@forest more the idea of what ethnicity someone is is dependant on the person defining it

The same way I get confused by asian meaning folks from china, Japan, Korea etc. I would be likely indian or confused for a middle easterner to someone in the west, and we refer to all white people as Caucasian officially.

re parties: yes, I would definitely encourage going to one or two, but as forest says, physical security is ... interesting. My first visit to defcon, back nearly 20 years ago I went to a party, and took a general crowd picture (as I didn't know better)...

And my camera, phone and wallet went missing a few minutes later. I did get them back the following morning - nothing missing from them, except two photographs. So I probably came off lightly. My only challenge being that I had cancelled my credit card and phone, so that was a PITA.

@RoryAlsop To be fair, most people are going to be wearing masks this year so concern about revealing appearance will be less of an issue. I can see what you're getting at though; Vegas isn't exactly safe in normal conditions and DEFCON is another beast
