Q: Unable to remove a trojan that affects IE

Aaron KreiderI'm unable to remove a Trojan from my computer (and also that of a colleague). I think it came from a compromised Drupal website which had 5 malicious PHP scripts (now removed). I have run several anti-virus scans on my computer (Panda, AVG, Malware Bytes, HijackThis, and RKill), emptied my IE...

can we get this moved to superuser instead?
@MarkBuffalo it'll get closed as a dupe
Wooo 17°C and thunderstorming with 29km/h sustained winds and 80km/h gusts.
@DavidFreitag Sounds like fun? Stay safe and dry.
03:51
@Micheal Oh the torrential downpours stopped not too long ago
I hope you are sending them to California. We need the rain. :(
Somehow I don't think so
One could hope.
04:19
I really hope the power doesn't go out
04:57
@DavidFreitag Thundersnow is fun :o
@MarkBuffalo last I checked it didn't snow when it was 17°C out...
Wait, 17c? I thought you said -17c
That caught me off guard
@MarkBuffalo pls, its march, not january
05:42
@LucasKauffman Picked this up at the airport. :)
I so can't wait to get out of this apartment
Morning all - had a minus 4 drive to the airport this morning. Standard February weather :-)
Not even very skiddy
Mildly disappointed
@TerryChia nice
@RoryAlsop It's 15°C and violently thunderstorming
05:59
That would make for a more exciting flight, but no, here I have crystal clear skies, mildly icy, smooth. Think I'll sleep.
06:09
@TerryChia nice
KABOOOOOOOOM
Transformer just blew up
sparks flying everywhere
06:36
@TerryChia Not sure if chocolate, pocky, cigarettes, or alcohol
@DavidFreitag Hate it when that happens. We used to have squirrels that doubled as super mutant suiciders. They'd run up the pole, chew on the power lines and get their shit ruined something fierce
You could see the fried squirrel corpses next to the transformers
@MarkBuffalo Clearly says whisky
@MarkBuffalo It's raining 1"/4s
120km/h gusts
and my back door keeps blowing open because it's a flaming piece of crap
Dang
So you'll be moving to the new apartment soon?
We're actually about to buy a house near my work place
That's great, man.
My job here is turning out really nice, and it's a career-style place to work
07:29
security.stackexchange.com/questions/115694/…. Asks about mobile, but then asks about Windows net send ... Uhm.
happens
/me shrugs
Awwww, no /me? :'(
Nope :(
We've been betrayed by SE devs
07:47
I feel like I should yell out Kahhhhhhhhhnnnn.
lol
I'm pretty sure I have a userscript that does that
Maybe an addon
test
All it does is wrap what comes after /me inside italics tho

A: Fishy: VMware sends all traffic through akamai

user57189deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com is a known site for distro of malware it will get cleaned up periodically and go back to having malware.

