about dinosaurs and people of Satya Yuga, there is a video of a yogi who said Dinosaurs were first vegetarians.

sv.
5:40 AM
@ChinmaySarupria Ok, good chatting with you. I'm in US, getting late here. We'll continue tomorrow after your research ;-)

@sv. See you later :)

@sv. Regarding your comment about evolution
I watched this BBC documentary in which they do a gene identification experiment on many people from different parts of the world and conclude that some core genes common to all those can be traced back to Africa. They were saying about 70,000 years ago the first humans spread from Africa to Asia and rest of the world. Given that I'm not sure how Ramayana could have happened 1.6 million years ago. — sv. yesterday
I think theory of evolution is not totally correct. They say sentient beings were born from insentient atoms which is impossible. Even great scientists can't explain satisfactorily how this is possible.
@sv. You may find my views a bit wierd but this is what i think.
I think People of Bharatavasha are descendants of Surya and Chandra like how Rama was born in Surya vamsam and Krishna was born in Chandra Vamsam.
@sv. @ChinmaySarupria i think we should Yuga based on Guna of people rather than intellegence alone. In Satya Yuga, Intelligence was eco friendly unlike in Kali Yuga where intelligence pollutes nature.
@ChinmaySarupria @sv. These inventions are polluting nature and most of the people are inventing new things only to satisfy their sensual pleasures.
@sv. May be some people of Africa were evolved from Apes.

3:38 PM
@TheDestroyer "These inventions are polluting nature and most of the people are inventing new things only to satisfy their sensual pleasures" That's what I said to @sv. , people are interested in materialism and when they become truly intelligent, they are least concerned about inventions of today. Just look at all the yogis, they take diseases of multiple people on themselves and never cure them, even though they can do it if they want but they don't care about their bodies.

@TheDestroyer "These inventions are polluting nature" -- Ha Ha, using the same inventions like Internet to participate here on Hinduism.SE? :P
@TheDestroyer "They say sentient beings were born from insentient atoms which is impossible." - who said so?

@sv. Haha.. Internet does have bad things too.. :P

sv.
@TheDestroyer "May be some people of Africa were evolved from Apes." - not some, all existing population!!! including the Surya-vamsi's and Chandra-vamsi's can be traced back to Africa, fortunately or unfortunately.

@sv. Theory of evolution says so. First sentient being is formed from insentient atoms.

sv.
@TheDestroyer When NASA pointed their instruments to planetary nebulae, they can see organic molecules in space, so that is how life formed. I don't think Earth is unique.

@sv. Ok. How organic molecules can move on their own?

sv.
5:46 PM
@TheDestroyer So I don't feel proud to have born in Bharatavarsha...If you feel, I've no issues :)

@sv. Haha.. Actually location of Bharatavarsha is ambiguous.

sv.
@TheDestroyer Then don't blame the inventions!

@sv. I'm not blaming. I'm just saying Kali Yuga has bad effects too..
@sv. How can i use technology by blaming it? I will be called as hypocrite if i do that. :P

sv.
@TheDestroyer Can you point me to the document or book which says "First sentient being is formed from insentient atoms."
@TheDestroyer There is research going on to create life out of organic compounds!

@sv. Ok. Just tell me how first being formed from primordial soup was able to move on it's own.

sv.
5:53 PM
@TheDestroyer Like I said, it's being researched.

@sv. ohh ok.

sv.
@TheDestroyer Simple answer is: Leela .. LOL :P

@sv. i don't give much importance to this science. They rely heavily on sense organs to verify the facts. Indriyas< Mind< Brahman. By expanding consciousness alone, we can find anything useful.
@sv. not leela. Atman

sv.
@TheDestroyer Sure, Leela of Supreme Brahman.
@TheDestroyer science has a purpose. question ur existence .. question ur desires .. spirituality is also a science.
@TheDestroyer Although I cannot explain to myself, how could some organisms continue to live at depths of 10000 ft below in ocean and not know anything about Sun light, yet we Humans at surface continue to think Sun is the source of all energy and so vital to life.
@TheDestroyer "By expanding consciousness alone, we can find anything useful." -- why those who have expanded their consciousness still cannot explain few simple things? Is Earth alone? Is Earth a mere coincidence in history of space-time or has a specific purpose?

@BhargavRao Have you read this blog post? What do you think? First time users seem to be bogged down with all the rules and are getting demotivated with their very 1st Qn.

@BhargavRao Yeah, the few Q's I asked, I tried to be careful not to upset the experts and other high-rep users with my stupid Q's :P
@BhargavRao Yes, remember reading it. Ironically, "closed as primarily opinion-based" .. LOL

Yep :D

@BhargavRao Have you heard of this Kannada vedantin who wrote his own version of the Gita?

Are you talking bout the Srimadbagawadgetaatatparya?

sv.
@BhargavRao No. Trying to recollect his name.

@sv. That's the name of the book
DV Gundappa is the author

sv.
@BhargavRao Dr. D. V. Gundappa's "Mankutimmana Kagga"

7:48 PM
Srimad BhagavadGeeta Tatparya is a modern exposition of the meaning and significance of the Bhagavadgita (1967) by D. V. Gundappa. It received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1967. The very process of its composition is significant, D. V. Gundappa expounded his interpretation over a year and a half to his listeners at a study circle and students made notes; later, the notes were revised and rewritten. This gives the work clarity and flavour of the spoken word and doubts and question reckoned with. The primary purpose of the author is to bring out the relevance of the Gita to the common man even in...

sv.
Ok. When you said it 1st time, it looked like some generic name.
Mankuthimmana Kagga, written by Dr. D. V. Gundappa (known by the name D V G) and published in 1943, is one of the best known of the major literary works in Kannada. It is widely regarded as a masterpiece of Kannada literature and is referred to as the Bhagavad Gita in Kannada. The title of this work can be translated as "Dull Thimma's Rigmarole". Kagga is a collection of 945 poems, each being four lines in length. Some of these poems are written in old Kannada style (halegannada). Kagga poems are profound as well as poetic. Most of them can be sung. Though the author calls it an 'a foggy fools...
"It is widely regarded as a masterpiece of Kannada literature and is referred to as the Bhagavad Gita in Kannada."

Yep, True.
It won him the Sahitya Akademi Award

sv.
So, I'm guessing he put the collective wisdom from all his readings/works in to "Mankuthimmana Kagga"

Yep.
