@Simon While bcrypt is older than scrypt, scrypt allows you to set the amount of space in memory that it will use while bcrypt does not. Also, see this — Sakamaki Izayoi1 min ago
But there is no proof or even any clue about bitcoins aggregating more often than through pure uniform distribution; where as there are known geological process that result in especially rich gold seams.
@etherealflux ... and this is not a hash function, since it does not offer a fixed-size output for a variable size input.
My point is that gold diggers have at least some rationality in their process: they rely on hitting a rare but actually real event; while bitcoin miners want to become rich through finding out a "rich seam" which is, as far as we know, completely mythical.
There was a botnet owner on reddit who did an AMA and he mentioned at one point that he would install/update GPU drivers on his victims' PC to get better results at mining.
"Hey, you suck at configuring your PC so here, I'll install your drivers, jeeze"
I should write a kernel patch such that, when /dev/random blocks because "it has no entropy", the kernel does some bitcoin mining instead of just waiting for the entropy to appear.
Also, if I did have a botnet, I would at least have the common courtesy to allow people to search a database of mac addresses to see if they are infected
I want to write a bash shell script to process text, which might require while loop.
For example, a while loop in c:
int done = 0;
while(1) {
...
if(done) break;
}
I want to write a bash shell script equivalent to that. But what I usually used and as all the classic examples I read have show...
@etherealflux It isn't that easy, I have to put in a requisition for parts, then if that gets approved, I need to submit an entry to purchasing, and eventually, six months later, I will get my ram.
There are memes common to whole Stack Exchange. But after spending some time in The DMZ it becomes evident that Information Security has it's own memes (e.g. rory).
I therefore propose that this space be used to document the memes endemic to Information Security's culture.
One meme per answer p...
I really enjoy building computers for people. If you give me a price range I'll meet it.
@Simon If the canadians are being dicks and newegg has higher prices (ie a different exchange rate that the actual exchange from ust -> cad) then you can order in usd on a vpn with paypal and have it shipped to me.
Which in the end will work out since I am between you and Newegg.
The site in question is called fbi.yt. This is a website that hosts hacked databases containing people's personally identifiable information on them. This information includes physical addresses, phone numbers and much more. The person/s that host and staff the site are the same people that hoste...
@schroeder I say close it. There's no question in there that's a fit for the site. If he fixes it, it'll go in the re-open queue, but I think there's a pretty slim chance that'll happen.
@Xander the cool thing is that I did some research into the site, and I know the owner's contact info.... The doxer got doxed. So, "what can be done" is slightly illegal ....
