A: How is Tor secure despite being open source?

g3kThe simple answer is that it isn't. Anyone can operate a TOR exit node and it can easily be used to MiTM your traffic. TOR isn't meant to secure your transactions, TOR is meant to protect your identity, which is still not always 100% reliable. If your host is compromised (which it is still the sa...

"It's open source which makes it less secure!"
"I'm paranoid, so I don't use insecure things like that!"
What a terrible answer...

@TomK. sure, but "that's how it's generally done" and "that's what my company does, not sure if it's same everywhere" is diferent
@forest thing is, if you are paranoid, would you really use a program made by DARPA?

7:06 AM
@forest yeah. I hate being in these smart homes... I always feel like I'm monitored all the time. I always expect an amazon delivery when I come if I said something like "I like this food as well!" in a conversation

when I come home*

not only amazon can know everything about you, but also your neighboor, as IOT and security seems to be two diferent concept
"HAHA, that's funny, this website is full of hacked cameras... OH CRAP THAT MY DAUGHTER BEDROOM"

@Kepotx well - paranoia can be specific :-)

@Kepotx Well, DARPA invented the computer mouse, but they had no involvement with Tor :P
It was actually the Navy which came up with the concept of onion routing (merely the idea of routing through multiple servers with each server peeling off a layer of encryption), and then Roger Dingledine and one other dude who came up with the Tor software.
Which is not owned or developed by the Navy (it is owned by Tor Project).
@Kepotx It is made by the government in the same way the computer mouse is (i.e. the idea first came from them, but what you are using now has nothing to do with them).
