Let me make my logic here. You can't use a phone held in hand. You can't have any device on your ears that produces sound (except medical ones). So if I plug my phone in my AUXilliary channel, and put it on the passenger seat, I should be using it in a legal manner :)
Or I would need a prescription and buy bluetooth medical earpieces :)
@M'vy This begs the question...How can they tell? If you're using your car's integrated Bluetooth so the sound comes through the speakers rather than an earpiece, or even your phone's speakerphone feature, how would they ever be able to prove that you were on the phone?
@Xander More often than not it's a secondary offense. Meaning they normally don't pull you over for it, but if you get pulled over for speeding AND you're not using handsfree in a legal manor they can add to the fine.
@Iszi In the U.S., it's still legal to hold your phone to your head in most states. Last time I checked anyway, there were only a handful of states that actually prohibited any kind of cell phone use.
My home directory contains the files "why", "why2", "pls", "plsgrep", and "hacker" (as well as a "hack" directory). I think it's time to re-evaluate my life
@Xander Interesting. This list has 14 states, plus Guam, Puerto Rico, and D.C., where cell phones are banned. However, none are noted to restrict cell phone use to hands-free only.
Regulatory laws in the United States have placed numerous restrictions on cell phone use by drivers. Individual States have jurisdictional discretion over the use of cell phones and other handheld devices used by drivers on their roads. Many of the resultant laws target novice drivers, while others focus on the use of handsfree devices. The enforcement of the regulations vary widely in degree from state to state, from significant to none; from primary to secondary violations.

The laws regulating driving (or distracted driving) may be subject to primary enforcement or secondary...
Ruby is like a rich, inattentive parent. It buys you cool stuff and lets you get away with things other parents wouldn't, but it also doesn't care if you start trying to stick a fork in an outlet.
@Amelia hey ruby is a very nice language, either for small stuff where it doesn't get too complex or with a robust TDD/BDD approach to make up for it's challenges :)
well unlike the other day when I was the only non-blue in the room, it looks like we have only one person who's ascended to mod-hood here at the moment
@Simon "en route" is one of the few french sayings that are used quite frequently here in the US. Although if you ask anyone where it comes from or what it means, you usually get answered, "Uhhh is it greek?"
@Simon It's a joke, most people have no idea chemistry even exists, let alone the fact that dihydrogen monoxide is actually water. So when you call it by it's actual name people who have no idea go, "Oh, hmm, that does sound dangerous!"
@Simon During my public speaking class, I did a speech on dihydrogen monoxide, and how it kills millions per year. After class half of the people I gave the speech to were like, "Ohmygawd how do I donate to your cause?!"