???
08:29
hello
Howdy.
agrees
probably one of the SE Chat script
Morning
bonjour
08:36
I can't believe how cold it is
I thought we were on our way to summer
it's possible some of that has been implemented in chat already
And Bonjour @kalina
@kalina yay! you're talking to me again!
@kalina I want snow!
pls I need double figure temperatures not this 8 degrees stuff
@kalina and you call 8 degree cold? ARgh
08:37
8 degrees is cold
I was definitely designed to laze around on the beach all day
which is probably why I like bed so much
I need coffee
Grrrr. It's past midnight. Annoying how time keeps moving forward like that.
@Micheal when you start a game of civilization 5 at 8pm and then suddenly it's 4am and you're still thinking "just... one more turn"
I did that for the OSCP. "Just one more box ..." "Oooh, it's 4AM, I have to go to work in a couple of hours."
I'm just going to listen to this track a couple more times... oh it's 3am suddenly and I have the entire track in pieces performing a major rewrite
well I can't stop now, I won't remember what I was doing in the morning and will have to roll back!
.oO( 8am )
I need to get out of the habit of impulse buying games
lastnight I was browsing through steam and obviously it's steam so of course they've got a sale on
Wait, there's a steam sale right now?
brb.
08:50
Midweek Madness ?
I don't remember if it was the midweek madness or a random game they've got on offer
since Steam always has a sale on
the worst of it is I have so many steam games I'm not sure which one it was I bought
you can always check your library
usually they don't let you buy it twice
though I might have to version of Deus Ex I think
no but I have like 500 games
of which at least 25% of them I don't even remember buying
it's ok I checked my email
so the game I bought was called Invisible, Inc
which is like a stylized isometric stealth game
hm. Remmebers me I never finished "Stealth Bastard"
When did Amazon change the layout for books' product pages? Ugh that is painful.
09:05
@M'vy I completed Remember Me though
which was a weird game that had more potential than it actually realized
@kalina That's what I fear when I saw the pitch
the problem was is the people who made it obviously had no ambition
they put a bunch of cool toys in the game and then used them... never
like memory remixing
and the ability to rewind
and then padded out the rest of the game with meh third person beat 'em up gameplay
I though that was the all point of the game?
and then... quicktime events boss fights
Mornin' all
09:09
no
comfy bed time, not morning
@kalina :op soz morning is calling, like the first morning.
I felt so bad lastnight, I knocked my surface off the bed and it bounced
and then I looked at it, realized it was the one with the broken kickstand and then didn't care
@kalina aww poor damaged surface
this scenario should never happen but apparently I'm able to bend the laws of space and starfishing takes up the entire bed
I see the surface book seems to be available in the UK now.
09:12
either that or orange is the new black bored me into trying new things
hmmm...
@RоryMcCune meh
@kalina I didn't realise the surface book had become "meh", turned over for some new shininess?
@RоryMcCune well all of my excitement was spent unboxing two sp4s which happened ages ago
I'm not going to get excited over "basically the same thing again"
looking at the surface book reviews it looks like they've still got all the same problems as the sp4s
the battery usage on these is shocking
they're such a let down for "tablet use"
they're really a let down for "pc use"
and they need to learn how to go to sleep
Yesterday we talked about the "==" "===" operators and some kind of exploit (?) in PHP, was there a related question of that? I forgot
euh
09:49
PHP has this annoying thing about comparisons. "asdf' === "asdf" is true, but "asdf" == "asdf" can be false. :/ The PHP docs explain it better than I can at 2AM: php.net/manual/en/language.operators.comparison.php
oh no can we avoid that discussion again
that discussion was so boring
yeah, I agree. We did talk about it
writers block is such a mindfuck
10:05
Whatcha writing?
nothing at the moment
I'm just pushing half baked subpar ideas around on the screen
@kalina I'd heard MS had finally fixed that problem in the last firmware release...
@RоryMcCune is that so, is that like how they fixed it in the firmware version before that one?
or the one before that one?
@RоryMcCune Have they fixed the problem with Windows 10 where your Start menu doesn't open because something has become corrupt following a windows update?
and if that's the case maybe we could answer this question...
my other SP4 has not been used since my last performance, which was the weekend before last
10:10
@Matthew heh, not sure about that one
at that point it had 75% charge and was put into sleep
after 3 hours the device is supposed to hibernate
if the device was hibernated then it would use a grand total of 0% battery
yet it was dead flat yesterday and required charging for several minutes before it would even power up
@RоryMcCune I wasn't impressed with that. Thankfully, I keep most of the important things in my dock!
@Matthew haven't seen this issue
also the more I use Windows 10 on the surface the more I dislike it
the issue doesn't exist on desktop
@kalina It's common enough that there are articles on how to fix it lying around. This seems to be a fairly important flaw though...
but on the surface it's so really obvious when you drop through the windows 10 UI into the windows 2000 UI
like control panel for example
because it's not designed for touch at all
10:13
@kalina That sounds like when my tablet goes into hibernate, then wakes itself up to perform updates, leaves the screen on when it does them, then dies...
@Matthew oh performing updates murders it
but I am sympathetic enough to what it's doing to accept it
since obviously before you get to the desktop you have no power management and the cpu is also running at 100% with no speedstep
@kalina I'd probably mind less if it didn't pick the night before I'm travelling to do this. I've got into the habit of turning it off completely after charging it when I know I'm going to want it the next day. Charging it also turns it back on...
@Matthew well yes, it always seems to be flat when I want to use it
I don't mind the auto restart much
although I do mind that it doesn't care what's open when it decides to restart
I had to break my habit of leaving stuff open to resume it tomorrow
because intermittently I'll arrive back at an empty desktop of a PC that just finished windows updates
nothing more disheartening to the creative process than losing work
@kalina My main bugbear with Windows Update is that it always does it when I'm trying to go home
well that's because you don't let it automatically reboot itself in the middle of the night
10:24
@kalina Laptop. It's off in the middle of the night, sitting in a nice warm bag, usually
I never turn anything off
@kalina @Adi says otherwise :P
computers, lights, even the cooker at times
too absent minded
aww man and she doesnt even see my comments, that was gold
somebody tell her that line!
I did go into my home office the other day to find it boiling - I'd forgotten to turn off the radiator
I prefer it to be boiling
I hate the cold so much
@AviD pls get a sock puppet
@RоryMcCune I have you
if he uses a sockpuppet to circumvent my ignore I will make a formal complaint to team@se
@kalina There is a difference between comfortably warm and houseplants wilting...
10:27
hahaha
@AviD yeah not doing it :op
since that crosses the line of harassment, I don't want to speak to him or see what he says
@kalina I dont need a sockpuppet, I can just modabuse anybody and modedit any comment to a secret message to @kalina
@RоryMcCune cmon! just say it!
it was a good joke!
makes sense I find it annoying when I have to see convo's relating to people who I've got on ignore
@Matthew oh I have no houseplants, I never worked out the right amount of love to give a plant for it to not die
10:28
@kalina Nor have I, but I keep trying
although I don't think any of my ignore targets has been on here in aages
@kalina All the leaves fell off one I have in my office. I think I watered it too much
I thought plants liked water
@RоryMcCune if I mattered enough for him to be bothered enough to try and circumvent my ignore, maybe he shouldn't have annoyed me sufficiently to get back to that state again?
anyway, I'm not discussing it, choices were made, repercussions occur
@Matthew I know, who would have thought
and sunlight
apparently watering them with direct sunlight on them is murder as well
@kalina Apparently, they object to sitting in a puddle. And to not being watered. And to being given alternate flood/drought seasons
@kalina forgive him, for he knows not what he does.
10:41
@Matthew cactii that's what you need
@RоryMcCune I have a couple of dragon trees, which are supposed to be practically indestructable
do they breathe fire
And an orchid, which does surprisingly well - it handles my drought/flood waterring methods well
@kalina Sadly not...
well it's not a very good dragon then
@kalina I did complain about this to my wife
11:14
you too can sit here all day listening to your lead riff played back at half speed and go EUUUUUUUUUUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I DON'T WANNA
@kalina Get them to syncopate the hook and reverse the polarity of the neutron flow. Bound to help

