I've seen people so drunk out of their minds, they will watch a wild horse walk up to them, take a gigantic crap on the front of the store, in front of them, and they'll just stare at the crap for minutes, then ignore it
@silverpenguin More accurate is probably that prominent and governing members of one side want to retain their independence from an occupying force, while said force just wants to keep those folks happy enough to not be a real bother.

To get off the rez, first you need enough money to move somewhere else... as far away as possible. Fortunately, education really helps with that... but if you're in an area where nobody is hiring, even for really in-demand skills, you're still in trouble.
I really don't know enough about reservations to even make sense of why they need to have separate governments. I wouldn't be surprised if, examined objectively, there was actually very little that they absolutely needed to deviate from the broader American standards. But again, I really know nothing.
@MarkBuffalo Then maybe that's the most critical bit. That shifting from the current (as you said) communist economic model into a capitalist one would be too disruptive for the majority to be able to survive.
@silverpenguin sadly untrue. No one is equal. The Internet has a habit of exacerbating differences and allowing a platform for aggression and bullying.
