Want to discuss about Literal Meaning Vs. Interpretation
According to Ramanujacharya, Upanishads are required to interpret correctly right?
Many verses from Upanishads e.g consider Mahavakyas. Their literal meaning leads to Advaita. But Vishishtadvaitis and Dvaitis interpret them in order to fit/lead to their philosophies. Right?
So, which one do you recommend? i.e Literal Meaning or Interpretation?
In other words, Should we emphasis/insist on Literal Meaning or Interpretation?
@KeshavSrinivasan The another important topic I've said before want to discuss is this.

@Pandya Well, here's how Visistadvaitins think of things. There are some statements in the Upanishads called Bheda Shruti whose plain meaning seem to suggest that Jivatma and Paramatma are totally separate. And there are other statements in the Upanishads called Abheda Shruti whose plain meaning suggest that that Jivatma and Paramatma are the same. The question is how does one reconcile these two apparent "literal meanings"?
@Pandya How Advaitins handle this is by saying that Bheda Shruti is only true from the relative perspective, and that from the absolute perspective only Abheda Shruti is true.
@Pandya Visistadvaita, on the other hand, says that all the statements of the Upanishads are true, and that even though their surface meanings might appear to differ, their true meanings are in complete agreement. In Visistadvaita, the way to reconcile so called Bheda Shruti and Abheda Shruti is through the use of Ghataka Shruti, i.e. statements in the Upanishads which say that the Jivatma and Paramatma have a body-soul relationship.
@Pandya In the Visistadvaita view, Bheda Shruti, Abheda Shruti, and Ghataka Shruti are all actually saying the same thing, namely that Jivatma and Paramatma have a body-soul relationship. It's only their prima facie meanings that seem to differ.
@Pandya But to be clear, Visistadvaita does not say that the Upanishads should be interpreted metaphorically or symbolically. The issue isn't metaphorical meaning vs. literal meaning. The issue is apparent meaning vs. true meaning.