@Matthew I... what?

Q: designing secure DMZ using 2 firewalls and DMZ switches

Ashley VincentRead your article on DMZ design and would like to have your serious opinion on my current implementation. We are in the process of completing the network infrastructure for our new College Campus and on cross roads with the contractors. We have 2 redundant Firewalls - one for the Perimeter level...

@Lighty They seem optimistic...
@Matthew OH YOU!
tricking me into reviewing all outstanding reviews on sec.se
11:22
@kalina It's saving you from a half speed lead riff nightmare
I'm installing Debian on a VM... Fun...
I have the best use-case test in the world
I have to test an app for dead people
@Lighty Zombie dating?
@Matthew Fingerprints!
@Lighty I don't think anyone has tried matching people based on their fingerprints, but it might work, I suppose...
most scanners don't pick up cold fingerprints
so we have a special add-on for an iPhone with lightning plugs (that new connection?)
and its mainly for identification
but also to send to these companies, that use it on Urns, Necklaces etc.
But I get to go to the morgue once a week to use it on actual dead people...
11:28
smells rotten
Yeah, that doesn't sound like a fun job...
@Matthew Dead people don't complain all the time
I took a note, sawtooth wave, right off this pantomime four, ran it back here, re-jammed it through itself, looped it back, mixed it with the sound of this crab committing suicide, and let it stew in its own reverb for about three hours, right? And then I pump it all out through this shoe, to give it that oaky timbre.
so Its fun
@kalina then you reversed the polarity of the neutron flow and opened up the Gravitron interface?
11:31
@kalina I think you should aim for a more cedar-y timbre. Gives it a more modern, Scandinavian vibe
I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways, we could reverse the particle flow through the gate. We'll... cross the streams...
@kalina And what about the sample? Is it pure enough?
@kalina NOOOOOOO!!!!! NEVER CROSS THE STREAMS!!!!!!
@Matthew unless you want your vibe to stay puft
@Matthew had a bad experience in a public restroom?
11:37
I tested my own fingerprints on said "ded-ppl-app"
A burn mark from a lighter
Ca. 3 years ago
@Lighty Did it give you access to your coffin?
@Matthew What do you mean? xd
the scar on my finger makes alot of biometric systems no-as-usable (also noting it is on my hand I dont use for biometrics), and is safely used as a show-model of the new system xd
@Lighty thanks for sharing your fingerprint on the internet
my oneplustwo keeps hanging
I'm not impressed with the experience
@kalina the line right about your message explains why its not a problem
xd
@Lighty that changes nothing
NOTHING CHANGED
also tut tut smokers
11:47
@kalina tut tut smokers?
yes tut tut smokers
cigarettes are bad for you
and makes you taste like an ash tray
And you made that comment because...?
I burned myself on a Lighter?
no it was just a general health warning

@kalina Who doesn't?
yay for learning css
now ignored users are removed from the list entirely
I don't even have to see that they've said anything!
also makes it impossible to unignore them from within this page
